Mystic Messenger: The Fandub

On the surface, Zen is known for being a very eccentric, narcissistic, and flirtatious character. He will often talk about his looks, praising and complimenting himself for how attractive he is, as well as how talented he is when it comes to singing and acting. Zen tends to compare others to himself when it comes to looks, frequently telling Yoosung to work out to look half as good as he does. He also frequently bickers with Jumin, whom he sees as a pompous "trust fund kid." Despite this, Zen can become very loyal and caring, especially to those he cares about. In all routes, he cares deeply for the main character, regardless of whether this affection becomes romantic or platonic. While Zen likes to compliment himself, he often flirts with the main character as well and is a romantic at heart.

In conjunction, deep down Zen self doubts himself, wondering if people only see him for his looks, rather than his talents. He can be easily upset if something affects his career, almost entering a depressive state.

Zen works as a stage actor and frequently is cast in musicals, though his VA should not need any significant singing ability. He is relatively ambitious and is known for pursuing larger and better productions, offering up smaller ones or turning them down if the opportunity presents itself.

Yoosung is a very nice and lovable college student, and is described by the other RFA members as "a real puppy." Yoosung cares about people a lot and loves to spend time with others. He is naive and believes things that are told to him more often than not, as shown in several of his interactions with 707. As a result, he is often the target of 707's pranks and teasing. Even so, he considers 707 to be his closest friend, and the pair are frequently seen bonding over video games and their love of junk food.

Despite his somewhat naive and lighthearted nature, Yoosung became severely depressed after the death of his cousin, Rika, who he idolized and was very close with. After her death, Yoosung lost all interest in his studies and became a shut-in, rarely leaving for classes and opting instead to play LOLOL in order to cope with the crippling sadness. However, at his core he is a generally kind and bubbly person, if a bit childish at times.

During Yoosung's route, 707 states in a phone call with the MC that Yoosung had yandere tenancies, which the player can encourage (along with pretending to be his dead cousin, Rika) in order to get a bad ending. However, outside of this ending, he portrayed as a sweet person aside from mild possessiveness and the tendency to hold a grudge.

For the most part, Seven displays a happy-go-lucky, outgoing, and very bizarre personality. He frequently plays pranks on Yoosung in the chat room, makes fun of the other members (and himself), and, in response to just about anything, will respond with a series of "lol"s. He jokingly refers to himself as a god, and has a rivalry with Jumin due to his stifling affection for his prized cat.

However, the player's first impression of Seven is not the "real" Seven. He frequently dodges questions from the other members of the RFA regarding the true nature of his work, using his humorous persona to deflect suspicion. Outside the chat room, and behind the humorous front he puts up, Seven is actually quite depressed and serious, and he refuses to believe that anything good can happen to him. This is due to his past and his profession as a skilled hacker, as he thinks that he will endanger anyone he gets close to. This fear is brought up very often during the events of his route, usually when he is trying to push the main character away. 

Though he rejects the main character if they express genuine affection, it is evident that he values them quite a lot and very readily reciprocates when convinced that they will accept him regardless of how he is. After his route, he returns to his previous jokester self--just a little more grounded, and now more content in who he is without the pressure to put up a cheerful front.

Even though Jaehee is a fairly serious and independent business woman, she cares deeply for her friends. Jaehee has her own dry sense of humor and knows how to have a good chuckle at herself and others. That being said, she likes things to be organized and kept in line. It's very frustrating to her when things do not go according to schedule or if she is saddled with unexpected extra work. For this reason, she is frequently frustrated with her boss, Jumin, who enjoys giving her endless chores such as forcing her to babysit his cat. Ever the responsible one, she always comes through and deals the best she can despite the challenges her boss (and friend) Jumin always throws at her both in work and personal life. She is an extremely capable person and has a black belt in judo.

She is one of Zen's biggest fans, which sometimes causes her to humorously break her calm and serious demeanor. In his route, she berates the protagonist for ruining his image, but later apologizes and whole-heartedly owns up to her mistakes.

In her route, Jaehee forms a close bond with both the protagonist and later Zen, who help her to better advocate for herself against Jumin's ridiculous demands. Ultimately, she quits, and she and the protagonist decide to open up a coffee shop together. While never explicitly stated (likely due to censorship), it is heavily implied that they have romantic feelings for one another and are hinted to be engaged in the DLCs.

Jumin is a quiet, serious, and cautious man who, as the oldest, acts as the logical and pragmatic voice of the group. Despite this, he frequently jokes with the other members, even if they berate him for it and don't understand his strange and convoluted sense of humor. His general cadence will give off that of a child's, often being innocently unaware of things outside of business dealings. He is a workaholic and often works his assistant, Jaehee, to the bone. Jumin disregards others' opinions of him, so he lives his life however he wishes, which on the surface portrays him as unsympathetic and haughty. Even so, he cares deeply for the other members of the RFA, and does not hesitate to use his money and authority to help any of them when necessary. His best friend is V, whom he trusts unconditionally.

