The Purrince and The Pawper (SVA Student Short Film)
Project Overview
INTRODUCTION
Hello!! I'm an animation major at the School of Visual Arts and I'm looking for voice talent for my sophomore short film, "The Purrince and the Pawper." A tiger prince and a street cat switch lives for a day, unaware of the difficulties being in unfamiliar shoes will bring.
It's about two minutes and thirty seconds in length, and will be finished late April.
I'm looking for voices for the two main characters of the film as well as a handful of background/supporting characters that have a few lines as well.
I'm also looking for music to be composed for the film if possible.
The animatic is complete, and I'm currently working on the rough animation.
Credit will be given at the end of the film. I plan to post it on social media after submitting it to film festivals.
I'm on a budget as I'm a full-time college student, but every accepted position will be paid.
IMPORTANT INFO
- Payment is in USD and will be sent through paypal
- You may try out for more than one character! (encouraged to try out for some background character lines if you're trying out for the main characters)
- Must be willing to provide additional voice aspects such as gasps, sighs, grunts, etc.
- A good, clear mic is required
- Try to keep your audition takes to a minimum, 2-3 takes per line
- Please provide your audition in a single file if possible
- Files should be in .wav (preferably) or .mp3 format
- I'd prefer to contact those who get roles through discord, but email is fine as well. Feel free to contact me if you have questions!
DEADLINES AND AUDITIONS
The deadline is March 24th, which is about a week since the posting of this casting call. I need the dialog for my film as soon as possible after that date, but if you need a few extra days, please let me know. Looking to record within a few days after the end date!

I underestimated how long sorting through almost 250 auditions would take; there's so many talented people who applied! I've narrowed them down quite a bit and should have the cast chosen later tonight or sometime tomorrow. Thank you everyone for your patience!

Deadline TONIGHT, 11:59 PM EST!
Reminder that auditions are closing tonight! I'm blown away by the current 200+ auditions that I've received for this short film. Everyone who has applied is incredibly talented, and it'll be a tough one to judge for sure. Thank you to everyone who has applied, shared, and shown their support for this film!! I'll be picking the cast as soon as possible after auditions close (hopefully within the following day) and will contact those chosen.
- Open to any accent, but an english one may fit the prince role
- Noble, posh, yet kind. Naive.
- Young teen, around 14 years old
Character summary:
This young prince has spent most of his life living behind castle walls. All he knows about the outside world is what he’s read in his adventure books. Despite his naivety, he’s eager to learn. He may be a bit socially awkward and find himself making mistakes often, but he has a good heart. He wishes to explore everywhere he can and make some friends–if he’s ever able to escape the castle, that is.
[Longing, slightly sad tone] (sighs) I wish my life was exciting like the cats in town.
[Excited tone] (gasps) A street cat! Are you from the town?
[Can be said frantically. Sincere tone] Wait! This is all my fault. I just wanted to live one day where I wasn’t stuck in the castle, so we switched places. Punish me.
- Doesn't have as many lines as the other lead, but just as important.
- Laid back street cat, a bit rough around the edges. Maybe a little mischievous.
- Young teen, around 14 years old
Character summary:
Caspian has been raised within the large town that rests against the castle borders. He’s always struggled a bit financially, having to do what he can to get by. Despite those hardships, he has great connections and knows just about everyone in town. He’s got many friends and is pretty charismatic. But boy, would he love some money and a taste of the royal life.
(sighs) I wish I were royalty, my life would be so much easier.
[uncomfortable] Ah hah hah, oh no...
OR
[uncomfortable] Ah hah hah, yea...[defeated, dejected tone] No, no, this was my fault too. I wanted to experience an easy, royal life, but I was wrong.
These are varying minor character lines! They're all different characters, all adults.
Feel free to do these takes as fun and varying as you desire, have fun!
[one of the shopkeepers] (angrily) Did he steal from you, too?
[one of the royal tutors] (posh, proper) Ah prince, there you are! We simply must touch up on your etiquette.
[a friend of one of the leads] (chill, then shocked/angry) Yo, Cas- Hey, wait a minute, you're not Caspian! How'd you get his clothes?!
I'm honestly open to looking at anything! I'm unfortunately on a budget as I'm a full-time college student.
Information that may be helpful:
- The main setting for the film is a royal castle that overlooks a town square.
- Two characters switch lives and accidentally cause a lot of trouble.
- There's a chase scene towards the end where the two collide and have to confess to their switch and fix the problems they caused.
I can send over the animatic to you if you would like a general sense of timing! I'm pretty flexible, I'm just looking for something that might work with my two minute 30 second film, keeping dialog in mind.
