Fuurinkazan is a clearing guild, led by Klein, in "Sword Art Online".

PERSONALITY

Fuurinkazan is a guild started by Klein and a group of his friends from the real world. They had waited in line for a long time in order for each of them to obtain one of the 10,000 copies of the game. All of the members of Fuurinkazan have known each other since before SAO started. Klein had protected and guided all of them, until all of them had become well-capable players on the front-lines.

DESCRIPTION

Midori Kirigaya is the mother of Suguha, as well as the aunt and adoptive mother of Kazuto. She is an extremely busy woman and leaves the two kids to take care of themselves, only coming back home late in the night and leaving early in the morning, though she still shows love and care for them.

PERSONALITY

While Kazuto was trapped in Sword Art Online, Midori and her husband Minetaka revealed the truth about Kazuto being an adopted child to Suguha at the hospital. They had been planning to wait until Suguha was in high school to tell her, but the possibility of Kazuto dying while in the game motivated them to do it sooner, while he was still alive.

DESCRIPTION

Alicia Rue is a supporting character in the Fairy Dance Arc and a reoccurring character throughout the Sword Art Online series. She is the Lord of the Cait Sith race in "ALfheim Online" (ALO). She was elected to the position of leader by popular vote. She formed an alliance with the Sylphs to finish the "Guardians of the World Tree".

PERSONALITY

During the Cait Sith meeting with the Sylphs at the Butterfly Valley, the negotiations were interrupted by Salamanders led by General Eugene. Just before they could attack, Kirito entered the stage and helped prevent a battle by bluffing about a Spriggan-Undine alliance and defeating Eugene in battle.

DESCRIPTION

Sakuya is a supporting character in the Fairy Dance Arc and a reoccurring character throughout the Sword Art Online series. She is the Lord of the Sylph race in ALfheim Online and an exceptional swordswoman. She was elected as the leader of the Sylph race by garnering 80% of votes. Although her stats are not very high due to her status as a Lord preventing her from leaving safe zones without proper escort, she is a formidable opponent in the Sylph dueling tournaments.

PERSONALITY 

For a female Sylph, Sakuya had an excessively tall figure, with glossy, dark green hair so dark that it is nearly black hanging down her back. She has white skin, almond eyes, a high nose bridge, and thin lips. According to Leafa her beauty is that of a finely honed blade. Sakuya wears Japanese-style clothing and a katana that hangs from her obi. Her feet clad in high crimson clogs peek out from beneath the hem of her leaf green kimono.

DESCRIPTION

Schmitt is a supporting character in the Aincrad Arc. He is one of the 10,000 players who were trapped in "Sword Art Online". Schmitt used to be member of the "Golden Apple" guild, until he unknowingly assisted in the murder of their leader. When his original guild collapsed following this incident, Schmitt used the money he earned from the culprit to purchase gear that would earn him entry to the Divine Dragons Alliance guild. Eventually, Schmitt became the sub-leader of the guild's defense force.

PERSONALITY

Although Schmitt appears to be a brave tank during battles, in reality, he is extremely afraid of death. Figuring that the rules of the game might change and towns might become unsafe at some point, he decided to "become sturdy" and thus put in a lot of effort in leveling up, though he chose the safest methods to do so. Because of his insistent philosophy of being "sturdy" and his hard work, he eventually became one of the strongest players in the game in terms of Hit Points (HP), equipment defense and defensive skills. Additionally, due to such a philosophy, he views people wearing light leather armour and using offense-oriented weapons as weirdos.

Ducker was one of the 10,000 players who were trapped in "Sword Art Online" and a member of the "Moonlit Black Cats" guild. Ducker was a thief-build player and was killed along with most of his guild, excluding Kirito, when he triggered a trap that spawned multiple monsters and prevented the use of crystals.

He has also been shown to be a person who returns favors, like when he supported Kirito's lie to his superior General Eugene.

He was in charge of maintaining the network connection before being trapped in the game.

Sigurd is a very arrogant and self-righteous, "holier-than-thou" kind of man, who values respect more than his companions, even resorting to using them like items, as in the case with Leafa. It is unlike him to sacrifice himself for others, either.

