Thomas and the Mavian Scandal - Film Cast Auditions
Project Overview
Hello, I'm Inkwright and I welcome you all to the Thomas and the Mavian Scandal Audition Page! I hope you find it warm and cozy here and will find interest in visiting the Island of Sodor for a feature-length adventure.
GOALS WITH PROJECT
First off, I want to say that the goal of this film is to make a non-profit fan project that I can insert my full creative potential into. This original Thomas story features a plot and characters solely formulated from my mind. I feel like the current state of the franchise's reputation has been dire and I hope that this film can take the correct steps towards uniting the fandom to enjoy quality content. As such, this film retains the classic tone and character personalities that will be familiar to many of you who grew up with the lovely show that Britt Allcroft and David Mitton once envisioned.
I should also state that this film is currently planned as an Internet exclusive. My main goal is to get it onto YouTube so the general public can see the full project. While I visioned this at a theatrical scale, I figured it's better to start small and the script has turned out to be fine enough that a wide crowd can still enjoy it. Plus, after how Magic Railroad performed, shooting for the big screen doesn't seem ideal to me as of now.
PREMISE OF PROJECT
The movie follows the story of Johnny and Frawly, two old friends who resided on the Island of Mavia. The threat of scrap loomed over them until the Fat Controller, Sir Topham Hatt, purchased them and they were transported over to Sodor by ship. Johnny managed to learn his way around and became close friends with Thomas, the tank engine we all know and love, and Cassidy, the young lady filling in for Sir Topham Hatt while he's on holiday.
Frawly, however, wasn't so lucky. The only ones who will talk to him are the clumsy diesel twins, Splatter and Dodge, and this was how Frawly conversed a past incident involving him and Johnny that put him in both trauma and near death. Frawly plans to get revenge on Johnny and put him on an assembly line to incinerate his parts. It's up to Johnny and Thomas to team up with their friends and end Frawly's wrath.
The story follows a multilayered plotline, featuring dark undertones, classic personalities of the characters you know, a human subplot that remains connected to Johnny and Thomas, and carefully paced action sequences. Dialogue and action take center stage in this original Thomas adventure crafted by both a newcomer and experienced mind to the fandom.
While the writing may catch your attention, I visioned it coming to life more than the page. And to do that, that's where you come in...
HOW TO AUDITION
The steps to auditioning for the Mavian Scandal cast are very basic, so I'll go through them quickly.
Rules:
- Go through the list of characters and decide what one(s) you want to go for. You can go for as many as you want, but be warned that I'm only selecting a maximum of three roles per person (still dependent on your skill in the individual auditions).
- Click "Submit Audition" for the character(s) you're going for.
- Record yourself saying the line(s) I provided. With your preferred software, save the file offline (please export it as an MP3 or WAV file).
- Import the audio by clicking "Browse audition files" and click "Submit Audition."
- PLEASE post in the Mavian Scandal thread on SIF with your username and role(s) you auditioned for.
- You will be notified at some point after April 1st through Casting Call Club and Sodor Island Forums if you were picked for a role.
Recommendations:
- Stay close to the tone and type of voice I'm looking for.
- Only submit through this audition page.
- NO IMPROVISATION! Say the audition lines exactly how they're written.
- Say your lines as you would in the film - they're pulled straight from the final script.
- You don't have to love Thomas to do an audition. Just go for it and have fun!
- Leave a comment on SIF or this audition page if you have any questions.
Auditions will close on April 1st at the earliest. I may extend the date depending on if all the roles have auditions from people or not. I suggest filling up the spots as quickly as you can! At some point in April, I'll notify the people who were selected for the cast what to do from there.
Also, I'm reaching out personally with some friends and SIF users on whether or not they want to take part, so if roles get removed or switched around on the audition page, that might be why. I'm voicing Johnny and Frawly since they're my OCs for the flick.
That's all I have to say. Good luck with auditioning for a chance to help Johnny and Thomas bring down the Mavian Scandal!

Some casting has been completed!
Here are the roles that I'm closing today: Thomas - thomasfandomfan (as he's referred to over on SIF) Cassidy - My friend Violet Gordon - My friend Zin Splodge - Both from my friend Zin Annie and Clarabel - Vanna Montana Cranky - My friend Mason While other roles have auditions submitted for them, I'm gonna sit with a friend and figure out the rest of the voices before the deadline. So those that are still open, go for them! Three more days, everybody! I can't wait to get this film on the right track! (pun intended)
He sounds young and mature but can be quite fired up sometimes. My only priority for his voice is a teenage, British tone.
