Our Precious Autumn - Short Film

Project Overview

Our Precious Autumn is a 20-25 minute emotional short film being produced by Studio Penrose. The production will utilize over a dozen body actors and production team members, and be filmed in Virtual Reality using motion capture/animation technology. We've named this genre Animotion!

The film follows Ami, a manga artist, who is burnt out and overworked at the manga studio that she works at. After a few sleep deprived nights, she stumbles back home, passing out and ending up in a dreamscape. Here, she encounters three situations that help her realize that she needs to make a change in her life.

The film is an emotional dive into the struggles of a creative artist and was written by a team of artists of all varieties. Filmmakers, artists, musicians, and writers. We want to tell our story in hopes that we can inspire change in those that are creatively burnt out.

Roles

There are currently 6 paid roles open for the film, with one role being for a main character, Ami, and the others being for supporting characters. Please look at the roles for details on each character.

The main character has about ~25 lines, with the supporting characters having anywhere from 5-15 lines.

Voice Acting Information
The voice acting in this film should be down to earth and as realistic as possible (for lack of a better phrase). Though the characters are 3D models/motion-captured I want to make sure that this film feels set in reality.

The voice lines will be recorded (referencing the storyboard) before filming will begin. Though we've worked with ADR in the past, we want the voice acting to be as unrestricted as possible due to this film being much more emotional than previous projects.

Microphone
Please have a quality microphone (USB/XLR microphone) with little to no background noise.

General Notes

You must be at least 18 years old to audition.

These roles will require being in a Discord call with the director and assistants. This will make it much more efficient to finish the lines and with the best performance! 

Please include your Discord username with your audition. If you have been selected for a role, we will reach out via Discord!

Payment

Payment will be made through PayPal or Venmo, once the lines have been recorded.

    Good evening!

    Hello everyone!

Ami is the main character of the film. She is a overworked, tired, and depressed manga artist who works for a manga studio that doesn't have her best interests in mind. Throughout the runtime of the film, she learns to understand herself and makes the realization that it's time to make a change. She is emotional, though she tries to hide it. She is meant to be a humanized character, someone who the audience can understand/relate to.

The voice actress for this role should be able to contain hidden emotion, as the main character does. They should also be able to hold back tears in lines and also cry, all while maintaining a realistic approach.

Ellie is Ami and Robin's coworker. She is seen in a few scenes where she and Robin try to cheer up a very tired and upset Ami. She also appears when Ami goes back in time to when she released her first manga. She's the more realistic one of the three, and is much more gentle. She's caring and supportive.

Ellie's voice actress should be sweet and caring, and have an almost soothing tone. Her voice should be a little lower in pitch, but not too much.

Robin is Ami and Ellie's coworker. She is seen in a few scenes where she and Ellie try to cheer up a very tired and upset Ami. She also appears when Ami goes back in time to when she released her first manga. She's very playful and energetic, however, she knows how to read the room and tone it down when necessary.

Robin's voice actress should be very playful in tone, but not over the top.

This role is the main character, Ami, when she was a child. In the film, Ami gets sent into a dreamscape where she meets her child self, who helps her remember the dreams that she once had. 

This role should be voiced as realistically as possible. Her child self is roughly 8-10 years old and her voice actress should be able to replicate this child voice without it seeming too over the top.