During Jumin's Route, it is revealed that he is not so cold and unfeeling as he portrays himself; instead, he is a man who feels far too much but, for the sake of efficiency, he pushes his feelings down, repressing them and using work and his cat to distract himself. This has led to Jumin to develop severe, crippling loneliness and he does not know how to work through it, viewing himself as a 'monster', thinking himself to be an ugly creature because of how lonely and paranoid he is. To cope, he projected this loneliness onto his cat, Elizabeth the 3rd, and is overcome with despair when he admits that he knows their "friendship" is a lie--that a pet cannot understand him at the level of another human being, and never will.

If the protagonist sides with him and enters his route, Jumin becomes alarmingly possessive at first. Because of previously being forced to put on a front and repress his emotions, their friendship and eventual relationship is rocky as he struggles with the intensity of his feelings coupled with his internal fears of being abandoned and rejected. He even goes so far as to trap her in his apartment, much to the outrage of the other RFA members. However, with the protagonist's help and the support of his friends, Jumin overcomes all his fear and anxiety and "untangles" his emotions that were knotted for many years.

V is a timid, faint-hearted person who keeps everything to himself, to the point where he would rather live with the burden of all his secrets than tell the other RFA members. He harbors a close bond with Jumin yet keeps him at a distance in order to protect him. Although V is famous within the photography industry, he is not well known amongst the public since he does not like being talked about. He is a people pleaser and overly sensitive to the opinions of others. For this reason, he is deeply saddened by Yoosung's blame for the death of his fiancé Rika, and even goes as far as to tell Rika that he would happily stay with her even if she physically harms him. As a result of her actions, V's eyes were hurt badly, resulting in severe corneal damage that almost blinded him.

Despite his double agent role and status as a member of the cult Mint Eye, he genuinely cares for the other RFA members and does all that he can to protect 707 and Saeran. Even so, he harbors extreme guilt for the harm that befalls them as a result of Rika's actions and his own inaction.

Before her "death," Rika was known to the RFA members as strong-willed and charismatic woman who wanted to help those around her to the best of her abilities. She was idolized by her younger cousin, Yoosung, along with the other members of the RFA, many of whom harbored romantic feelings for her. Due to her incredible ambition for helping anyone in need, she created the RFA to raise funds to donate to several charity organizations and give money to these who need the most. She touched hearts and improved the lives of countless strangers. She was also capable of hosting great parties and managing to invite a large number of guests from all different backgrounds thanks to her tremendous influence on other and splendid persuasiveness, which is mainly because of her phenomenal speech skills, described by others as “having a way with words."

Even so, Rika is still suffering from the scars of her abusive upbringing. The trauma she suffered that made her highly mentally unstable, paranoid, mistrustful, angry, inadequate and violent, giving her a very low self-esteem, and believing that she doesn't deserve to be loved. Because of this, she desperately craves loves from others. This draws her to V's photographic work which is sub-textually about the unconditional love the sun provides, a kind of love she never experienced growing up and wishes to give to others so they won't suffer like she did. 

Over time, her good intentions morph into something more sinister. She began to use people’s trauma as a way to brainwash them into thinking her organization, Mint Eye, is where they'll find happiness, so that they'll stay by her side forever.

Saeran is the mysterious caller that the RFA attempts to hunt down throughout the various routes. Despite this, he sees himself as angel that will lead the RFA and the player to salvation through Rika's shady organization, Mint Eye. As a child, he was a kind and gentle soul despite the trauma inflicted by his abusive family. He is manipulated by Rika into seeking revenge against his brother, 707, who she convinced abandoned him in his time of need when they were children. Like his brother, he is incredibly intelligent and a phenomenal hacker. He also harbors anger for V, who he views as a traitor and a hypocrite.

In his route, the protagonist becomes the major focus of Ray who's obsessed with keeping them by his side. He tries to trick the protagonist into thinking the RFA members are AIs programmed by himself and incites her into making them reveal their secrets. He has a welcoming and charming demeanor towards her and is very open about showing affection. He loves gardening and knows the symbolic meaning of each flower. He also enjoys cooking. 

Later, it's revealed Ray is an alternate personality, created by Rika during Mint Eye's cleansing program. The other personality, Saeran, is very aggressive, arrogant and demeaning; the complete opposite of the old Saeran's delicate and gentle self before his induction to Mint Eye. This Saeran also has no qualms about being a brute to V and other believers, forcing them to drink a strange elixir and openly degrading the protagonist with insults and ridicule. In his own route, he even resorts to starving them (reminiscent of his own mother's torture).