Pleased to meet you! My name’s Thomas. And yours is Johnny, I believe?
Sorry, Edward! I’ve got a red bus to beat!
She is filling in for Sir Topham Hatt while he's on holiday. Cassidy has had it rough and is doing her best to manage the timetables and engines around the Northwestern Railway. Make Cass sound like a sweetheart, stern but thoughtful, and infectiously funny.
I may not have a home, but I still have my dignity.
I’m proud to be helping on the Northwestern Railway.Hey, you’re going to be alright. I’ll be here for you. If you ever need anything…well, just ask.
Starting out as a troublemaker, he develops a relationship with Cassidy and proves himself a reliable ally during her time as a temporary controller. Give him a rough edge to his voice. Make him sound clever-minded, caring, and contagiously silly.
Man, who knew this railway’s controller would make a mess of things. Oh, right, I
forgot. Someone else is filling in for the actual controller…Wow. She’s a looker, isn’t she?
With his top-link position of pulling the Express, he sees himself as grand. Go for a very articulate and huffy tone.
Says the teeny tank engine who pulls a duo of slow coaches down his branch line.
Oh, you ought to know! We’re always healthy and strong to our core!
James solely cares about his shiny paint, but can still be quite an ally to his fellow engines. Give him a deep, loud voice.
Driver’s promised me a new coat of paint this afternoon.
Don’t judge the writers. They don’t need to change my lines. I’m too important for
that.
Like Thomas, he is young and mature but isn't afraid to get a bit feisty. Make him sound high-pitched, although refrain from sounding intentionally annoying.
Henry! I nearly blew my dome off! You’ve gotta keep your boiler in one piece!
Whirlybird. I can’t believe I raced him once.
One of two oblivious diesel twins that got sucked into Frawly's scheme. Give him a slightly high pitch and weird intonation to match his fellow brother. Unique to Splatter, also give him a clueless, oblivious tone to his dialogue.
Word in the yard is there’s a new traction engine ‘round the quarry.
Don’t you mean impression? Now, who’s the one that memorized American
history?
One of two oblivious diesel twins that got sucked into Frawly's scheme. Give him a slightly high pitch and weird intonation to match his fellow brother. Unique to Dodge, also give him an intelligent, snappy tone so that he always seems annoyed by Splatter.
Word in the yard? Since when did you socialize?
Shuddup, dunce. Splodge is fine.
He is one of the most victorious of the fleet but can get stuffed up in his boiler. As such, Henry can be quite rude and snappy at times. However, his love for the forest and relentless efforts to assist his fellow engines keep him laid back. A gruff and stern voice for him works best.
Bless me! I’m coming down, aren’t-(sniffs)-I?
Rubbish! It’s rubbish that Johnny-(sniffs)-of all engines-(sniffs)-already has some of
those smaller engines keeping him company.
With his wise strength and contagious behavior, he's proved himself as strong as he ever was and everyone respects him. All he needs is a voice that's wise, quaint, and very much on the bright side of life.
Well, I first inquired about where he came
from, and all Johnny could say was that he came from an island unlike ours.
He's full of wisdom and care in his interactions with the other engines but isn't afraid to be an agent of chaos. Give him an old but strong-hearted voice.
From what I can tell, they’re wired to his wheels to act as generators. That’s how they
worked on his old island, and that’s how they’ll work here.
They love trying to get the engines off the line. Make them loud and intolerable so they seem like a force to be reckoned with.
We’re showing ol’ John who’s boss!
Thomas's two faithful coaches love to talk with him as he's traveling down his branch line. Make them sound sweet and soothing.
There’s no time for a race. We need to rest from a day’s work.
He's stuck at the docks to work all day and all night, making him very restless. Give him the most, well...cranky voice possible!
Johnny? Wow, as if this island needed more variety in its naming policies.
Read the line any way you'd like, this is a backup spot if I like your auditions but don't pick you for the bigger part of the cast. Roles for this category include: Johnny's Driver, Harold, Bertie, Mavis, Signalman, and others if needed.
Everyone on the Island of Sodor wants to stay responsible, reliable, and really
useful for the Fat Controller, also known as Sir Topham Hatt. Things were going well for several
years…
