SHELL - A Limited Sci-Fi Audiodrama
Project Overview
Earth is empty. A decades-long war forced humanity to flee the planet, abandoning it to the creatures they created. Colonies mine minerals and water as they travel the solar system, colonizing planetoids and moons. But the war may have followed humanity to the stars...
Follow a group of space miners in their fight to survive, with only their wits and powered armor to protect them from the vacuum of space, pirates and each other.
I’m excited for the chance to work with you! I’m a writer, voice actor and podcaster, and I’m thrilled to share one of my pet projects with you.
SHELL is an original, fully-casted, produced and scored short story, told in audiobook style (take a listen to the concept episode linked above to get an idea of how the project will sound!). The project contains depictions of violence, and language consistent with PG-13 films.
What You Should Know
Your Audition
Please record in AABBCC style, submitted as WAV files. And, yes, you can certainly audition for multiple roles. Label your file as FirstName_LastName_Role.wav. Please include your Discord name in your audition notes, as well as what mic and software you’ll be using for recordings. Feel free to include any notes on your creative decisions (limit 1-2 lines).
Your Work
If selected, you will be expected be a team player, a friend, and a good human throughout production. We’ll also be operating on a US-centric timezone schedule, so anywhere from PDT to EDT will be best adapted for this project. This project is unpaid, but as my collaborators know, I’m not afraid of plugging those that work with me by way of recommendations, and continuing work with them in the future.
This project will be vocally intensive and character driven, including various screams and emotionally intense character moments.
Lastly, all may audition regardless of background, but precedence will be given to those applicants who match the character’s demographics.

A mid-to-lower register with a bit of rasp.
Misha is calculating, quick and lethal. She’s down to earth, a no-nonsense type rather than sultry. has worked long and hard to be where she is: the top of the mountain, the crème de la crème. As a communications specialist, she knows many languages. (Slight Chinese accent, fluent in Chinese language preferred) An Asian-American is preferred for the role.
(Concerned but level, trying to work the problem, talking to the pilot seated next to her)
I’m getting nothing on comms. Can someone get me something?—I’m flying deaf and blind.
(Snide, teasing)
Wait… you two are sleeping together? (Laughs) I would have never thought!
(Direct, tell ‘em where to go and how fast)
Don’t bother. If I needed your help, I would have asked. Get out of my face.
Kirk is a jovial, energetic man, his large size perfectly matches his huge heart. His love of food and how it brings people together has been the focal point of his personal mission while traversing space. A devout Muslim, London-born-and-raised.
(Teasing, vigor for life)
I said *I* would enjoy it! I never said YOU would! Honestly, you call yourself the Comms Specialist! (Hearty laughter)
(Terror)
I didn’t ask to be tossed to the wolves, I just want to get back home! Get us out of here—get me out of here!
(Contemplative, then floundering)
I suppose I don’t let the vacuum get to me. Cuz I fill it with something better. Or something. Oh, God, that sounds like an innuendo—Aw, dammit, I ruined the moment, didn’t I?
ATLAS is an AI with a much bigger brain than Siri or Alexa (no big feat), but secretly has a bit of personality. Think of ATLAS as a combination of vibes from Batman’s Alfred, and MCU Tony Stark’s Friday. ATLAS is quietly witty, and will reveal personality only to those that show respect or kindness.
NOTE: ATLAS has customizable voice settings. Please provide three takes, in AA-BB-CC format, with a General American accent and two others of your choice.
(Friendly, low energy)
Good morning. You have one new assignment for the morning, at ten-hundred hours: reconnaissance. Your SHELL is charged and ready to deploy. I can report two members of the crew already waiting at Freighter Two on Loading Deck Two of the Cargo Bay.
(monotone, quietly, as if to simulate a whisper)
There is nothing on SPADAR, Ruby. I can contact the Zandabar for support, if you wish?
(Urgently but not panicked, shouting over the noise of the roaring thrusters of the freighter)
Incoming ballistics. You have a clear path to the Zandabar, but cover is limited. Take evasive action.
Medium to high register, clear voice.
Ruby uses her wiles to see if the people around her are a threat. She truly is compassionate, a bright light in a dark room, but her past has taught her that she’s better keeping significant relationships out of arm’s length. Latin-American is preferred for the role.
(On high alert, mounting confusion)
Hold on. We’ve got movement. Two klicks port side. We’re supposed to be the only ones out here.
(Flirty, seeking a reaction)
You can take the stick if you want. Aw, there’s no reason to turn so red, Eric! (Laughs, relishing the victory)
(Reassuring, vulnerable)
Look, I don’t go in and out of relationships for my health. Honestly, I’m jealous of you for that. You don’t need someone else to be happy. Me? I guess I… need someone. You know?
Low-register, booming, light rasp
Ivan is a warm, fun, inviting island sitting over a bottled volcano; a teddy bear holding back a grizzly. He’s covered in scars for fighting off the Mutant Coalition on the European Front on Earth, a strong and capable fighter whose kindness has never been hardened from war. Think Grog from Critical Role, but with 12 INT. He wants nothing more than to help his friends achieve their goals. He’s loyal and kind, and ferocious when crossed, but only when his friends are in danger. He has a Russian/Slavic accent.
(With authority, urgent)
You two, stay here and don’t let anything through the doors. You and Kirk, on me. We’re cutting a hole through their ranks.
(Warm, mischief, big himbo vibes)
Honestly, I had no idea she’d be here, friend! I had nothing to do with arranging her exchange onto the crew!
(With venom)
I trusted you! The crew trusted you, and you threw it away! Burn in hellfire, then!
Dunham is a guy that’s in a place he doesn’t want to be. He pictures himself being the captain of his own starship, but got stuck in navigation. He’s skilled at his job, but missed some things in his three-and-a-half walks around the block. Portrayal notes: Eric oscillates between a razor sharp wit, and a facade of complete, apathetic boredom. His chief flaw is envy.

(Bored, doing the bare minimum; waiting for your shot while stuck in a dead-end job)Leveled and slowing. One-G thrust, should reach anterior orbit of Jupiter in the next three days.
(Feigning playful, but still targeted, a challenge; alternatively deadpan)How good is this source of yours, Captain? Didja leverage your connections with the Admirals? Or do they even know?
(Someone is stealing your limelight, your shot to impress the captain)You picked up a flash in dead space? (Laughs, quickly cuts off under the captain’s glare) There’s no starship presence on SPADAR, captain! A flash is practically impossible!
You’ll be helping me identify common tropes within the science-fiction genre, and crafting powerful story moments that flip the script. If you’re a fan of “The Expanse,” Post-Apocalypse, or Halo, this is your project.

Bringing together the SFX, dialogue, narration and score; an extensive audio SFX library is preferred, priority casting to those with science fiction effects. I’m interested in using sound to help the listener recognize locations as well as characters: one character’s armor might sound different than another’s. Please include a link to your portfolio, and include your discord handle when you submit.
