Project Overview
THE PROJECT
Shuttle Revolution is a fast paced, stylish, badminton fighting game dated to release in Fall 2022 for Steam.

Hey! We at Head Empty Studios, a small indie games studio taking part in the Tranzfuser program, are looking for English voice talent! We already have our team of programmers, designers, artists, and composers chugging away at the game's development, and now all we need are the voices to give our work some much needed life!
We are opening paid auditions for all of our starting cast. Each lead role who gets chosen will be paid $25 (or its equivalent) at the end once all deliverables have been finalised and submitted to us. The rest of the additional roles will be paid $10 each.
Feel free to post multiple takes of certain lines in your auditions with different inflections to help us understand your vocal range!
Also, there is no limit to how many characters you can submit for, so don't worry. Give each one a shot if you really want! :D
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
-
Dedication - People who will see the project through to it's end. Those who are willing to work to soft deadlines immediately after the casting concludes.
-
Quality - We want auditions to be high-quality, with little to no background noise if possible. Unless asked for, please don't filter your voice for normal roles, we will do that ourselves later.
-
Passion - We ideally want those who are passionate to work and be part of an indie video game.
-
Energy and Gusto - Half of the voice lines required will be in-combat grunts of pain and effort, and so we find the most value in the auditions that show us that they aren't afraid to show us they can shout and show some gusto.
-
Willingness to Retry - It's inevitable that some lines might get delivered different to our vision sometimes, and that's fine! However, we may ask you sometimes to retry some lines if we feel they didn't land quite right. Don't worry though, we won't hound you!
-
Cartoonish Style - Shuttle Revolution's style is cel-shaded and cartoony. In that sense, we would ideally prefer voices that would be suited to anime/cartoon media.
-
Future Availability - We ask that all those that audition are willing for possible future appearances later down the line in development, as we plan for this project to go further than just 2022.
SCHEDULE
The game is planned to release on Steam in Fall 2022. As such, our casting call will last for around a month to gather up the best talent, at which time we will pick the best audition for each role.
Keep in mind, however, that we may choose not to select anyone for a given role at all in the case we don't feel like we have discovered the best fit for that character.
The deadline is August 10th, where us at Head Empty will go through each submission and decide on the winners. Each of the winners will be contacted immediately after via Discord and we will communicate the process through with you from there.
PAYMENT
All payment will be handled via Paypal after all deliverables have been finalised and submitted to us. If we discover a more convenient solution later then we will consider alternatives.

The Shuttle Revolution main protagonist! Sponsored by no one for the badminton championship, Dan is training endlessly to become champion with the help of Esme to try and take down his devilish step-brother, Hunter.
Not strict guidelines, but examples of Dan's voice could resemble the nature of: Luke (Street Fighter 6), Yuji Itadori (Jujutsu Kaisen), and Goku (Dragonball Z).
Dan's personality involves three things; eating, working out, and hitting things really hard. He is often such a lazy and air headed goofball that he often comes across as obtuse or rude to others. However, when he sees a pretty girl, or a chance to prove his strength to someone, he flares up with an unfound dedication to show off. Though many of these attempts backfire horrifically, he can’t help but keep trying!
[Context: In-combat grunts and effort sounds that accompany the gameplay. Feel free to improvise!]
Hup! / Hmh! (jumping)
Hyargh! / Rargh! / Oriyah! (hitting the shuttlecock)
Yeow! / Oof! / Agh! (getting hurt)
[Context: Initiating their super move, striking the ball with a godlike swing. Make it intense and hype!]
“I’m ending this!”
“Here it comes!”
“I’m going all out!”
[Context: Win Quote after beating an opponent]
“HAHA! Yes! Wooooo! I did it! J-just…uh…give me a minute. (in pain from effort)”
“You’re a natural with a racquet, bro. You really are. But… c-can we just set aside our differences for a moment? How about a beef bowl… like old times?”
Hunter is the known grand champion of the badminton scene and direct rival to the protagonist, Dan. He holds multiple medals and awards to his name, which he gloats about to no end. His right arm is fitted with a grapple hook gauntlet which he uses to trick his opponents.
Not strict guidelines, but examples of Hunter's voice could resemble the nature of: Sol Badguy (Guilty Gear), and the villainous voices of Norio Wakamoto.