In the good ending, Saeran escapes from Mint Eye with the protagonist. His demeanor changes to better resemble his original self, prior to Rika's involvement. He sees the protagonist as his salvation and guiding light and stubbornly wants to do what it takes to sacrifice himself for her (and by extension, his brother). In bad ends, it's shown he easily puts her own happiness above his to the point he foregoes his own wishes and wellbeing to make her happy. He eventually reunites with his brother, 707, claiming he always nurtured affection for him in the corner of his heart even when he was blinded by rage due to Rika's lies.

Echo Girl is a famous actress with an overindulged personality, who tends to believe that she can get everything she wants and trusts her father to back her up. She comes from a wealthy family and is used to always getting her way no matter the cost. She is desperate for attention and becomes angered when Zen rejects her advances, choosing to slander him to the media afterwards. She serves as the main antagonist for Zen's route.

Voice Range: High to high-medium pitched. Childish and almost tantrum-like at times.

Chairman Han is noted to be a very doting father and lover, wasting no expense to shower his lover and son with gifts. However, he does have a womanizing problem and is not at all faithful to his wife.

Jumin has mentioned that his father is normally logical with a business orientated mind, but whenever the chairman is involved with a woman, particularly a new girlfriend, the older Han loses his sensibilities and becomes too lost in his new lover. During these times, Chairman Han often creates new projects, buys expensive gifts, and does whatever his lover asks in order to please his new girlfriend. He seems to have little care for what happens to his son and the company.

Voice Range: Low to medium-low pitched. "Fatherly."

Not much is known about Sarah's true personality other than her greed when it comes to money. She seems to be very loyal to her sister, Glam Choi, and is willing to go through tedious tasks to get what she wants. Sarah doesn't seem to be afraid of flaunting her looks and position as she calls herself Jumin's fiancée, despite his arguments to the contrary.

She portrays herself as an upbeat woman, very cheerful and caring. When talking to those other than her sister, she displays a fake persona. She seemingly pretends to act hurt and defeated when her advances on Jumin don't work, though sometimes making joking remarks at how cold he is towards her. She is the primary antagonist of Jumin's route.

Although Glam acted friendly and cordial to Jumin, he showed no interest in her or in the fact that she was possibly becoming his second step-mother. However, as Glam's schemes with Sarah are revealed and become more obvious, Jumin shows his contempt towards and reveals the ploy to his father.

She is a minor character and one of the two antagonists of Jumin's route.

Vanderwood is a minor character seen to have a dislike towards 707 at the start of his route, often saying he will 'taser' him if he doesn't complete his work on time. Like Seven, he seems to be rather shut off from people due to the secretive nature of his work, and appears to do everything his boss tells him to do regardless of how cruel. However, when he lets his guard down, Vanderwood has a relaxed but sarcastic attitude, even joking with the protagonist and Seven from time to time. Seven often refers to him as his maid in order to keep his true identity hidden.

His personality seems to change in the after ending, as he changes from the boss's pet to a bit of a risk taker. He eventually accepts Seven's offer of running away from their corrupt agency, as they were going to dispose of Vanderwood for failing to capture and silence 707. After this, Vanderwood becomes scared and uncertain where to go next, and decides to take Seven's option of changing his name and running away with him along with Saeran and the protagonist.

The unnamed security guard is Jumin Han's personal protector. He keeps watch over Jumin's penthouse, monitoring who enters and leaves the home.

In multiple routes, Jumin assigns his security guards to protect the individual members of the RFA after the threat of Unknown is discovered. Whoever receives this role will also voice the other security guards, unless there is enough interest to cast multiple people for each one.

Throughout the gameplay loop of Mystic Messenger, the player works as a party planner, staying in touch with various side characters as they attempt to convince them to attend. While at times serious, they are often eccentric characters which are portrayed as a running gag, ranging from a group that makes pancakes for cats to... well, a literal cat. And Gordon Ramsey. And also god...? Given the diversity of extras needed, any all voices are welcome here! Feel free to just drop a demo reel or voice samples that showcase your range instead. Alternatively, I will include a few sample lines to use as a starting point (gender doesn't matter for the sake of the auditions!).

We are looking to add a small team of script creators to our project! Their primary responsibility will be either acquiring transcripts of the game and turning these into scripts for the actors, or transcribing the footage into a script if this cannot be found. No prior experience or skills necessary! Just tell us a little about yourself.

We are looking to add a small team of people to assist us with recording gameplay footage! This will help us to increase the speed at which we create episodes exponentially, since it also aids the script creators and video editors. The only requirement is that you have some sort of gameplay capture software, such as OBS or a phone with screen record. While recording, you will follow walkthrough guides in order to ensure that we follow the desired game routes and match with the scripts. Prior experience isn't necessary, although it may be relevant to note that the game takes place in real time. Events can be missed if you go too long without playing, although the game can always be reloaded if you miss one with a small amount of farmable in-game currency.
