The Purgatorians recasting call | Original ambitious audio drama

Project Overview

The Purgatorians is a highly ambitious, long running, original dramatic, thriller audio drama with horror and romantic elements. It was originally thought of in 2014 when production originally started and casting was made. Something happened that forced this into unofficial cancellation and was revived in 2024.

The prequel miniseries jumps straight into the action, with minimal setup. It follows the citizens in the final 4 days of the previous cycle just going about their business, making plans for the following year. However, most of them are unaware of the extinction level event that is about to take place on Christmas Day. This is not the only threat to them though. The Purgatorians want to claim this land for their own and are planning a very deadly mass attack upon the city before the cycle ends. The main show takes place 10 years after the miniseries ends and the cycle is in motion once more. In 5 years it will end again and the team must uncover the truth and put a stop to it once and for all.

There are currently 45 cast members recording lines for the show, and this is a urgent casting call for Raven. This character was cast, however they decided they could no longer commit to all 3 roles they wanted, so they let this one go. Normally new cast members receive a one month grace period to settle into their role, read through the scripts and get to know the other cast on Discord (completely optional for Raven, a must for extras). I will need to ask you to read the scripts as soon as possible to gain an understanding of your character and set the first deadline for the end of April.

The Purgatorians was originally intended to be an RPG game, which you will get some hints of that in the earlier episodes of the main show. I then turned this into an audio drama, starting with 18 episodes per season, running over 5 seasons. I then got it in my head that I wanted to script a soap opera (serial drama) and the stories may have felt a bit rushed with this short amount of time, so I increased episodes up to 32 episodes per season. I still felt the stories may need to be rushed, and here we are with 52 episodes per season, 5+ seasons, Christmas specials, and an anthology series that ties straight into the main show, giving more backstories on the characters.

If you want more information on the show, there is either a rough draft preview that includes clips from some scenes of the show, 12 comical, one very serious. These have not been balanced or being worked on at all yet, and contain no music, sound effects, or ambience. It is just to give you a sense of the types of characters and stories we have in the show. There are many more concepts, promos, trailers, old 2015 cast interviews as well as the new 2025 cast interviews that have only just started to go live, and the old character introduction videos that tell the bulk of the first episode. The Purgatorians is an audio drama in which no one is safe, no matter age or gender. Think Game of Thrones meets Wayward Pines. The setting is Serenetia, (Ser-ren-she-a) a strange land in which no-one travels to, they just appear. No-one knows how or why they are there, they just are. They give up looking for home when all seems hopeless and exist there. With a corrupt government, a sadistic council of five and the Purgatorians to deal with, not one month can pass by quietly., this is without the deadly sandstorms that wipe out all but two people, and the Purgatorians, in Serenity every fifteen years. Ten years after the last sandstorm the hero of prophecy arrives. The prophecy tells of the demise of the council and its members and the downfall of 'The Liberator', the leader of the Purgatorians but it speaks not of the Asylum itself.

With twists galore and containing some scenes people may find upsetting or offensive.

This show is entirely funded by me. I have no backing from others, or a production company. I receive roughly £1000 per month before living and subscription costs are taken from this, as well as song and music licensing fees. At the last tally, the show was costing over £65,000 per season, I expect this to be more than that now. My goal is to get cast members to indie rates industry standards with all back pay paid to this if the show makes enough profit to do so. At first this will only be released on YouTube, but I will be looking into getting all original songs, music and sound effects to add this onto Spotify and other audio streaming platforms.

There are also optional paid extras that you can take part in, such as cast interviews, cast commentary and outtakes. All but the outtakes are paid on a per episode script, the outtakes are paid at £1 per minute up to a maximum of 20 minutes. You can however add new outtakes into a separate folder and submit these when requested next time. Please keep in mind that paid optional extras will not be increased to industry standards if we get there and back pay are not paid for these, but the overall payment itself will increase, and these are completely optional with your refusal not affecting your role. The more we get though, the more chance of getting everyone to industry standard payments as there will be less gaps in content between seasons.

  • New urgent recasting call coming up

    Hello everyone

    This has hit me hard but I wanted to let you all know asap. A new recasting call is coming up tomorrow. This is for the same voice actor for Raven who had two other roles who has now decided to leave completely.

    These will be two female roles. Alice Potts and Elena Stoneheart.

    Alice (early 40's) is a crazy, insane and paranoid person who is always spouting untrue rumours about the residents, but also has some very important truths mixed in with them. She is half feral but this gives her a very important mental link with the antagonists.

    Elena Stoneheart (31-40) is a very cold and sadistic woman after the first episode of the prequel. The only pleasure she gets is to see others suffer. She will scheme and blackmail to get her own way. If this fails, she will just kill them. She is the most dangerous of the council members.

