Character Bio
Not only is Nightmare the self-proclaimed King of Darkness, he’s also the God of Negativity and future Emperor of the Multiverse - that is, if he can destroy his fool of a brother, Dream, and those obnoxious starry-eyed allies of his. He’s cherry-picked some of the most powerful monsters in existence to serve under him, referred to simply as the Crew, in an effort to bring those ambitions to fruition and become ruler of all. Though still stern, ruthless, cold and calculating, he is not the unrelenting force of destruction he once was. Centuries of experience have granted him a small bit of wisdom to see past the senseless desire to corrupt without purpose. Instead, his focus now lies on building an empire of his own design, one which can thrive in darkness and negativity.
[Scene: Nightmare finds PLAYER in the Dimensional Gate room (first encounter)]
(enraged)
Who the hell are you?!
Answer me now, or you'll regret it.
[Scene: Nightmare has brought PLAYER to the dungeon as his captive]
(neutral)
Welcome to your new quarters, human.
Enjoy these accommodations whilst I contemplate how best to use that disgusting looking soul of yours to my advantage.
And behave yourself.
[Scene: PLAYER and Nightmare are stargazing on the castle balcony]
(wistful)
Look there - do you see the spaces between the stars?
The ribbon of darkness cutting through the edge of this galaxy like a deep river?
There is unparalleled beauty within that darkness, and beauty because of it.
Darkness allows the light of the stars and planets to shine so much brighter, lets their brilliance truly be seen.
Ideals for this voice:
- Baritone or baritenor
- North American/United States accent, but open to interpretation
Character Bio
Though he may be a skeleton, Killer can definitely be the life of the party! But don’t be fooled by his mischievous antics and smiling façade - Killer is Nightmare’s right hand assassin and commander of the Crew for a very good reason. He’s also the only one who gets away with calling Nightmare “boss” instead of “your majesty” or “sire”. His fighting skills are so far unmatched, and he is now well known across the Multiverse as a one skeleton army who can single-handedly lay waste to entire populations. His questionable hobbies include gambling, blackmail, “havin’ a real fun time!” and being an overall jerk to pretty much everyone who has to deal with him. Ironically, though he seems to get some sort of entertainment value out of making life difficult for others, he no longer has the capacity to feel anything at all...a state which Nightmare personally maintains.
[Scene: If PLAYER chooses to FIGHT Killer in the dungeon (first encounter/battle tutorial)]
(aggressive)
Heh! You wanna dance, kid?
Then step right up!
[Scene: If Killer spares PLAYER during battle tutorial]
(neutral)
Lucky for you, Boss thinks that nasty soul of yours could be useful.
So unfortunately for all of us, you’ll have to live another day.
But the others won’t be so merciful.
So check yourself.
[Scene: PLAYER spies on Killer and Nightmare talking in the Study]
(afraid)
I don’t wanna start feeling something again…
Like those losers do.
Ideals for this voice:
- Moderate to low tenor
- North American/United States accent, but open to interpretation
Character Bio
A former soldier from a destroyed timeline who once worked with Nightmare, Cross has a complicated past that has led him to come full circle. He sees his current contract with Nightmare as a necessary evil, a means to an end…though his true goals are only known to a very select few. He can be broody and rude at times, but is generally level-headed and willing to help his comrades when needed. If anyone on the Crew can be counted as remotely honest and decently trustworthy, it’s Cross.
[Scene: PLAYER encounters Cross in the Courtyard for the first time]
(neutral)
So, you must be the new recruit.
Otherwise you’d be dead already.
Let’s see if you can make the cut.
[Scene: Cross is relating the story behind what led him to join Nightmare once again]
(melancholy)
I lost everything, everyone.
The only place I had left to go was the Omega Timeline.
But I quickly realized I couldn’t stay in the Omega Timeline forever.
I’m a soldier, not a saint…
I just wasn’t cut out for charity work.
[Scene: When PLAYER fights Cross during a Genocide route]
(aggressive)
Bitter vengeance will consume your soul!
Ideals for this voice:
- Baritone - type/tone/character open to interpretation
- Slightly raspy
- Slower than average tempo at times
- North American/United States accent
Character Bio
Butcher and his younger brother Pyre have been through hell and back, and sadly, it shows in the many old scars on their damaged bones. These days, as long as there’s a roof over their heads and food on the table, Butch is willing to serve the hand that feeds Pyre - even if that means doing Nightmare’s very dirty work. Still, being a pawn in Nightmare’s chess game against the Multiverse is better than being trapped in the ruined, horrific world they came from, at least…
Butch tends to make rather sadistic, morbid and dark “jokes”, and his poor timing is legendary. One could say his sense of humor should be taken with a large grain of salt. Due to his injuries, he tends to have lapses in memory, forgetting things that might seem obvious or basic to others, such as remembering to wash his hands, or recalling someone’s name.
