Second Chances for Sora (2020 Digimon Fanfiction Audio Drama Remake)
Project Overview
Back in 2008, I made a Digimon fanfiction audio drama, with several people who now have made a name for themselves. I felt very proud that they've gone on to do great things. But now it's time for a new generation of voice actors to step in. I regretted not finishing the whole thing at the beginning, but this time... I intend to finish what I started, while changing things up from the 2008 original. As for the project itself...
It's a fanfiction based on both the first (Digimon Adventure) and the second series (Digimon Adventure 02). The fanfiction itself is a romantic drama with adventure elements. Here's the quick summary:
"A big adventure begins when the Digidestined discover a double of Sora in the Digital World! While she tries to pursue a romantic relationship with Tai, they suspect that she's concealing some dark secrets..."
- Summary of story by Whose Liner from Fanfiction.net
The original fanfiction can be read here: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/998979/1/Second-Chances-For-Sora
REQUIREMENTS
Please note that some of these characters (especially the main ones) are recurring. I will expect commitment... and patience. Those who have auditioned may be considered as a role you have not auditioned for or extras (students, people, Digimon, etc.). You may also let me know if you wish to be an extra or the extra role as well as your current role. Regarding critiques, I will be prompt at handing them out at your request. You can ask me. 'I don't bite... hard.'
Even though it's a fan project for fun (and as such, won't have a budget), significant level of technical and performance quality is going to be expected. Please ensure that your microphone is capable of recording your performance without picking up overwhelming background noises or excessive peaking/clipping.

Good morning, everyone. I'm so amazed at how many of you chose to audition for something I have done in 2008! You have me sweating... Of course, the decision to cast lies on me, and it's never easy. I'm letting everyone know that reads this that this is the one-week warning. I have everything prepared, including a Discord server for the project. For those who are planning to audition, you have this week to get them in! Good luck to all!

Auditions for "Kari's Missing Hope" are also considered here
Those who have auditioned for "Kari's Missing Hope", particularly for T.K. and Kari, are considered for this project as well. You're more than welcome to audition for both.
Tai is energetic and adventurous. He is also acts impulsively and rushes without thinking the consequences, especially when his friends are in danger but is quick to realize and admit he has been wrong, and does whatever it takes to fix his mistakes. Despite his flaws, Tai is very caring and considerate of others, even if his actions may cause some people to think otherwise. It takes time for him to learn how to be a leader, but eventually he grows into the unifying force that leads all the other DigiDestined and keeps them together. As a teenager, Tai acts like the mellow and experienced mentor to the new Digidestined. He is less brash but still easygoing.
Holder of the Crest of Courage.
My benchmark for Tai is that of the performance of one Joshua Seth. Kieran Flitton (before his fame and fortune) did a masterful job portraying him, so the bar on Tai is pretty high.
(introducing self and giving opinions of other Digidestined minus Kari) "Oh, by the way, my name's Tai. This is Sora. She's okay... for a girl. And Matt—Matt's too cool. Just look at that haircut. And this little kid is Izzy. He should have gone to computer camp. That's Mimi. I'll bet you can guess her favorite color on the first try! T.K. is Matt's dopey little brother. Oh, and this is Joe. But don't ever scare him; he'd probably wet his pants."
(asking Sora out) (hesitant): "So, um, Sora, you goin' to the concert with anybody? I mean, not that it matters to me...just wondering."
(had a nightmare and still suffering after losing Sora to Matt) (muttering incoherency) "She always used to be everything to me...she meant everything and anything to me and I forgot...and I forgot to let her know..."
Sora is kind, responsible, caring and protective with her first instinct being to try and help others in any way she can, much like a mother. Sora will not turn someone down when they need help, even at the cost of her own well-being. As a preteen, she is a bit tomboyish, from the way she dresses to her hobbies. She starts out low self esteem, believing herself to be unloved and criticizing herself for not being able to help her friends. Throughout her adventures in the Digital World, Sora realizes that she is loved and realizes how appreciated she is thanks to her friends. She eventually embraces her femininity, and is much more confident and laid back as a teenager.
Holder of the Crest of Love
While I'm seeking someone who can replicate Colleen O'Shaughnessey's performance, I'm also expecting to make it her own, too. Amber Lee Connors (before her fame and fortune) managed to do it, so I'm expecting greatness.
(saw Andromon friendly, but then quickly panics when grabbed by the leg) "He looks friendly enough. And I'm sure if we're nice to him, he'll be nice to us...! Forget what I said about him being friendly!!"