Yui, officially named "Yui-MHCP001" (Mental Health Counseling Program 001), is a supporting character throughout the Sword Art Online series. She is a top-down Artificial Intelligence (AI) program that was originally developed by Argus to address player mental health concerns in Sword Art Online (SAO). However, when Kayaba Akihiko turned Sword Art Online into a death game, Yui was forbidden from interfering with players whatsoever by the Cardinal System, which led to her collapsing due to being forced to monitor player mental health without being able to fulfil her duties.

PERSONALITY

Yui had become melancholic when the death game began, as she was not allowed to comfort players and was forced to continue monitoring their psychological parameters. When she finally, after nearly two years of only seeing insanity, misery, and anger, noticed a couple, expressing happiness and joy, she became overwhelmed with curiosity, which led to her ignoring the Cardinal System's command not to interact with players.

DESCRIPTION

Diabel was one of the 10,000 players who were trapped in "Sword Art Online" and was one of the few known beta testers. He appeared as the leader of the 1st Floor boss raid party and died while fighting Illfang the Kobold Lord.

PERSONALITY

Diabel was a strong and natural leader, having led the raiding group with tactics, resulting with almost no casualties and inspiring fellow players to clear the death game with his speech of determination. However, his personality had a darker side as he secretly tried to use the situation to his own advantage, like attempting to purchase the Anneal Bladee from Kirito to reduce his attack power during the boss raid and ensuring that he was assigned to a support role of handling Illfang's minions in order to prevent him from taking the Last Attack (LA) on the boss and then aiming for the LA himself.

DESCRIPTION

Rosalia is one of the 10,000 players who were trapped in "Sword Art Online" as well as the leader of the "Titan's Hand" orange guild. She scouted for victims and lured them to a place where the other members of the guild would then attack and loot the victims, thus maintaining her "green cursor" to avoid suspicion. She was caught by Kirito and sent to the prison managed by "Aincrad Liberation Force" (The Army).

PERSONALITY

Rosalia is a sly woman who uses her beauty and charms to attract potential victims for her guild to ambush. She will try to sweet-talk herself out of troubling situations, such as when she futilely attempted to convince Kirito that they should form a party instead of him sending her to prison.

Grimlock is one of the 10,000 players who were trapped in "Sword Art Online" and a former member of the "Golden Apple" guild.

PERSONALITY

Grimlock had apparently loved his wife, Griselda, greatly. However, unlike Grimlock who was constantly scared of death, Griselda did not fear death as she played Sword Art Online and was notably more lively living in the game than she was in real life. Grimlock apparently felt that Griselda had loved the game more than her husband and, in possibly desperation due to the fear of death, he killed Griselda as he believed she no longer resemble the wife he loved in real life.

He was one of the 10,000 players who were trapped in "Sword Art Online" (SAO), where he was a veteran axe-wielder and a merchant who owned a shop in Algade, a city on the 50th Floor of "Aincrad". After returning to the real world in the aftermath of the Sword Art Online incident, Andrew began playing ALFheim Online (ALO) as a Gnome. In real life, Andrew manages the "Dicey Cafe" with the help of his wife.

PERSONALITY

Agil is a very friendly and helpful person who is always looking out for others. He is also trustworthy and reliable, shown when he defended the beta testers against Kibao, gave Kirito a place to stay, and helped players on lower floors. He also can be a leader on the battlefield and will help his comrades and friends no matter the cost. Although Agil acted as though he only cared about making money, Kirito commented that he had spent all of his helping mid-level players level up.

PERSONALITY

Silica is very kind, bright, cheerful, and supportive of her friends. She also has developed a deep attachment to her Tamed Monster Pina to the point that she was heartbroken to see it die and overjoyed when told that there was a way to revive it.

Nagata Shinichi, known as Recon in "ALfheim Online" (ALO), is a Sylph player who excels at using daggers, stealth and dark magic in combat. In real life, he is a friend and classmate of Kirigaya Suguha. As Recon, Shinichi acted as Leafa's in-game character's mentor, until she surpassed him.