[Scene: PLAYER meets Butcher in the Ruins (first encounter)]
(neutral)
Heya, tidbit.
Heard through the grapevine that ya might be comin’ my way.
Don’cha know it’s dangerous to wander through a dark forest at night by yourself?
There’s scary, murderous monsters around...heh heh.
[Scene: Butch offers PLAYER some of his kill]
(suspicious)
Care for a bite?
It’s fresh.
Very fresh.
[Scene: If PLAYER eats the raw meat]
(laughing)
Heh heh heh!
Can’t believe ya just ate that!
You’re really kind of a freak, huh?
Ideals for this voice:
- Boisterous leggero tenor
- Distinct nasal tone
- Alveolar trill/Rolled R's
- Highly recommended to listen to examples of Papyrus in other works before attempting this role
- Accent open to interpretation
Character Bio
Butcher’s younger brother and avowed royal head chef of the castle. Considering the amount of hardship he’s been through, Pyre’s optimistic outlook on life and sunny disposition are evidence of just how resilient his soul is. Go ahead and ask him how he got his nickname - he’ll be more than happy to tell you the story!
Pyre is passionate to a fault about protecting the people he cares about, even being overzealous at times, but also isn’t afraid to stand up for himself when push comes to shove. And he certainly isn’t responsible for anyone’s messes or poor behavior! He has life to live and isn’t about to squander this second chance at living on cleaning up after everyone else!
[Scene: PLAYER meets Pyre in the Kitchen (first encounter)]
(cheerful)
Ah! Greetings, new human! Welcome to our humble home!
Hmm…
Then again, I suppose a castle isn’t exactly a humble sort of home, now is it?
Regardless - this is now your home as well!
So please, do let me know if there’s any way I can help you to settle in!
[Scene: Pyre is shocked at his own lack of manners when introducing himself to the PLAYER]
(shocked)
(GASP!)
Where are my manners?!
I am Papyrus, the greatest royal head chef to have ever graced this kitchen with such extraordinary culinary skill!
[Scene: Pyre intercepts PLAYER in the Main Hall during a Genocide run]
(serious/angry)
Human.
I’m sorry that we failed you somehow.
But you’ve failed us as well.
Prepare yourself.
Your despicable onslaught ends here and now!
Ideals for this voice:
- Baritenor or lower range tenor, but open to interpretation
- North American/United States accent
- Aggressive, sarcastic, often annoyed
- Moderate glitch effect - can be done with or without effects added, VA does not have to do own post-processing
Character Bio
Although he has no memories of his past, Error has built a new life for himself - one with purpose, albeit a twisted one. He has made it his personal mission to destroy corrupted worlds...or sometimes obliterates worlds he simply sees as ‘mistakes’, while sparing others he has some kind of respect for or attachment to. Despite his gruff, icy, acerbic demeanor, Error has some surprising traits, including a fondness for crafts such as knitting and a secret love of chocolate. He’s afraid of being touched by people, and will avoid getting physically close to anyone.
[Scene: PLAYER talks to Error in the Anti-Void (first encounter)]
(neutral)
I’m not a lap dog for that overblown octopus like the rest of those pathetic copies.
We simply have a working agreement…
A mutually beneficial arrangement, if you will.
Not like it’s any of your business.
[Scene: PLAYER gives chocolate gift (key item) to Error]
(flustered/embarrassed)
Ch-chocolate?!
Who told you that I like chocolate?!
[Scene: PLAYER initiates battle with Error (Genocide run)]
(aggressive)
Tangling with me would be a fatal mistake!
ideals for this voice:
- Moderate tenor
- California/Surfer accent
- Has certain lines (aggressive/threatening) with lower tone and heavy distortion/effects
Character Bio
A parasitic entity from an unknown world who has taken over some unfortunate Sans’ soul and is now in complete control of his skeletal host. Though he seems like a chill, friendly, laid-back sort of dude, don’t let his easy smile and silly antics fool you. Fresh will do anything in the name of self-preservation, even if that means letting others get hurt in his stead. Self-proclaimed 90s trash, he’s a big fan of PSAs (public service announcements) and keepin’ the lingo clean (he has the ability to censor the spoken words of others).
Scene: Fresh crashes game night at the castle and introduces himself to PLAYER (first encounter)
(cheerful)
Wiggidy wiggidy wazzup, my most rad-tastic homies!
(PLAYER asks who he is)
Who, me?
Brah, I’m just your funky neighBROhood cool kid!
Scene: Fresh invites PLAYER to check out his apartment…
(casual)
So, whatcha think of my sicknasty fly crib, homie?
I put a lotta time and effort into that sweet Furby collection over there!
Scene: Initiating a fight with Fresh
(creepy)
Heh, that’s very UNradical of you, brah.
A real bogus move.