(rejecting Tai for Matt) (taking a deep breath) "No, I wanna be available in case Matt is free afterwards. Eh, heh..."
(her double explaining her story to Izzy) "“About four years ago, I was in summer camp. But some...huge force pulled me and six of my friends here, to this place called the ‘Digital World’. We were given something called a ‘digivice’ and we kept exploring this world until we found this gigantic upside-down pyramid. Two creeps named Etemon and Datamon lived here and they kidnapped me.”"
Matt starts as a secretive loner with a cool demeanor. He is mature, thoughtful and level-headed, and more likely to think things through than charge head-on. He is a deeply caring person who will do anything for a friend and is very protective of his loved ones. He is prone to second-guessing and self-deprecation when he cannot protect others—his self-worth hinges on his ability to be a good friend. Unlike Tai, who is more willing to look at the "big picture", sometimes to the detriment of his friends, Matt always tries to focus on the good of his small circle of friends. As a teenager, he is more laid-back and easygoing and is more willing to support his friends risking themselves against enemy Digimon. However, he still reacts strongly when his friends are under pressure, such as when the news depicted the team's Digimon as monsters, and Tai became reluctant to defend their reputation due to fears about possible casualties. He is also a good singer.
Holder of the Crest of Friendship.
While I'm looking for a replication of that of Michael Reisz or Nicolas Roye (see tri. and Last Evolution Kizuna), I'm also seeking someone to make Matt his own. Kieran Flitton did yet another masterful job at doing that, so my bar is pretty high for Matt.
(taunting Seadramon without a hint of subtlety) "Hey! Over here, you overgrown water-lizard!"
(trying to come up with a solution regarding Gotsumon) "Listen, T.K., just because I have a rock band doesn't mean I can hide a band of rocks that happen to be Digimon."
(echoing the advice from Gabumon) "Tai...I know pretty well who you are at heart... I'm sure that the choice you make will be the right one."
Izzy is a computer expert and spends a large fraction of his time trying to figure stuff out on his "PiBook" laptop. He is very intelligent and knowledgeable, and often gets lost in thought while trying to figure out something new. He is extremely curious about the nature of the Digital World, and works ceaselessly to learn whatever there is to know about it. He is resourceful and dutiful, and quick to help his friends. He is somewhat socially awkward, even as a teenager when he is more confident in his ability.
Holder of the Crest of Knowledge.
Gender doesn't matter here, but I am looking for someone who can do boy voices just as good as Mona Marshall and the person who did Izzy well in my original project back in 2008.
(super-excited over a high-powered battery source) "A battery like that could run my computer forever!"
(distracted by fun... sometimes) "I was just about to send Tai an answer when the battery ran out on my computer. I knew I should've recharged it after I played Trigonometry Trivia on the internet last night, but boy, talk about fun."
(a long and incoherent explanation about the appearance of the second Sora) “If you want my personal opinion, then the truth is...my mental acquisitiveness - however immense - has categorically been piqued, but not complacent. I haven’t aggregated a sufficient abundance of erudition to warrant a circumspect denouement...much less an elucidation, preferably comprehensive and coherent.”
Being raised in a sheltered life, Mimi comes off as prissy, spoiled and selfish. Underneath it all, she is actually a very sweet, purehearted and caring person, who is sensitive to the feelings of others and dislikes fighting. Mimi is also honest, sometimes brutally honest to the point where she unintentionally hurts others. She is very ditzy, and has a rather wild imagination. Through her adventures in the Digital World, she learns that sometimes fighting is necessary to protect the ones she loves, and becomes more confident and resilient. As a teenager, Mimi has shed most of her spoiled mannerisms, and is very confident and upbeat.
Holder of the Crest of Sincerity.
I am actually going to be very picky about Mimi, especially since I looked up to three people who did her really well... Philece Sampler, Melissa Sternenberg (in the 2008 original) and Kate Higgins. I'm going to be excited when I hear the prissy yet upbeat attitude that she possesses.
(telling Matt about a broken compass) "I thought it might be kind of fun to see how far we could get without one. Besides, it's broken."
(commenting how easy it will be to destroy a Control Spire) "No problem! I've been living in New York! Compared to getting a taxi, that should be a piece of cake."
(after Izzy advised her to be careful about the second Sora) "Thank you, I will. But don't go accusing her of anything until you have proof! Now, since just about everybody else has left, I'm going home, too. Later, boys!"