Hunter's personality is extremely cocky and narcissistic. He adores his status and innate talents, and so does the crowd. Feel free to sound conniving and smarmy.
[Context: In-combat grunts and effort sounds that accompany the gameplay. Feel free to improvise!]
Hup! / Hmh! (jumping)
Hyargh! / Rargh! / Oriyah! (hitting the shuttlecock)
Yeow! / Oof! / Agh! (getting hurt)
[Context: Initiating their super move, where they snatch the shuttle from mid-air. Make it intense and hype!]
“Yahooooooooo!”
“You ready for thisss!?”
“Geeet reaaddy!!”
[Context: Win Quote after beating an opponent]
“Like my arm, little lady? Custom made. (braggy tone)”
“Damn, that’s actually a pretty good fake. Hmm… how about you be my stuntman for TV!? The pay is fantastic! …Yeah!”
Raket is a spunky teenage inventor, born to late parents. She lives mostly alone in the center of Euron, in the slums beneath the Sector A overpass - a hive of trash and scrap. Tangles of long cable bounce, bob and spark above the graffiti-ridden mish mash of streets below, where poor families lurk and punk teenagers tag walls and rollerblade down to the skatepark to practice their daily grinds.
Not strict guidelines, but examples of Raket's voice could resemble the nature of: Ed (Cowboy Bebop), and Mei Hatsume (My Hero Academia).
Raket's personality is that of an extremely excitable and passionate teenage genius... but also very naïve.
[Context: In-combat grunts and effort sounds that accompany the gameplay. Feel free to improvise!]
Hup! / Hmh! (jumping)
Hyargh! / Rargh! / Oriyah! (hitting the shuttlecock)
Yeow! / Oof! / Agh! (getting hurt)
[Context: Initiating their super move, where they throw a plethora of inventions on the field. Make it intense and hype!]
“Take these! And this! Andthisandthisandthisandthisss!!” (speaks faster and faster)
“Go, the fruits of my labor!”
“Spoiled for choice!?”
[Context: Win Quote after beating an opponent]
“I’m so sorry! I didn’t even mean to win! I-I just… -does anyone want some fireworks? Ten ninety-nine for two?!"
“Woah! (amazement) That gun… and that hammer! That’s some serious craftsmanship! Take me to your leader! (said jokingly in an alien voice) Hehe.”
After being forcefully put out of her job as a clown by the notorious entrepreneur REDACTED due to being an “eyesore” for the streets of Euron, Bonkers was banished from her circus in Sector C. She now pursues a warpath to find REDACTED.
Not strict guidelines, but examples of Bonkers' voice could resemble the nature of: Baiken (Guilty Gear -Strive- [English]), Haruko (FLCL), and Noi (Dorohedoro).
Bonkers is a tomboy with an attitude - an attitude interlaced with clown jokes and dark humour. Once she gets an idea in her head, she gets it done no matter what, often to the detriment of others and sometimes even herself.
[Context: In-combat grunts and effort sounds that accompany the gameplay. Feel free to improvise!]
Hyup! / Hup! / Hmh! (jumping)
Hyargh! / Rargh! / Oriyah! (hitting the shuttlecock)
Yeow! / Oof! / Agh! (getting hurt)
[Context: Initiating their super move, where they inflate into a bouncy balloon. Make it intense and hype!]
“C’mon, hit me!” (goading)
“Right back at ya!"
“Hee hee haa haa haaa!”
[Context: Win Quote after beating an opponent]
“Get a shower. You smell like motor oil." (deadpan delivery, unimpressed)
“Alright, trooper. Gonna have to take you to a hospital after that one. Sure you aren’t feeling FUNNY? (clown joke) Heh.”
Esme ("ezz-may") is a contracted psychic agent from an unknown organization of the future which is but a few years away from their world’s collapse. She wields an array of floating purple racquets of psychic energy when she competes in the court.
Not strict guidelines, but examples of Esme's voice could resemble the nature of: Raven (DC), Mandy (Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy), and Sucy (Little Witch Academia).
Esme's personality is calm and collected. She rarely raises her voice, and speaks only after careful consideration of her words. She is a dedicated young lady, and very committed to the mission at hand. Nevertheless, at rare times her dry humour does tend to slip out.
[Context: In-combat grunts and effort sounds that accompany the gameplay. Feel free to improvise!]