I bet you’re totes gonna regret it...
Ideals for this voice:
- Light, bright tenor
- North American/United States accent
Character Bio
Confident, cheerful and bright, Blue can charm just about anyone with his thousand-watt smile. After his world was destroyed by Error, he was rescued by Dream and Core Frisk, and found a cozy new home in the Omega Timeline’s Newest Home. More recently he’s started to spend time with Dream and Ink, eager to help them keep both Nightmare's and Error’s ambitions in check so nobody else has to endure the pain of losing everything they hold dear, like he did.
[Scene: PLAYER is having a casual conversation with Blue in the Doodlesphere]
(enthusiastic)
Mweh heh!
I am pretty great, aren’t I?
And so are you!
[Scene: PLAYER attempts to flirt with Blue]
(flustered)
Y-you really want to -
With m-me?!
Oh, uh...wowzers…
I’m not sure what to say!
[Scene: Pacifist route dialogue in the Common Room]
(subdued)
Who’s truly right, and who’s really wrong?
I’m not going to be the judge of that.
But what I will do is give people the benefit of the doubt.
Ideals for this voice:
- Light, bright tenor
- North American/United States accent
Character Bio
This is not the lovable skeleton monster you know. A corrupted version of his former self, this particular Underswap Sans came from a perfectly average timeline - but being kidnapped by Error and witnessing his brother’s death along with the complete annihilation of his entire world, then being held captive for many creation cycles, has warped his perception of right and wrong. He is obsessive, underhanded, a flawless actor and master manipulator, prone to bouts of extreme jealousy if he becomes emotionally attached to someone.
This is a type of "evil twin" scenario. So if you'd like to try out for Blue, I encourage you to try this role out as well, since the VA should be the same for both characters.
[Scene: Talking to Yanberry in the Hallway after an encounter with Dust, PLAYER is injured (Neutral route)]
(worried)
Oh, no -
Did they try to hurt you?!
How terrible!
(creepy)
Don’t worry, I’ll protect you.
And I’ll make sure they never hurt you again…
Scene: PLAYER wants to end the “date” with Yanberry...
(desperate)
Please -
Please don’t leave me too!
I don’t know what I’ll do if you abandon me!
I…
I won’t let you leave!
I’ll never let you leave!
Ideals for this voice:
- Light, bright tenor
- British English accent preferred
Character Bio
Twin brother of Nightmare and deity of positivity. Sealed in stone for 500 creation cycles while Nightmare went on a ceaseless rampage that destroyed many worlds, he is now free and has been trying to mitigate further damage to the Multiverse by fighting his brother any chance he gets. Since he has so much positive energy, Dream always displays a cheerful and caring personality and is able to uplift those around him even in the most dire of circumstances. He can briefly experience negative emotions, though they’re fleeting, as too much exposure to negativity can damage his body and soul.
[Scene: Neutral battle against Nightmare]
(enthusiastic)
I believe in you!
Don’t lose hope!
[Scene: Dream confesses his true feelings about losing Nightmare as a brother]
(crying)
I’m so tired of this - tired of everything!
The endless fighting, all the destruction and suffering and death...
I can't do this anymore!
I just want my brother back!
[Scene: having a serious conversation with Dream in the Doodlesphere]
(subdued)
Please don’t tell the others about our conversation.
I have to stay strong for them.
If they knew I felt this way…
Then they might lose the little bit of hope they have left in their souls.
Ideals for this voice:
- Baritenor or moderate-low baritone
- North American/United States accent, possibly Brooklyn, but open to interpretation
Character Bio
Somewhat mysterious, aloof and infamously cynical, Color may be bitter, but he’s still altruistic at the center of his strange soul. He’s been trying for ages to convince Killer to leave Nightmare behind and start over, but each time he gets close to convincing his friend to do so, Nightmare reels Killer back in with the power to keep him blissfully apathetic. Still, Color is patient and plaqns on winning out in the end, intent on helping Killer get the second chance at life that Killer himself doesn’t believe he deserves.
[Scene: having a serious conversation with Color in the Anti-Void]
(neutral)
Trying to stay true to yourself is important.
That’s something I wish I would’ve learned for myself.
But it’s too late for me.
All I can do these days is try to help others…
And just hope I don’t screw it up too badly.
[Scene: Nightmare finds PLAYER, Killer and Color in the Anti-Void; Nightmare attempts to take Killer]
(angry)
Stay away from him, you slimy freak!
[Scene: Color is mad at PLAYER for staying with Nightmare]
(irritated)
Look, you need to choose which side you’re on.
Do you really wanna work for that jerk?
Or would you rather help someone who actually needs it?
