Project SBR - Round 3
Project Overview
Welcome to the Casting Call for volumes three through six of Steel Ball Run.
Here are some important things to keep in mind:
- You are free to audition for multiple roles.
- Each audition can have up to three takes for one line.
- If you get a non-lead role, you're free to audition for future roles.
- It would be helpful to write contact information in your audition.

For many, Funny Valentine is one of the most critical characters towards their appreciation of Steel Ball Run. With this it is important that we cast a Voice Actor who can capture the maturity and complexity of his character. We're looking for someone who can capture his professionalism along side his more selfish behavior. With this all said, President Valentine should be a bit more than an intimidating deep voice.
This role will have callbacks via Discord.
(Volume 18, Chapter 69 & 70) A sponge and another sponge overlapping... So the gaps intersect with other gaps and the two become one. Allowing neighboring worlds to exist simultaneously in the same location. That is my stand ability, "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap."
(Volume 19, Chapter 73) How terrible.. So your face has been stung by bees? Those should be treated... Let me see them. Actually I have a way to make them go away. That really is what must be done for such terrible swelling. Would you mind taking one step inward? Yes, yes. Just one step inward. If you could... please step backward and to the left as well. That would be even better. A bit more left... There, perfect. DOJYA~~~N (or "TADA~~~") All gone.
(Volume 8, Chapter 36) The next Corpse Part is the spine! According to the map, his backbone is here somewhere! The central part of the human body! The most essential part! As long as we have it, the other parts will come on their own! We must retrieve it... We must!
Despite being a western, Steel Ball Run is devoid of your average cowboy. The exception to this is Mountain Tim. So in order to make Steel Ball Run feel more like a western and play into Mountain Tim's strengths, we're looking for a voice actor who can really ham up a thick macho western accent with as smooth of a delivery as melted butter. Have fun with these lines!

(Volume 3, Chapter 13) What's this fury I'm feeling all of a sudden? So such a thing was present during the race... Don't worry, feel at ease... I can't possibly win the race now.
(Volume 4, Chapter 18) Seems like I misunderstood my suspect... Johnny Joestar to whom does this magnetic force power belong? Tell me in detail... What exactly is going on here?!
(Volume 4, Chapter 22) S- Stop... Gy... ro... This explosion... DON'T COME CLOSER! GET AWAY FROM ME! He's hiding somewhere close by! He has a stand ability!
Mrs. Robinson is the first proper enemy Johnny and Gyro encounter. He is quite an oddball and very androgynous in appearance. His appearance in Steel Ball Run is extremely brief, so there are many different ways you can play the goth bug man.
(Volume 3, Chapter 14) To make myself unstoppable, I started to raise insects within myself... These 'insects' have completely surrounded all of you!
(Volume 3, Chapter 14) Now that I told you my secret, it's time to finish you off! TAKE THIS! I WILL NOT ALLOW ANYONE IN THIS RACE TO RUN AHEAD OF ME!
At first, Andre Boom Boom seems to be the runt of the Boom Boom family and by extension it seems that he's also the family punching bag. Despite his weak exterior, he is capable of conducting nasty behavior on par with his younger brother and father. Andre's performance should be full of youth and life in order to contrast his two family members. We will either go with a southern accent or a standard American accent. So try both!
(Volume 3, Chapter 15) D- Don't shoot! I mean no harm! I came here because I saw the fire! I was bitten! This is bad..! Real bad! I was squatting down and taking a dump, and my fingers were bit! Shit! Two fingers on my left hand!
(Volume 3, Chapter 16) Then I'll go dad! Those guys didn't give me some fire right away! I was this close from letting that lizard venom run through my whole body! I'm gonna get my revenge!
(Volume 3, Chapter 16) Eh? Haha! So you're throwing it differently this time? It's still the same... It'll never make it to me... IT WON'T REACH ME, YOU DUMBASS! I'LL CHARGE IN AND RIP YOUR GUTS OUT!