    I do regret to inform you that if this can't be cast through this call, the show will have no option but to be delayed into next year. These characters are important to the prequel and they do carry over into the main show. Alice is more a side character in the main show, Elena is a secondary character and is in the show until at least season 3, preferably season 4.

    Thank you everyone. I really do hope someone can truly voice these characters as these were the hardest for people to get correct in the main auditions.

  • Why do I give feedback to all auditions?

    I have recently had someone take great offense to the feedback I give to everyone who auditions here. I would like to give the reason why I do this.

    I have had over 1000 auditions since starting this project, over 3 casting calls so far. No matter what they audtiioned for, actor, singer, or musician, every single one of these have had feedback. I have mentioned terrible audio quality but if I don't think someone is suitable for any of them, I don't call them terrible, I give feedback. Same with those who may be suitable. I don't single anyone out.

    I do this to help you bring the best audition you can. I understand completely that these are out of context lines on a page to you and you don't know the full picture of what is happening to speak the lines correctly on the first try.

    Every director has a vision of the characters, their personalities, and the stories that are told. I try to guide you to that vision, to help you understand it while trying to limit too many spoilers, since this is a public site. I am not trying to be mean or hurtful in any way whatsoever.

    I will always continue to offer feedback. Most people thank me for it or even praise the fact I do this. I would not have half the cast working with me now if they never listened to the feedback and resubmitted another audition. In fact, I don't even think the show would be in production right now if I never offered feedback at all.

    I thank each and everyone of you who has taken the feedback on board, whether to resubmit or to take with you for other auditions. I'm honestly not pretentious and have everyones best interests at heart. I always tell my cast, who I care for very much and am very thankful to them, that I want them to use this show as a stepping stone to get bigger and better paid roles. The casts respect and wellbeing is my top priority, it honestly is.

  • Changed the video.

    I have now changed the video from clips from the show to finding out exactly what it's like to work on the show with me.

    The clips video was there to give you an insight into some of the characters you may be voicing alongside. Now, I want to make people aware of what it's like to work on The Purgatorians.

    Please be aware that I told all voice actors who took part in this to be 100% truthful and their roles would be safe regardless. There are no edits by me to make it sound better than what it is. I truly value this show as a team effort.

  • An urgent call this time.

    As you can see, there's only one character in this one instead of the many I normally bring. This is because the original cast member had commitment issues suddenly arise which forced her to drop out of the role. I had to set up this urgent call as lines are already being recorded and the show goes live in December.

Current Plot line - She is acting as a double agent for the Purgatorians and Abraham.


Main character who requires a lot of commitment as she is in the show a long time and can't be written out because she is tied to the main story in a huge way 


Female - 25-35 - Elegant British accent like Morrigan's in Dragon Age (Please see video). Those with a British accent will be considered before an American accent, but if all else fails, an American accent will suffice if I'm forced into it. She is heavily inspired by Morrigan, so please make sure you can provide the tones she speaks in. Don't make the delivery flat please. Clear audio only please.


Raven is sarcastic and condescending to all but Abraham and Demetrius. She believes herself to be above everyone else in the group. She can manipulate people to do things her way quite easily. I would like her to have sharp wit and mocking and condescending tones like Morrigan in Dragon Age. She is mean through sarcasm and jest, not mean directly.


Raven would see humor as a weakness and would not chuckle unless she found something absolutely ridiculous or was embarrassed, such as when she thinks she is getting flattered as she is not used to such things happening. Keep her sarcasm on show as well as her bluntness, she always cuts straight to the point.

  • (Friendly) I am not sure whether he knows that or not, it was never mentioned however we both know Abraham likes to hold his cards close to his chest, especially where the council is concerned. He may know more than he is letting on however I will act as a double agent, acting on behalf of both you and my uncle.

Everytime you think you have figured me out, something will happen that will blow your theory into the tiniest pieces. I would not even bother trying.

  • (Condescending, mocking) I speak to him as his superior whereas you all stumble upon your words. You show him you hold no confidence and he will not see this as a true formation until you do. You remember what you said to me outside the church Jamie? How official you sounded? This needs to be applied to all those who try to undermine your authority. When we tried to gain access to the barracks you acted like a little puppy who had just urinated in his masters shoes.

Extras are there to make the world seem more alive. They may have passing conversations as they pass by the main characters. They need to add to the tension, the drama, or the horror. If I am impressed enough by the voice actor, they may even be upgraded to secondary characters.


Any age and gender is fine for this. Clear audio is needed though.


There is an extras section on our Discord server for all that are interested. Discord is a must for this because, although some lines are scripted, some lines must be recorded with others to create natural passing conversations, or natural reactions with others in regards to what is happening.


If you want to join our Discord and be added into the extras channels, you must first audition here and wait for my feedback. I will say whether I think your audio is clear enough to join in that. After joining, you must then give me your CCC name either in the general section or DM and request to be put into the extras sections. You will then be able to provide lines when I request them. Normally, this is when a full rough draft is put together.