Ideals for this voice:
- Baritenor or moderate-low baritone
- North American/United States accent, possibly Brooklyn, but open to interpretation
Character Bio
Although he is considered one of the original alpha timeline inhabitants, nobody is really sure how long he’s been hanging out in the Omega Timeline with all of the other destroyed timeline refugees. His world and everything in it is long gone, and he came to terms with the tumultuous reality of the Multiverse ages ago. For the past several hundred creation cycles, give or take a few, he’s lived a rather laid back and carefree life in New Snowdin, helping others deal with the same trauma he himself experienced and rebuild their lives. The Omega Timeline has truly become a real home to him, and the refugees his found family.
Scene: The intro to a new game file (narration)
(neutral)
Heya.
It’s been a while.
So, it’s like I asked ya before…
Do you think even the worst person can change?
That anyone can become a better person if they’re given a second chance, no matter how badly they’ve messed up in the past?
Welp.
Guess we’re about to find out.
Scene: PLAYER arrives in New Snowdin with Core Frisk and a certain character…
(casual/neutral)
Hey, ya made it.
Welcome.
I see you’ve got a new buddy with ya.
Good job.
Guess you were right.
Even the worst person can change for the better.
Scene: Sans defends the Omega Timeline from PLAYER during a Genocide run
(irritated)
Just give up, would ya?
I mean, haven’t you done enough?
Everything’s destroyed…again.
Plenty more people are dust ‘cause of you.
Do ya really gotta go all the way this time?
Keep fighting until there’s literally nothing left?
So be it.
Don’t say I didn’t warn ya.
Ideals for this voice:
- Adolescent
- Very flexible and open to interpretation
Character Bio
This Chara has been fused with Killer for longer than they’d care to admit, and they’re becoming rather restless as of late. They feed off of the souls Killer destroys, but even all that gratuitous murder on the regular can’t seem to satiate their lust for death any longer. They want a new partner...someone with more potential…
[Scene: Chara invites PLAYER to begin a Genocide route]
(manic)
Howdy, partner! It’s been a while!
Let’s team up again and take these disgusting monsters down!
[Scene: When PLAYER kills Pyre during a Genocide route]
(smug)
Ha! How pathetic!
They deserve to suffer!
[Scene: Pacifist route battle vs. Chara]
(crying)
H-how dare you…
Stop it!
I don’t want to remember!
Ideals for this voice:
- Adolescent
- Deadpan/monotone
- Very flexible and open to interpretation
Character Bio
As a result of being thrown into the CORE by the Sans of their timeline, they are omnipresent across all of space and time, able to appear at infinite points of existence simultaneously. Formerly known as Frisk Marusina, now more commonly known as simply Core, they seek to rescue the sole survivors of corrupted and abandoned timelines, inviting them to start a new life in the Omega Timeline dimension. Despite becoming something close to a god or deity, Core is still a fickle child at times, acting immature at the strangest moments then suddenly switching to the persona of a being with infinite wisdom. Core acts as a kind of go-between for the player when they’re traveling the Multiverse, offering guidance and chances to make up for mistakes in the current timeline. Their tone is always neutral and deadpan.
[Scene: GAME OVER dialogue]
How’d you get tangled up in this timeline?
Huh...I don’t think you’re supposed to be here.
Come on, time to put you back where you belong.
[Scene: Core confronts the PLAYER during a Genocide route]
I think you’ve done enough damage.
Time to put a stop to this before there’s nothing
left to SAVE.
[Scene: PLAYER arrives in New Snowdin with a certain character…]
Second chances really are a beautiful thing, aren’t
they?
It’s like a precious gift that keeps on giving.
Ideals for this voice:
- Soft alto
- Australian accent
Character Bio
Also known as the "Snowdin Shopkeeper", Bonnie is another refugee from a destroyed alpha timeline who has set up a new Item Shop in Uto Marketplace.
(cheerful)
Hey there, traveler!
How can I help you?
(annoyed)
I dunno why everyone keeps thinking this is a pawn shop.
Look, I don’t wanna buy your junk, ok?
I need to earn money, not spend it.
I’ve gotta make a living somehow!
Ideals for this voice:
- Moderate tenor
- French accent required
Character Bio
Zacharie is an eccentric, enigmatic, somewhat mysterious man who wears a cat mask and runs the rare items shop in Uto Marketplace. He seems to know more about the state of the Multiverse than he lets on, and somehow always has at least one especially useful item in stock…
Bonjour, my friend!
Haven’t we met somewhere before?
Never mind…
If you’re here in my humble shop, then I’m sure you’re seeking something interesting.
Uno momento, por favor.
I’ve got just the thing!
Ideals for this voice:
- Low tenor or baritenor, but open to interpretation
- Gruff but friendly
- American country-western accent
Character Bio
Wiz came from a distant world to expand his humble business into more markets. The grocery shop in Uto is brand new, so he’s heading it up himself for the time being to ensure things run smoothly. Friendly and a real salt of the earth type.
(casual)
