What is this?
It's no secret that Pokemon: The First Movie's official dub by 4Kids was handled rather poorly--especially the script, which was changed so drastically, it barely resembles the original Japanese version. I'm sure many people have wondered what a version of the film would look like if it were re-dubbed with a better, more faithful script.
And that is exactly what this project aims to do.
The goal of this fandub is to re-dub the entire movie, from beginning to end (including The Birth of Mewtwo). The new script is based heavily on the Japanese version, with some of the best parts from the dubs from both Pokemon The First Movie and Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution. This won't be just a simple re-dub, either; the music and sound effects will also be mixed in, combining the best of both versions and creating a happy middle-ground that should please hardcore fans of Pokemon: The First Movie.
This project has been on my mind for many years, and during that time I have been working on the script, sound mixing, editing, and more, in preparation for this project. The thing that I need most, of course, is vocal talent. This is NOT a project that only one person can do, and I want for every single line in the film to be redubbed by voice actors and actresses, who can help bring this to life.
Requirements:Actors should be ready for several months of commitment. There are a LOT of lines in this project, since we will be dubbing the entire 100-minute movie, and we will need time to ensure that every single line is just right.
Actors will need high-quality microphones to allow for clean audio, with as little echoing as possible. The goal of this project is to try and make an alternate version of the film, that COULD have released in theaters in 1999. That means good mics.
The #1 rule I have is this: Have fun! When you audition, and if you are chosen, have fun with your lines! Considering this is a fandub, I'm sure most if not all of you who audition are fans of the original, just as I am. Let's do it justice, and make a great thing, together!
A few notes:1.) I'm not looking for 1-to-1 replacements to the original 4Kids cast. I simply want actors who are able to invoke the "spirit" of the characters they portray. I welcome multiple auditions per character--one of you trying to imitate the 4Kids cast, and one of you giving your own spin on the character.
2.) Since this is a fan project of a motion picture, I cannot offer money for your work. Nor, unfortunately, will I be able to post this on YouTube when it is done, for reasons that I hope are obvious. However, when the movie is done, I will be premiering it on our Discord server, after which I will be posting it on video hosting sites wherever I am able.
3.) Discord is not required, but it is recommended as we utilize it to organize group rehearsals, deliver announcements, and distribute the script (it's also been an incredibly useful tool for getting to know the people affiliated with the project and we've had a fair bit of fun with it). Once the cast has been chosen, Discord would be the easiest way to communicate with the various actors and get rehearsals and recordings set up, so that I can provide real-time feedback as lines get delivered. Again, Discord is not required, but IS strongly recommended.

I assume most people who are auditioning for this already know a lot about Ash. He's an energetic 10-year-old boy who loves Pokemon. He's determined to always do the right thing, and stop those who don't. This role would probably be easiest for someone capable of hitting the higher registers with their voice. I'm not looking for a 1-to-1 copy of Veronica Taylor's take on Ash, so feel free to try out with your own take on him. (contemplative; content) The day I left home to start my Pokemon journey, I saw a really rare Pokemon. And just now, I think I saw another one.
Misty is a 10-year-old girl who loves Pokemon. She is mainly responsible for keeping Ash in line, but she's also kind and spends most of her time taking care of her Pokemon, especially Togepi. Brock is the "big brother" of the group, making sure Ash and Misty behave. He also takes good care of his Pokemon, as it is his dream to become a Pokemon Breeder. Dr. Fuji is Ai's father, and the one who creates Mewtwo. He is a "mad scientist" character, obsessed with his work in the hopes that he can bring his daughter back from the dead. When Mewtwo is born, he is excited for the scientific possibilities, completely dismissing Mewtwo as just a successful experiment. (as if writing in a journal) August 6th. Today my colleagues and I found the site where an ancient civilization created a shrine to Mew--the most powerful Pokemon of all.
(trying to convince his wife) I'm on the verge of recreating her consciousness! All I need is one more breakthrough, and we'll have our daughter back with us once again!
(in horror) To create the world's most powerful Pokemon... That was our dream.
Giovanni is a mustache-twirling villain. He's a bad guy and LOVES being a bad guy. He takes control of Mewtwo for a brief time, before Mewtwo escapes.
You certainly are the most powerful Pokemon in the world. But... there are those who are stronger yet.
(sinister) Patience, my friend. All will soon become clear.

Ash Ketchum’s journey has taken him on many adventures. Together with his friends Misty and Brock, and of course his buddy Pikachu, Ash is as determined as ever to become a Pokémon Master. (chuckles) Well, maybe after eating lunch first.
The world of Pokémon, full of mysteries and legends, and the stories of those who dream of becoming Pokémon Trainers. As the journey continues, for a long time to come!
Nurse Joy was brainwashed by Mewtwo prior to the events of the movie. Halfway through, he releases his hold on her, and she regains her old self back. Actor must be able to evoke a wide range of emotion.
(monotonic) Greetings, Pokemon Trainers. I bear an invitation.
(as if waking up) Where am I? And how in the world did I get here?
(helpless) Living things won't give up their territory, to other members of their own species. They'll battle until one is defeated... till only one remains.
Officer Jenny is an officer. Her job is to keep Pokemon Trainers from going off on their own recklessly. She's stern in almost all her lines.
Please be quiet, everyone! We have the harbor manager here to explain the situation.
And besides, if you pulled that stunt and your Pokemon got hurt, you'd be out of luck, cuz we had to close down the Pokemon Center.
(calling) Get back here! Or I'll place you under arrest!
Miranda is the harbor master. She's here mostly to provide caution to the Pokemon Trainers who try to make it to New Island on their own.
I'm Miranda. If you wish to hear the will of the sea, listen to the harbor birds. But there is no need. Listen to these winds. I've never seen a hurricane like this in my life.
Some Trainers have no fear. They are Pokemon Trainers. They seek adventure. If they were people we could stop, they wouldn't have gathered here in the first place.
(relieved) It's good to have things clear again.
Raymond is the trainer who challenges Ash in the beginning of the movie.
Hey! You there! I'm looking for Ash Ketchum, who fought in the Pokemon League. That's you, right?

Neesha is one of the other trainers who is invited to Mewtwo's island.
(panicking) But I've got to get to New Island!
You haven't met my Pokemon yet. Over there!
(announcing) We'll blow them out of the water, won't we, Shellshocker!
Corey is one of the other trainers that is invited to Mewtwo's island.
I decided to fly here. It was easy. Hurricane winds are a breeze for Pidgeot here.
No matter what Pokemon you are, I can still catch you! Go, Rhyhorn!
Go, Bruteroot! Razor Leaf attack!
Fergus is another trainer who was invited to Mewtwo's island.
Those are MY Pokemon. It was no problem getting through that storm. I rode over on Gyarados' back.
A Pokemon can't be a Pokemon Trainer! No way!
(angry) We'll show you! Go, Gyarados! (yelling) Gyarados, Hyper Beam attack!
The scientists work under Dr. Fuji.
Mew... (suddenly surprised) What?
(calling to someone else) Alert Giovanni's helicopter! Tell him it's awake!
(overly pompous) Congratulations! Yes, congratulations!
Unlike the regular series, this fandub will make Pokemon have animalistic noises (except Pikachu, which will use stock audio of Ikue Ohtani). The goal is to make the various Pokemon sound close to their anime voices, without saying the actual Pokemon's names. There will be the need for a LOT of Pokemon noises so this will go to several actors, and will also be made available as bonus roles for actors who are chosen for other roles.