L.A. Boom Boom is the youngest of the Boom Boom family. Despite his family members, he seems to be the most innocent in a twisted sort of way. His appearance is extremely androgynous, so we will keep casting open to both men and women. We will either go with a southern accent or a standard American accent. So try both!
(Volume 3, Chapter 15) Is my bro Andre dead? Dad! Do you think big brother's really dead?
(Volume 3, Chapter 16) 1st place is dad. 2nd place is brother Andre. 3rd place is me. If we do a 1-2-3 finish... The total prize money will big! It'll be big when you add them all up!! ... Uh... How much do you get when you add them..?
(Volume 4, Chapter 19) There's no need to fund us or distance yourselves. The only direction you can go... Is closer to each other... Right Daddy? That's what Daddy said.
The father of the Boom Boom family. Of the three he is the most evil and malicious. This is brought forth through a lot of anger, so make sure to capitalize on that in your performance. Also side note: the Adam Sandler "SHADDUP" seems to be his catchphrase which is the funniest thing when you stop and think about it.

(Volume 3, Chapter 16) I told you to go to the other side of those guys. That was our plan. Go in from both sides, and that's the end of our plan! God, you're slow. Just like your mom... Just like that woman who left home and became a whore!
(Volume 3, Chapter 17) AAAAHHH! THOSE GUYS ARE GETTING AWAAAAY! I WON'T LET YOU RUN, YOU PIIIIGS!
(Volume 3, Chapter 17) Oh, here we go... our family's smartass made a comment... Who said we're gonna chase them? We'll let 'the guy behind us' chase Gyro Zeppeli and Johnny Joestar. He'll take care of them for us!
Gregorio is the father of Gyro. We get to see him at many points in his lifetime and the varying stages of his fatherly relationship of Gyro. Despite his brief appearances throughout Steel Ball Run, he is a complex character and it's important we can get someone to capture his range.
(Volume 4, Chapter 20) Every man needs a map... A map in his heart, to ride across the wilderness. Listen carefully. You're the eldest son of the Zeppeli house... You need to protect your family. True happiness is found within the family. Never forget that.
(Volume 4, Chapter 21) What you did is useless Gyro... It will only cause trouble for our country. Our family's duty is not to decide whether someone is innocent or guilty!
In Steel Ball Run, we get to see Gyro at many different ages throughout several backstories. While our VA for Gyro, Rectorious, is capable of hitting on his later teen years and onwards, it wouldn't be the best course of action to try and get him to sound like a child. That's why we're opening casting for a younger Gyro. Specifically for the ages of 9 and 13. It is critical that your performance can represent that of Rectorious when he voices Gyro.
(Volume 4, Chapter 20) Why father? What does the steel ball have to do with grandfather and great grandfather? (9 years old)
(Volume 4, Chapter 20) Job? Assistant? What are these buildings, father? F... Father..? (13 years old)
Oyecomova is a peculiar character. He is introduced as a terrorist from a far off country, but despite that he reveals odd mannerisms throughout his fight. Because of this, there is no wrong way to play this character. Although that being said, we definitely want to avoid a gruff macho voice. In regards to his accent, although it is known that he committed acts of terrorism in Naples, Italy, it is unknown if he is Italian. With this in mind, you are free to give him any accent you feel fits the character. Just know that an Italian accent is the safe bet.
(Volume 4, Chapter 21) How's your old man doing? I heard he retired from being an executioner Gyro Zeppeli... Taking responsibility for my jailbreak... That's understandable. He ought to feel responsible for his subordinate's death.
(Volume 4, Chapter 21) It's nice to politely explain all this... But I've already disabled Gyro's right hand... It's like a man deep in debt due to borrowing money from an underground loaner... Totally helpless.
(Volume 4, Chapter 22) You two are the same as mice trapped in a cage being burned by fire! You're out of options! There's nothing else you can do! You can't even breathe! I received a wonderful gift from God! AFTER I GET OUT OF THIS MOUNTAIN LAND, I'LL GO BACK AND KILL THE KING WITH THIS POWER!
