The Wheels of Lull (Skyrim Mod) (Casting Call 2)

The Wheels of Lull (Skyrim Mod) (Casting Call 2)

Project Overview

INTRODUCTION

Hi, folks! This is the second casting call with another round of roles for our project to remaster the voices of the popular DLC-sized Skyrim Mod The Wheels of Lull. This is a large quest mod with a rich story that explores a side of lore not frequently featured in The Elder Scrolls titles and mods. Created by Trainwiz for Skyrim Legendary Edition back in 2014, maintenance has been taken over by a group of modders looking to do whatever we can to perfect the already fantastic mod. It was a difficult decision for us to redo the voice acting for some of the characters, but after evaluating the raw audio and finding many irreparable quality flaws, we have decided to proceed with this change while offering users the option to use the old voice acting (the default will be the new VA). We have already completed the implementation of new voices for four characters, and the results are fantastic.

With this being a hobbyist project, we are unable to pay our voice actors - but we will do all we can to raise your profile :)

All roles are in English with varying accents and genders - please see individual roles for more details.

PLOT SUMMARY

"The Digitals say we come from another star, but so many have forgotten. I have not, for my lineage granted me audience with Memory, and I have spoken with the Wheels of Lull. I have seen proof, as any who come Up during Landfall Season, when the winds die down enough Above that all may make pilgrimage under the banner of Vehk and Vehk. Though many Above have renounced Memory, they too remember."

Far, far below Nirn, past the lava flows and the still-mining machines of the dwarves, lies the great Clockwork City of Sotha Sil. Two centuries ago, an individual stepped through its nonexistent gates, forever changing it and its residents. From his actions came the Chronographers, the fabricant time-keepers, and watchers of the world. Since those two centuries, they have lived in the great voidyards and helipads of their ruined city, silently guarding the world from danger.

But now, deep beneath the Throat of the World, in the most destitute of their outposts, something dangerous is stirring, and the rejected and broken Chronographers of Lull-Mor find that they have no choice but to seek outside help, and once again bring a mortal hero into the depths of the Clockwork City, to stop a mad mystic and his army of twisted experiments from unmaking the very foundations of the world! So once again, descend into the Expanse of Sotha Sil, and once again, turn the Wheels of Lull.

The Wheels of Lull is an enormous, sprawling expansion sized quest mod that serves not just only as a sequel to Sotha Sil Expanded, but ties together almost all my previous Skyrim quest mods, including Aethernautics, Mzark, and even Brhuce Hammar.  In it, the player is recruited into the ranks of a rejected Chronographer platoon and shunted off to the Clockwork City outpost of Lull-Mor, a precariously perched outpost at the edge of Sotha Sil's domain.

Much like Sotha Sil Expanded, the mod gives a focus on puzzles and problem-solving. Featuring five enormous dungeons, with mini-bosses, unique treasures, and plenty of puzzles, you'll have your work cut out for you. The player will find themselves exploring strange new landscapes, from the deepest oceans to underground forests, to giant foundries, and going up against strange new monsters, while wielding several new weapons, from the Harquebuses of Chronographers to the great Unwinder of Goveri. They will find themselves dressing in Chronographer robes. WoL also serves as an introduction to the stranger side of TES lore, diving into the strange and ridiculous world of TES metaphysics, and will teach players about the Towers, Landfall, and the eponymous Wheels of Lull.

AUDITIONS & DEADLINES

Due to the nature and flexibility of our project, we like to say our auditions are "Open until filled," with a review of auditions beginning one week from the posting date. We ask that you provide us with your recording within ten days of receiving the script.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The VA Director, Mayor, will reach out to you either via CCC or Discord as soon as you are cast to welcome you to the project. I am always incredibly excited to bring on a new Voice Actor :) The script you receive will be detailed to describe the mood of the character and the scene, phonetic pronunciations of words, and relationship with other characters in the scene.

WHAT WE ASK OF YOU

(I liked the sample description, don't judge me)

  • First and foremost, have fun -- we take pride in bringing together talents in different mediums to create something truly phenomenal, but none of it means anything if the people involved aren't passionate about their craft.
  • Please submit clean recordings (no air conditioners in the background, no fans -- we don't mind performing noise reduction on your files, however too much clean-up reduces the quality of your voice). We welcome volume correction to your lines if you have audio engineering experience since you know your voice and equipment best, just let us know if you can do this :)
  • Feel free to cut your lines to your best/favorite takes. Three is the gold standard, but this is entirely up to you. Though please note:
  • We may ask you to re-record certain lines with some different directions - if you'd rather avoid this, I will provide live direction via Discord upon request.
  • You can provide the dialogue as one continuous raw track, cutting lines is of course not something we would ask of you.