PERSONALITY

Living up to his name, Recon is considered to be one of the best trackers among the Sylphs. Because of this, he takes up the role as lead tracker during hunting expeditions. Despite his somewhat unreliable attitude, Recon is a veteran in ALfheim Online and has mastered the use of daggers in combat.

DESCRIPTION

Atsushi Kanamoto, known as Johnny Black in "Sword Art Online", is a minor antagonist in the Aincrad Arc, Phantom Bullet Arc, and Alicization Arc. He was one of the 10,000 players who were trapped in Sword Art Online, where he was a member of the infamous "Laughing Coffin" red guild. In the game, he was partnered with Red-Eyed XaXa and well known for using poisons in battles. A year after Sword Art Online was cleared, Atsushi was invited to help with the Death Gun plot by his former Laughing Coffin partner. At the end of the incident, Atsushi managed to escape arrest with a spare dose of a dangerous drug, succinylcholine. Atsushi resurfaced half a year later, when he assaulted Kazuto Kirigaya, while he was accompanying Asuna Yuuki home, and injected him with a lethal dose of the drug.

PERSONALITY

Johnny Black is a sadistic, cold-blooded killer who likes to have fun with his victims before killing them. For example, when he, XaXa, and PoH had captured Schmitt, Caynz, and Yolko on the Hill of the Cross, he suggested having a fight-to-the-death game among their captives, with the promise of freedom as a reward to the victor of the game. However, PoH revealed that he had killed the winner of such a game the last time anyway.

Thinker is one of the 10,000 players who were trapped in "Sword Art Online". He is in charge of the popular net gaming information site: "MMO Today" and was also the former leader of SAO's largest guild: the "Aincrad Liberation Force" (ALF).

PERSONALITY

Thinker desired to help those in need. During his time in SAO, he spent most of his time spreading information and resources equally among as many players as possible in order for them to use that mutual aid to clear the death game. Kirito described Thinker as having a character that gave off an aura of gentleness.

Yolko appeared to be a extremely terrified and traumatized person when her former guildmate and boyfriend, Caynz, "died", but she is proven to be a good actor when it is revealed that she and Caynz had staged the murder and Yolko had pretended to have been traumatized.

PERSONALITY

Keita was a person who put the welfare of his guild above everything else and was described as a hopeful and forward type person, whose dreams were to be on the frontlines of SAO, helping to clear the game. However, Keita gave into despair after learning of the deaths of his guildmates.

Gtacs is a minor antagonist in the Fairy Dance Arc. He is a powerful mage and the leader of a Salamanders Mage Group.

PPERSONALTY

Gtacs is an arrogant person, who was confident enough that his Mage Group's combined fire Magic could overwhelm Kirito in a fight while his group's tanks kept him occupied, but when the latter gained the upper hand, he acted cowardly and ran for his life which eventually got him killed by the lake monster.

Asuna Yuuki, known as Asuna in "Sword Art Online" (SAO), "ALfheim Online" (ALO), as well as "Project Alicization", where she had temporarily used the Stacia account, is the main heroine of the Sword Art Online series, the deuteragonist of the Aincrad Arc, as well as the protagonist of the Mother's Rosario side story. She is the daughter of the former CEO of RECT Inc. Asuna was one of the 10,000 players trapped in "Sword Art Online", where she was the sub-leader of the "Knights of the Blood" (KoB) guild. Her skills with the rapier had her earned her the nickname "The Flash"

PERSONALITY

Asuna originally did not care about dying in the game before meeting Kirito. That meeting drastically changed Asuna's personality and outlook on life. She soon takes most things Kirito says to heart and looks to him for help, using him as somewhat of a lifeline.

PERSONALITY

Unlike her cousin Kazuto, Suguha is upbeat and outgoing. She is much more social and converses easily with others. Even when Kazuto began to push her away after finding out they were not really siblings, she still treated him with good spirit and tried to get back in his life. She can be very aggressive towards those that annoy her or cross her and can easily lose her temper. This is demonstrated in one case when Recon attempted to kiss her after confessing his love to her and she punched him.

He was one of the 10,000 players who were trapped in Sword Art Online, where he was the guild leader of "Fuurinkazan", one of the clearer guilds. After Sword Art Online was cleared, he began playing ALfheim Online as a Salamander.