Hup! / Hmh! (jumping)
Hyargh! / Rargh! / Oriyah! (hitting the shuttlecock)
Yeow! / Oof! / Agh! (getting hurt)
[Context: Initiating their super move, where they stop time. Make it intense and hype!]
“Puttin’ you on hold. (sassy and in a smug joking way)”
“Silence. (unfeeling and direct)”
“Temporal blast!”
[Context: Win Quote after beating an opponent]
“Disappointing. Maybe if you stopped spending your free time sleeping you might have been able to make me break a sweat. Get up.”
“This is bad. HQ, it’s Esme. The operation is compromised. Making a tactical retreat.”
Ray (n.b) is a young high-schooler. They attended school normally, behaved suitably, and achieved average grades without a hitch. However, Ray passed through their younger days unknown, and struggled to find any friends. That was until they came upon an urn of ghastly spirits that became their family, one of which was their guardian spirit and former ancient badminton champion, Teka.
Not strict guidelines, but examples of Ray's voice could resemble the nature of: Near (Death Note), and Ray (Promised Neverland).
Ray's personality is timid and quiet, but when they do speak it's often concerned for the others around them. They are a non-binary character, and so their voice should be androgynous - but with a hint of mystery.
[Context: In-combat grunts and effort sounds that accompany the gameplay. Feel free to improvise!]
Hup! / Hmh! (jumping)
Umph! / Hya! / Hagh! (hitting the shuttlecock)
Yeow! / Oof! / Agh! (getting hurt)
[Context: Initiating their super move, where they violently transfer into the body of Teka. Make it intense and hype!]
“Soul transfer!”
“Assimilation!”
“Awaken!”
[Context: Win Quote after beating an opponent]
“You…look like a nice kid. Stay away from us, p-please." (emotional, pushing away people because their power isn’t normal)
“This power… won’t it get us into trouble, Teka?” (concerned)
Teka ("tek-uh") is the long dormant spirit of the greatest ancient badminton champion to have ever lived. Ever since Ray discovered the burial urn that Teka lies within, him and his ghostly cohort took a liking to the kid, and have begun to foster a protective relationship over them. Teka, taking the role of their guardian spirit, helps assist Ray as they perform on the world stage.
Not strict guidelines, but examples of Teka's voice could resemble the nature of: Doomfist (Overwatch), Iron Tager (Blazblue [English]), and Vaseraga (Granblue Fantasy Versus).
Teka's personality is that of a powerful god. He fights with honour, and takes great pride in facing strong opponents. But not too kindly to those he finds "lacking".
[Context: In-combat grunts and effort sounds that accompany the gameplay. Feel free to improvise!]
Hup! / Hmh! (jumping)
HEEYARGH! / ROAGHR! / ORIYAHH! (hitting the shuttlecock)
Yeow! / Oof! / Agh! (getting hurt)
[Context: Win Quote after beating an opponent]
“You display marvellous strength! Haha! Let us go one more time!” (proud and enthusiastic)
“You made some good decisions. But, waking up today was not one of them.”
“Those... 'toys'... are a disgrace to the sport of badminton, Raket.”
Radio Head is the famed shoutcaster for the badminton world tournament, acting as a constant narrator and hype-man for the matches (and gameplay). He has a voice that grinds with feedback like a radio, and speaks with such energy that people question where he gets it all from. Is he even human?
Not strict guidelines, but examples of Radio Head's voice could resemble the nature of: Present Mic (My Hero Academia), Claptrap (Borderlands), and ADAM (SK8 The Infinity [English]).
Radio Head's personality is wacky and energetic for his commentary, though his identity remains mysterious and unknown. Some of his inflections often have dark undertones that quickly vanish, with him adjusting back to his standard happy-go-lucky attitude shortly after.
(We will allow "radio" effects for this audition if you fancy, though please include those edited versions as a supplement at the end rather than replace the raw audio)
[Context: Character Select screen quips]
“Prepare yourselves! Our next victims approach...”
“Two bold badmintoneers enter, but who will be left to tell the tale?”
“Now, who will bless the courts today?"
[Context: Miscellaneous]
“What!? How boring can you be!?”
“Another fantastic game at the badminton world tournament, and it only gets better ladies and gentlemen. Stay tuned.”
“A brilliant display. But obviously, I could still… y’know. W-why are you looking at me like that..?”