As a director, I try not to let my own personal bias interfere with my choices for casting. But I can't in good conscious stay silent towards my hatred of this brat. I hate this kid. If it were up to me, I would cut him from the entire story of Steel Ball Run. But unfortunately for me, this gremlin is capable of speech. UGH. Just- Just get the audition over with quick. Please.
(Volume 5, Chapter 24) I... I made... The needle... Out of a fish's bone... And that was ripped off two days ago by a woman... It had fallen into the drainage...
(Volume ?, Chapter ??) I am a dumb stupid baby child. My contribution to the narrative could be done through narration alone, but apparently some moron thought it was a good idea to have me speak.
For those who may not remember, Stroheim is a callback character to Rudolph Von Stroheim from Part 2. His official dub voice is... a bit eccentric to say the least. So for this project we're looking to cast Stroheim as either a direct imitation of the official Stroheim VA from part 2 or as a calm and calculative threat.
(Volume 5, Chapter 25) The spin of the steel balls... It has the power to carve certain things and control certain body muscles.
(Volume 5, Chapter 25) Drop them! Gyro Zeppeli! Drop those from your hand now!
What's to be said about Wired Kid? He's a child with fishing hooks that come out of my mouth. He's definitely one of the weirder characters in JoJo, so by extension his performance should be melodramatic and over the top. OPTIONAL: Try giving him a lisp of some kind. He does have something in the back of his mouth after all.
(Volume 5, Chapter 26) And so... Jyawnee... What's his name? Jyawnee... Jyawnee Jyawshter. So, he's the one who has it... He's got it somewhere... He must be hiding it somewhere on his body... GACHANG!
(Volume 5, Chapter 26) THREE OF 'EM! THREE OF MY TEETH ARE BROKEN! PRRRRRR GACHANG! I wonder if teeth taste good? I bet you can't eat 'em...
(Volume 5, Chapter 26) But hey, this is fun! These guys are too fun!!
The narrator of Steel Ball Run is separate from the announcer of the in universe Steel Ball Run race. However, we are still unsure if we want to cast them to the same person. We are undecided on which direction we want to take this, so we may not even cast a separate Voice Actor or Voice Actress as the narrator. It wouldn't hurt to give it a shot.
(Volume 4, Chapter 20) When Gyro turned 13... His father said... "Today you come with me." For some reason, his mother kissed him in silence.
(Volume 5, Chapter 24) The Kingdom of Naples is located on the Italian Peninsula founded in the year 1302 A.D. The name of the present king is Dell'ovo III... The population is approximately 788,000... The land mass is 800 cubic kilometers... A very small country.
(Volume 5, Chapter 25) The map of Joseph of Arimathea... But nobody could understand that map. Nobody had ever seen shores with the shape of those drawn on it. A place that nobody had ever seen... A land that nobody knew...
There are several one off characters in Steel Ball Run. We cast these rolls on the fly to our team of Extra VAs. It's very difficult not to get this role. As an extra, you get the chance to help contribute to the project on your own terms. Working in the project as an extra will not hinder your chance at securing future rolls. In fact, the opposite actually applies.

Project SBR couldn't be made without our team of visual editors. As a visual editor, you get to sign up for whichever pages you want to bring to life. Simple as that. Our editors have around a week to work on their 3-5 page segments for whichever chapter we're working on. Project SBR is lacking in SFX Editors. Audio design is a critical aspect to the quality of our work since the human ear is more sensitive than the human eye. As an SFX Editor, you sign up for just as much work as you want to take on. Much like the visual editors. You will have to look through several libraries of sound effects in order to make the work of the visual editors really pop. Aside from being a fandub, Project SBR has some other outputs as well. So far we have made a fan made OP and ED. Alongside that we have several eye catches that need to be made as well. We are currently planning to create 2 more openings and 2 more endings. As an ACC, you'll not only help animate these, but you're also free to help direct the future OPs and EDs as well. I don't want to block any form of creative expression as I know this is the hardest job involved with the project.