At a glance, Joe appears to be a nervous wreck, panicking over little things (in the dub, he has a tendency to feel "allergic" to everything around him). This stems from Joe's strong sense of responsibility, in addition to being the oldest of the group. He acts as the voice of reason and tries, often without success, to steer the other DigiDestined away from danger and tries to find a safer way. His "safety first" attitude is often the source of teasing from others specially Gomamon, who teases him the most but all the DigiDestined respect and trust Joe for being reliable. His reliability is shown whenever Joe will not hesitate to put his life over the others (for example, he saves T.K. from drowning). Teasing aside, the DigiDestined respect and trust Joe because they know he can be relied on to be selfless and brave when problems arise. During the time the Infected Digimon start showing up, Joe is struggling in school, leading him to focus on studying more than on assisting the team. This anxiety builds until Joe is confronted by Gomamon, who, feeling unable to help, leaves Joe, causing Joe to reevaluate his priorities and make up with Gomamon.
Joe is very intelligent and has practical knowledge of first aid and astronomy. He is also extremely clumsy, and often finds himself falling on his face or dropping things. He eventually becomes much more mellow and level-headed, though the clumsiness remains. Joe is the youngest brother of his family, who follow a strong tradition of being doctors.
Holder of the Crest of Reliability.
Bryan Previte did a nice job on Joe, so I'm looking forward for his emulation on Joe. But I'm OK with some imitations akin to the late Michael Lindsay or the more recent Robbie Daymond.
(Joe can't take charge and becomes a wreck) "Stop it now! You're both making me a nervous wreck! Just give me a chance to think. Don't be difficult."
(recalling his time in the Digital World) "I know exactly what you're feeling. I used to feel that way, too, but I thought it was nausea. And then I slowly began to realize something. All of us are here for a reason. There's a big picture that we can't see yet, and I don't mean a wide screen TV. So, us staying behind is for a reason."
(a slight joke on what Joe was back then) "Keep in mind that back then I used to be a nervous hypochondriac."
An original DigiDestined from Digimon Adventure and is the younger brother of Matt. Holder of the Crest of Hope. Usually happy and a bit calculating, T.K. can be very serious and angry, especially considering that he bears the responsibility of protect the Digital World and others as well. He is rather optimistic, and always tries to keep a smile on his face.
Unlike "Kari's Missing Hope", T.K. is not the lead male, so while I'm not necessarily seeking a mimicking performance from Doug Erholtz or Johnny Yong Bosch, I'm also looking for something akin to how Charles Larue portrayed T.K. back in the 2008 original.
(observing that his group must cross a section to reach a Control Spire) "Now I know what Matt means when he says I'm walking on thin ice."
(loves that Joe is stepping up) "Boy, leave it to you! Good old reliable Joe!"
(worried about Tai's state of mind) "Yeah...it's starting to worry me, too. Tai's been like a second big brother to me. Don't get me wrong...I mean, Matt's a great guy and terrific brother, but him and Sora getting together seemed pretty unlikely. I really thought that Sora would go for Tai."
An original DigiDestined from Digimon Adventure and is the younger sister of Tai. Holder of the Crest of Light. Keeping things bottled up, Kari has a kind and friendly personality, but lacks self-confidence. She always looking for the best side of people and doesn't fight but can be serious in drastic situations. Kari is also selfless, as she would put the safety of others before her own and doesn't want to trouble others.
Unlike "Kari's Missing Hope", she is not the lead this time. While I am not looking for someone to necessarily need to mimic Lara Jill Miller nor Tara Sands, I'm also seeking someone who can pull off what Nancy Situ did in the 2008 original.
(commenting on her relationship with Tai) "Tai does bug me sometimes, but he is the coolest big brother in the world."
(after escaping the Dark Ocean) "Hey, T.K., remember this morning when you said you really cared for me? What did you mean by that?" (pauses) "Well, you know what? I care for you too."
(upset over the problem Tai has regarding his loss of Sora) "I can't take it easy! My brother has ALWAYS been there for Sora AND me whenever I needed him! I love my brother so much...I don't think I could bear it if something bad happened to him."
[Unpaid, but may reconsider based on quality]
I’m currently seeking an artist to make individual cover arts for the episodes for this project.
It’s a very lax workspace and no real deadlines, and the benefit of establishing friendships. And it can help boost your portfolio.
Any interested parties should leave a link to their portfolio (Tumblr, Deviantart, etc.).