Latest Updates

  • Sorry to spam... Numinar is still open.

Hi everyone! Sorry to spam you - just wanted to let everyone know the role of Numinar is still up in the air, but Avarri/Stoker and the Fabricant girl have been filled as of last night. Thanks for your patience with me, more to come soon.
  • Adjustment to casting

Just to append my previous post: I have not yet cast Avarri and there are some things were working on behind the scenes with Numinar as far as scheduling and waiting to hear from others. Stay tuned for updates.
  • Thanks for all your auditions!

Hi everyone - this casting call is now closed. Thank you to everyone who auditioned! This was incredibly difficult since so many good VAs participated - almost every role came down to the interpretation of the character, not talent (I actually have a couple of roles available that I haven't posted yet that I was hoping some of you might be interested in). I would be more than happy to provide feedback on an audition if that is something you would like. Again, thank you so much for taking the time to audition, we are so grateful to have had such a wide array of choices. -Mayor and "The Chronographer Maintenance Team"

Century Numinar
open
Unpaid

Century Numinar is the leader of the settlement of Lull-Mor, deep below the surface of Nirn (planet the game takes place on) and part of the Clockwork City, created by the god Sotha Sil to power the "world mechanisms." Numinar is a Chronographer, an artificial lifeform created by Sotha Sil, but this doesn't really change his voice - all the fabricants (Chronographers) sound like normal people.

Numinar is the primary quest giver in the mod. He is sarcastic and somewhat cold, and does not trust the player for most of the story. Looking for a pleasant-sounding, evened-toned male voice that is easy to listen to. The OG guy did audiobooks

From the original 2014 casting call:
The designated leader of the Chronographer team, Numinar may be recognized as the guy who wanted a cutting sphere back in Sotha Sil Expanded. He got it, and subsequently saw his home destroyed, himself shipped off, disgraced, and eventually exiled. Once an excited and curious man, Numinar has been beaten one too many times, and that curiosity extinguished, replaced with cynicism and detachment. Numinar is firm, cold, fairly deadpan, and not friendly. Looking for a male VA who can play a jaded asshole particularly well.

  • [Notes: Lull-mor pronounced like "lull more." We are interested to hear how you would pronounce "Llavados" (two L's) since different VAs said it different ways in the original recording so we don't really know lol]

Normally, outsider, I'd throw you off the edge of Lull-Mor, but you returned with Llavados, so I'll give you a chance.

  •

I'll assume you are aware of what a Tower is and keep things brief. Each Tower has a Stone, an anchor that keeps it working. This Stone is usually a smaller object. If it is destroyed, the Tower ceases to operate.

  • [Notes: Numinar is giving a speech to those who serve under him]

All right, you lot, listen up! You all know why we're here! Maybe some of us said the wrong thing, or did the wrong thing, or were just too mad, even for a fabricant.

Minute Avarri/The Stoker
closed
Unpaid
Role assigned to: durk_dibbin

Avarri should sound working-class (his current iteration is kind of scottish/cockny english), while the stoker is more of a wackjob. This is two parts and the voices should sound different.

From Original Casting Call:
Lull-Mor’s smith, he’s friendly, smart, and all too happy to help you. Except there’s that issue of the crazed, maniac AI in his head. Avarri is two people, himself, a friendly bumbler, but a good smith, and the Stoker, an angry condescending hateful AI that is nevertheless one of the greatest smiths of all time. The two share a brain, but can’t seem to decide on who should get control of the mouth, and thus conversations jump back and forth between the two. Don’t worry though, they’re both willing to help you forge up some new clockwork weaponry. Looking for a male VA who can play two parts, that of a brotherly blacksmith, and the other of a hammy rage-tastic maniac.

  • As Avarri:

That I can outsider. I've got a few things drafted up right now, and I'm sure as time goes on I can think up some additional designs.

  • As "The Stoker":

Half right, as usual! If I make you new things, I will require VERY specific materials from you, which I provide to you in a list.

  • Transitioning between the two (Avarri first, The Stoker Second)

    Sorry, it's a condition, I have a bit of a-
Condition? CONDITION?! Oh you will pay for this later smith, I'll see to it!

Fabricant Girl

Unpaid
Role assigned to: rabbitt

A girl who probably sounds around pre-teen based on how she looks. She is quiet but oddly wise for her age.

From original casting call:
A little cyborg girl. What the hell is she doing in Lull-Mor? Ah well, she repairs the FRFs, so she can stay. Looking for a female VA who can sound like a seven-year-old girl.

  • Get up. Please, get up. You are needed.

  • The oceans hold our thoughts. Our thoughts hold our salvation.

  • I watch. I wonder. I build. I tear down.
