About the Project

This project is a comic dub of the Sonic the Hedgehog fan comic, “The Princess and the Cow Herder” by the extremely talented Gabs Sam and Megu_Art_. This comic uses the Sonic the Hedgehog characters to tell the legend of “Tanabata,” a Japanese holiday that celebrates the annual reunion of the celestial lovers, Orihime and Hikoboshi. All roles have been cast or are in negotiation with the exception of three. My goal is to produce a high-quality comic dub and also make this project a positive experience for all involved! Let’s make something beautiful and happy together!

  • Compensation: $3.00/Line, with a $51.00 Minimum (All in USD) (Rates based on the Voice Over Club Indie Rate Guide: https://voiceactingclub.com/rates/) A contract will be provided to protect you and me. (IGNORE THE PAY RATE CCC DISPLAYS. IT IS NOT ACCURATE TO WHAT I AM OFFERING).


  • Credit: You will be credited in the video and in the video description along with desired web and social media links.


  • This project's material is appropriate for all ages. There is no swearing, explicit, violent, discriminatory, sex-related, or any other NSFW material in the comic.


  • Permission to dub this comic has been given by the artists, Gabs Sam and Megu_Art_.


  • Where this video will be posted is currently up in the air as I am not active on my YouTube Account. However, this will be decided as the project progresses.


  • Rest assured that I will not cast the roles until the casting call is closed at 11:59 PM/23:59 MST, March 8, 2023. So take all the time you need to audition!


  • The Casting Call will close at 11:59 PM/23:59 MST, March 8, 2023.


Project Requirements


  • All Voice-Over Artists must be 18 years or older to audition


  • Equipment: XLR microphones are preferred. However, USB mics may be used. The recording space must be treated. Equipment such as laptop microphones, headsets, and phone microphones will not be considered.


  • Must be willing and able to be live-directed.


  • Must be able to record in WAV Mono.


  • Must be willing to treat fellow cast and crew members with respect and professionalism. We all want to be proud of this project and have a positive experience! If you mistreat any of the cast or crew, the contract will be voided and you will be recast.


  • We do have a Discord Server for this project set up to organize efforts and keep everyone informed of the progress. You are welcome to join this server if cast.


  • You must be able to be contacted throughout the project’s duration. If I do not hear back from you within 30 days of my reaching out to you, the contract will be voided and you will be recast.


Audition Requirements


  • Please record your audition with the equipment and in the space you plan to record in!


  • Do not slate.


  • 2 takes in AABBCC Format. No more than 2 takes. Please vary your takes! I want to hear how talented you are!


  • Please keep your audition raw. Do not add any effects, sound effects, music, compression, noise reduction etc. to your audition. I want to hear how your equipment and recording space handles audio!  I will be watching for items such as peaking, popping, excessive background noise, levels/gain, etc. (To clarify, however, you may splice takes together, compile the best takes, remove dead space, and remove slip-ups or errors.)


  • Only one audition per audio file, please. And only one audition per character. You are welcome and encouraged to audition for all roles!


  • Please send your audition in MP3 Mono.


  • Please list the equipment you are using.


  • Please be professional regardless of the outcome of the casting. Professionalism is part of the audition process, so I will be watching. ;)


  • Have fun! As they say, auditions are your chance to be that character for a window of time. So enjoy yourself!


Why should you work with me?


  • This is my debut directing a full project. However, I have been in the voice-over community for almost five years. I have recorded for commercials, e-learning, narration, web animations, radio shows, audio dramas, podcasts, live streams, and indie and student video games—I know what it is like to be in projects like these! 


  • I also have experience in Sound Design, so I understand what it is not only like to be in the cast but the crew as well!


  • In the Sonic community specifically, my clients have included Balena Productions, Tails and Sonic Pals, Sonic Villains, Pixelrush, Adrenaline Dubs, Sonic Revolution, Radio Harrow, Sonic Adventure 2: Reimagined, Cashlin Snow, Sonic Underground: ReVamp, and more! I was also a featured voice-over guest at the Chaos Creators and Sonic Revolution conventions in 2022 (Both Live and Online Conventions).

  • The script has already been written out and the scope of the project has already been evaluated and approved by my experienced video editor. Permission has been granted by the artists to dub this comic. We are already underway. We are determined to not only finish this project but make it a show-stopper!

Character and Role Description: Marine is an energetic raccoon and inventor that often gets into trouble more than she stays out of it. However, she has a heart of gold and is determined to help everyone around her. Marine is childish, passionate and a ball of energy—so let that reflect in your performance and voice! She has the most lines of all of the characters. She will be narrating the comic, so I will be looking for a strong performance in narration! (Approximate number of lines: 26)

Voice Description: There is no official voice for Marine to date, however, the fanbase has been able to nail down a consistent timbre. A quick search of some online comic dubs will give you a great reference on how the fanbase likes her to sound. She has a higher pitch, a slightly rougher timbre (think slightly raspy or gritty—like a sailor), and a higher volume. However, the most important feature of her voice is her Australian accent. Ideally, I would prefer an accurate Broad Australian accent. However, I am also open to a General Australian accent! Have fun with Marine! She is a ball of energy and will be a blast to perform!

Character and Role Description: Cheese is a mythical creature called a “Chao” and is the faithful companion of Cream. Sweet and loyal, they are always by Cream’s side and supporting her.

I plan to cast the same voice-over artist as Cheese to play the other Chaos that appear in the comic. This is due to the fact that the Chaos and Cheese have a consistent sound in the games and television shows. (Approximate number of lines: 8)

Voice Description: Cheese can only express themselves through the use of the word “Chao,” efforts, and other vocalizations, so expressiveness and variation are key! Consider it an acting challenge to express a lot of emotion with one word and/or vocalization when portraying the different types of Chaos! Something like Tomoko Sasaki’s take on the Chaos in “Chaos in Space,” or Ryo Hirohashi’s take on Cheese in Sonic Heroes and Shadow the Hedgehog would be amazing!

Voice Description: Cream’s voice should be the embodiment of her name: Light and sweet (Like whipped cream). She is high-pitched, but please do not make her shrill or not easy to listen to! Her sound should be pleasant. Essentially, we want to go “aww” when we listen to her! A good reference would be Michelle Ruff’s take on Cream from Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations.
