The Last Draft Tavern: The Mage Blade Mara Sinclair and Additional Voices
Project Overview
Adventurers! Welcome to the Last Draft
The Last Draft Tavern is a fantasy slice of life webshow about the Barkeep, the owner of the aforementioned tavern and the shenanigans that take place at his adventurer bar. Inspired by dungeons and dragons, the Last Draft Tavern is a humorous exploration of DnD, and fantasy tropes, with a bit of fun worldbuilding on the side.
About this Casting Call
I am looking for actors to voice the adventurers who come into the bar, seeking respite from their quests and advice from the (seemingly all-knowing) Barkeep. Most of the adventurers who come into the tavern are one-off, unnamed characters, so I need a variety of voices, and accents to bring the tavern to life. Keep this in mind when auditioning, and give me up to 3 different line readings with different voices/accents to showcase your flexibility!
There is also one named and reoccuring character I am casting for; ex-adventurer and current Adventurer Guild Representative, the Mage Blade Mara Sinclair. Mara will appear frequently within the tavern as she helps out other adventurers, blows off steam at the tavern, and even as she struggles with her own storyline.
Things to be aware of when auditioning:
Decent mic quality and minimal background noises are very important.
This is not a show for kids. There will be occasional swearing and adult themes.
Though the show is mostly humorous, there will be opportunities for more serious scripts.
Sometimes a script will be more about lore and worldbuilding and require a good deal of exposition. As such, actors will need to be very engaging and give a lot of info, while still sounding like they are having a normal conversation.
I am constantly adding more re-occuring characters to the roster, so chances are if you are cast as a one-off character, you may have an opportunity to reappear in a future video.
Compensation
While these roles will start out as unpaid, I have high hopes for the show and will reeavaluate as it increases in popularity.
Submitting Lines
If cast, we accept line submissions through Discord, Google Drive, or email—whatever is easiest for you.
Timeline
The Last Draft is an ongoing project that will post a video 1-2 times weekly. There will be plenty of opportunities to appear in a video and I can be flexible with people's schedules.
Important Notice
Only submit the provided audition lines.
Submissions that do not include the audition lines will be dismissed.
Lastly...
Have fun with it! One of the great joys of DnD (for me at least) is to lose myself in a silly or serious character and think about how my life would be in a world of magic and heroes. I look forward to hearing all of your auditions and hearing you bring the world of the Last Draft to life.
Ex-adventurer and current Adventurer's Guild Representative, the Mage Blade Mara Sinclair is one of the most famous adventurers in all of Estraya; not that she's even aware of it. Considered one of the most powerful mages in the world, Mara Sinclair gave up her adventuring life after a fatal encounter with a Greatwyrm. But one cannot simply leave that life behind. It wasn't long before Mara found herself within the adventuring city of Respite, seeking employment at Hearthall, the world's foremost Guildhall for adventurers.
Now, Mara uses her experience to advise less experienced Adventurers, seek out clients and investigate quests that the guild may take on. Efficient, organized and hardworking, she quickly rose through the ranks to be one of the highest ranked Guild Reps Hearthall had ever seen. Now she manages the Guild's best and most effective parties, ensuring their success and their proper payment.
Though she is well-renowned, Mara does not see herself as such. She is humble enough to be downright self-deprecating and though she loves her work, sees her retirement from adventuring to be a failure on her part. She spends her freetime alone, her only companion her familiar, a Faery Dragon named Railus. Though this seems to be her preference (even to herself), deep inside Mara is lonely and craves the companionship of someone who will both challenge and comfort her.
Mara is:
- Serious but does not lack humor.
- Smart but kind.
- Introverted but lonely.
- Calm but fearsome when angered.
- english
- female adult
- all english accents
- british (posh)
Business as usual, which is to say, hectic and busy. The Guild hall in Gairn has been having issues with the Shepherds, the guard force in Felwyr.
Something happened a few weeks ago, a slaughter at a nearby settlement called Talo involving one of our party’s and a little less than a dozen Sheps. According to Gairn’s Guildmaster Ferro Telk, a member of a goblinoid tribe hired the party on behalf of the people of Talo. The tribe often traded with the citizenry until a few months back when a group of bandits moved in and began extorting them. Long story short, the local Sheps were in on it, and when the party confronted them, a massive battle broke out. 2 of the adventurers were killed, along with dozens of the guards and bandits. I think a few civilians were even caught in the crossfire
I was *going* to say patriotic. Needless to say, things in the region are unstable. We’ve decided to send down an investigative team in secret, to find proof of the Sheps' misdeeds. If we can, it might repair the relationship between us and the commonfolk.
Seeking flexible voice actors who can embody the Adventurers that come into the tavern. All voices and accents are welcome. Preference will be given to those who give at least 3 different readings per line, with a different voice or accent for each.
It’s just…ever since my party’s started taking on more dangerous quests, I’ve been relegated to being our healer. I’m the only one who can cast any magic, so anytime someone goes down it’s up to me to get them back up. But because of that, I can’t cast any of my other spells. I didn’t become an adventurer to be a *healer*.
Oh yeah, that’s nothing. See this one of my forearm? That’s from when a Hook Horror almost made me a lefty.
I watched a world die, civilizations wiped away like crumbs from a table. I could protect so few and I… *magically stopped from saying more*