PERSONALITY

Klein is one of the friendliest people in the series and sets the mood when he is around. He never holds grudges against others and is always ready to lend a helping hand.

Shinozaki Rika, known as Lisbeth in "Sword Art Online" (SAO), "ALfheim Online" (ALO), and "Project Alicization", is a supporting character in the Aincrad Arc, one of the main characters of the Girls Ops spinoff, along with Suguha Kirigaya (Leafa) and Keiko Ayano (Silica), and a reoccurring character throughout the Sword Art Online series. She is one of the 10,000 players who were trapped in Sword Art Online, where she became a blacksmith and opened up her own store in Lindarth. After Sword Art Online was cleared, Rika began playing ALfheim Online with her friends as a Leprechaun blacksmith. During the course of the game, she opened a new blacksmith store in Yggdrasil City.

PERSONALITY

Lisbeth is a very friendly person that can get along with just about everyone she meets. She is hardworking and takes great pride in her abilities as a blacksmith. She will become very defensive and aggressive if someone were to challenge her pride as a blacksmith much like Kirito did after accidentally breaking the best sword she had created. She has a bad temper and can get somewhat violent, such as when she grabbed Kirito by the collar after he broke one of her best swords. Lisbeth is very teasing as well.

Kayaba Akihiko, known as Heathcliff in Sword Art Online, was the main antagonist of the Aincrad Arc and a supporting character in the Fairy Dance Arc and Alicization Arc. He was the development director and Game Master (GM) of "Sword Art Online" (SAO), as well as the designer of the "NerveGear", the Cardinal System, and "The Seed".

PERSONALITY 

As his avatar Heathcliff, Akihiko eventually founded what later became Sword Art Online's strongest guild, the "Knights of the Blood". He was the owner of the first "Unique Skill", named "Holy Sword", and was considered to be strongest player in-game. He wielded the collective one-handed sword and tower shield called Liberator. He also was able to engage the boss of the 50th Floor in battle for ten minutes by himself, which earned him the title "Man of Legend". It was also rumored that Heathcliff's hit points (HP) had never reached the yellow zone.

Nobuyuki Sugou, known as Fairy King Oberon in "ALfheim Online" (ALO), is the main antagonist of the Fairy Dance Arc. He was the chief of the research institute of RECT Inc., RECT Progress, as well as Asuna Yuuki's ex-fiance.

PERSONALITY

Nobuyuki hides his true personality, especially in front of Asuna's father but shows his true colors to Kazuto as soon as they were left alone. Nobuyuki is an amoral and greedy entrepreneur, having kidnapped 300 players from SAO for his experiment on manipulating the human mind, which he planned to sell to other companies. Nobuyuki also has a habit of framing others for his problems, especially Kayaba as he felt that he was the source of all of his problems.

Shouichi Shinkawa, known as XaXa in "Sword Art Online and as Sterban in "Gun Gale Online", is the main antagonist of the Phantom Bullet Arc and a minor antagonist in the Aincrad Arc. He is one of the 10,000 players who were trapped in Sword Art Online, where he was a member of the infamous red guild "Laughing Coffin", nicknamed as Red-Eyed XaXa, because of the red eyes of his skull mask. After being released from the game, Shouichi began playing Gun Gale Online due to the recommendation of his brother, Kyouji Shinkawa. In October 2025, the two brothers created and began executing the "Death Gun" plot, which involved giving the impression that they could kill people in real life from within a game.

PERSONALITY

Shouichi is a cold and sadistic person who believed in PoH's principles. He enjoys killing other players, even with full knowledge that they would be killed in real life as well, due to relishing the feeling of being feared by others. Shouichi's sense of reality began wearing thin since he joined Laughing Coffin, feeling that only things beneficial to him were real.

Hosaka Carina Tomo, known as Argo in "Sword Art Online", is a supporting character in the Aincrad Arc and the Unital Ring Arc. She was an SAO beta tester and is one of the 10,000 players who were trapped in Sword Art Online, where she worked as an information broker and was known by the nickname Argo the Rat due to the whiskers painted on her face in the beta test that eventually became her trademark.
