OneShot - True Ending Fandub

OneShot - True Ending Fandub

Project Overview

Hey there everyone, thanks for checking out this casting call! This page is for a fandub of the true ending of the indie game OneShot, by Eliza Velasquez and NightMargin.
Be sure to check out the original: http://www.oneshot-game.com/
(NoteThis project and casting call will contain MAJOR spoilers for the game. Please play it before auditioning if you want to, I highly recommend it. It's currently on sale on Steam, and it's worth the price!)

What is OneShot?
SPOILER WARNING! This is your last chance!

OneShot is an indie game that takes place in a decaying world, where only Niko, the Messiah, can rescue it, by returning its Sun (a lightbulb) to the Tower. After traversing through three areas of the game, and meeting a whole cast of colourful characters, Niko is left with a difficult choice: save the world, or themself?

In the second playthrough of the game, Solstice, three new characters attempt to lead Niko to the happy ending there was originally supposed to be. Things don't go as planned at first, but with enough patience and dedication, they're able to save the once broken world.

How dedicated will I have to be?/What is the expected deadline?
As this is a dub of only one scene, you only have to dedicate yourself to one script! As much as I'd love to go over the entire game, I simply don't have the time or patience to be able to do it. But, I wanted to give it some love, so here we are.
The deadline will likely be three weeks, but I understand that people have lives and can be busy, so I'm flexible.

Aren't a few characters missing?

Yep! Unfortunately, the main character Niko, along with the World Machine (as they technically share a voice), and the Lamplighter were cast beforehand.

Any ground rules?
Just a few!
1. Have a means of communication outside of CCC! Anything works (Skype, Email, etc.) but Discord is preferable.
2. While I would like you to use the provided voice description for the characters, you are free to experiment with them! There are no canon voices for them, and it is all up to interpretation. Have fun with it, bring the characters to life!

And that's all! Happy auditioning!

Silver is a tamed robot, and the Head Engineer of the Barrens. She is mostly quiet, and keeps to herself. When discussing the end of the world, she looks at it very pessimistically, telling Niko not to bother with saving it. Though, when the time comes, she is able to step up, and help lead Niko to safety.

I imagine her with a fairly mid to low, and slightly monotone voice.

A robotic effect is optional, but if you do want to include it, please provide a take without it!

  • (Neutral) "The lightbulb...So, are you the 'Messiah'? I expected someone...taller. Or at least someone that doesn't look like a kitten."

  • (Slightly smug) "You...could've just asked." ... "Come on."

  • (In pain, distressed) "YOU! Robot! What are you waiting for?! Take the child and get out!"

Role assigned to: JohnnyGoggles

Rowbot is used near the beginning of the game to help Niko reach the second area, the Glen. As it is not tamed, it has little personality, and strictly follows its code. Though, there are several times where it seems pleased to get assistance from Niko, likely due to it being able to follow its code again.

There isn't a lot to go on when it comes to Rowbot's voice, but I can't imagine it being too high or low.

A robotic effect is optional, but if you do want to include it, please provide a take without it!

  • "...I...CAN MOVE AGAIN. THANK YOU!"

  • "OH! THIS IS THE AMBER FROM THE GLEN. I CAN REMEMBER NOW. ACTIVATING TRACKING SYSTEM..."

  • "DO NOT WORRY. THE HEAD ENGINEER CAN HELP ME."

Role assigned to: Lumisau

The older of the bird siblings in the Glen, Calamus is very protective and wary of the world around him, putting his sister Alula before all else. He is a very respectful boy, being very careful when speaking to Niko, and even quite anxious.

Calamus likely has a fairly mid-high voice, that sounds slightly timid.

  • (Timid) "Oh! Would it not be rude to call you by name?"

  • (Scolding, then confusion) "Alula! We're not dead! ...Wait, are we?"

  • (Down, reminiscing) "It's been years, but...it's still...hard, y'know? *Sigh*..."

Alula is the younger sister of Calamus, and as such, is very innocent, and excitable. She has tons of energy, and is always optimistic and cheery. Calamus has to constantly keep her out of trouble, as the more mature one.

As a young child, Alula has a very high pitched, and excitable voice.

  • (Happy) "You saved me! Thank you! I was trapped in there for so long..."

  • (Curious) "Are we in limboooooo?"

  • (Ecstatic, rambling) "MOM, YOU'RE NOT GONNA BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED TODAY, WE MET THE MESSIAH AND-"

Maize is a plant spirit who originally watched over the Glen, helping it to flourish. As the world starts to decay, so does she. When seen in the game, she is incredibly weak, and meets her end no matter which route you take. However, in one ending, it is possible to bring her back to life.

Maize's voice is likely very weak and frail, as if she's struggling to talk. I imagine she has a mid-high tone.

  • (Weak, happy) "It's okay...I'm not afraid anymore..."

  • (Stressed) "...That's right...the bridges...You...need to cross them on your pilgrimage...would you...like me to fix them? It's an undertaking...but, possible. I intend to use the last of my strength."

Prototype

Role assigned to: PeeJ

One of the three characters from the "original" world, Prototype is fairly cynical, and aloof. He's not the best at handling anything emotional, despite still being tamed. When explaining the truth of the world to Niko, he ends up making them very upset unintentionally, even stating he wishes Rue were there to do a better job than him.

I imagine Prototype has a slightly quiet, and low voice, that doesn't have quite as much emotion as the rest of the characters. Though, there is still a hint of it.

A robotic effect is optional, but if you do want to include it, please provide a take without it!

  • (Serious) "...It has already begun. Here. I am entrusting you with my main memory disk. You have passed the first test by showing me the book. Now, you will need to find a way to install the backup."

  • (Slightly desperate) "...No! ... You have to take this. This is where we part ways. When you're in the city, go find someone named Cedric. Give him the disk. Hurry!"

Cedric is the second of the characters from the original world, and the son of the Author. Similarly to Prototype, he's not the best at explanations, or handling emotions. However, he is shown as quite impulsive and determined, following his goals to the end, regardless of how much of a risk it may be to his own life.

Cedric likely has a fairly lower voice, that's a little on the quieter side.

  • (Awkward) "You...um...N-nice finally to meet you! ...No, wait. It is a pleasure to be of acquaintance at last, Niko."

  • (Grateful) "Niko...We are forever in your debt."

  • (Distressed) "Let go of me!! I need to go!"

Role assigned to: Terra

Rue is the third of the characters from the old world, and a dear friend of the Author. She is incredibly kind and caring, almost motherly to Prototype, Cedric and Niko. She's quite a mysterious fox, and, while she tells Niko quite a lot about the World Machine, she doesn't reveal much about herself.

Rue likely has a very soothing, and kind tone, with a more mid range voice.

  • (Joking, amused) "Haha, That's a tough question, Niko! I mean...do you like being a person?"

  • (Reminiscent, solemn) "You know...This is the tallest building in the Refuge. It's...my favourite place in this world."

  • (Hesitant) "...we should go. Even this place is no longer safe."

Extra Robots

Role assigned to: Combustal

During the credits sequence, there are two robots with only one shared line each. As such, their audition line will be sufficient, and I will not need the cast actor to record anything else.

They're quite large and bulky, and would likely have a fairly deep voice.

A robotic effect is optional, but if you do want to include it, please provide a take without it!

  • "Off you go, Messiah..."
