Life Happens Casting

Life Happens Casting

Project Overview

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Life Happens is an audio-only webseries, initially conceived as a slice-of-life anime series. It aims to provide entertaining stories within the fictional small town of Primrose Heights, where, as the title suggests, life happens. Many colorful characters populate this town, including our main four --- Ryan Feller, Austin Pierce, Alyssa Moore, and Sydney Sellers --- as the series takes a peek into their lives, their situations, and the hijinks that come along with them. While most episodes can be viewed on their own, there is an overarching story that progresses character relationships and arcs as our main four characters navigate through their freshman year and embark on various adventures.

All episodes have been scripted, and most characters have been cast. There are only a few that need voice actors, and those needed characters are presented here in this Casting Call.

Alyssa Moore is a teenage girl who, at the start of the series, is a freshman at Primrose High School. She is one of four main characters in this series (the others being Ryan Feller, Austin Pierce, and Sydney Sellers). Alyssa has violet hair braided into a ponytail, and blue-violet eyes.

Alyssa is a dedicated student at Primrose High in many ways -- she's a grade-A student, an all-around track star, and the dedicated leader of the school's student council. Especially as a member of the school council, she is renowned for her exceptional organization of school events, such as fundraisers and dances. She puts her heart and soul into every event she plans, and as a result, earns admiration and respect from her peers and the school personnel.

In general, Alyssa is a kindhearted person and is always willing to help out, even to her own detriment. In fact, she's a little too selfless and barely makes time for herself. And when she does, it hardly feels fulfilling. She also tends to be too kind for her own good, and as a result, people can easily take advantage of her kindness. She especially extends her own help to her friends. Mainly to steer them in the right direction when they're doing something that could hurt them (physically, mentally, emotionally, or otherwise). It can lead to her being somewhat of a control freak, but oftentimes, she does this with the best intentions in mind. She always looks out for her friends, and acts as the voice of reason when arguments brew. She, in many ways, is the leader of the group.

For her voice, I imagine one in a medium-high vocal range, since she is a teenager. One that generally sounds young, friendly and compassionate, but also one that is outgoing. If you have your own interpretation of the character, we appreciate and encourage the decision to do that.

  • (heading to her friends, out of breath from running to them, speaks in-between breaths) "Sorry... I'm late, guys. Today's meeting... went a lot longer... than I thought it would."

  • (at her limit, fed up and shouting angrily) "So what?! What would my refusal to do something so 'meaningless' do, other than tarnish my reputation?"

Sydney Sellers is a 15-year-old girl. She has long, chestnut-brown hair and green eyes. Sydney is good-natured and sociable... perhaps too sociable. She always wants to meet new people and tries almost too hard to become friends with them. She enjoys cosplaying, and will always seize an opportunity to dress up in an outlandish costume, whether based on pre-established characters or ones of her own creation. She loves to write stories, particularly in the realm of fantasy, and they always seem to be outlandish and out of control. Sydney is friendly most of the time, a tad socially clueless, and can talk a person's ear off if they let her. All she wants to do in her high school years is make friends and leave her mark. She is easy to befriend, although she is almost always beside her best friend, Alyssa, and her other friends, Ryan and Austin.

Regarding Austin, while the two are friends and will help one another when they need it, they almost always engage in debates and rivalries. Way more than good friends should. Their ideals and beliefs differ vastly from each other, often leading to disagreements of such intensity, that you could swear they would engage in a fistfight.

Her voice is in the high vocal range. Particularly low or directly in the high range. Her voice sounds youthful and full of energy. She expresses a wide variety of emotions, from extreme happiness to bitter sadness. Her lines involve screaming and yelling, in both positive and negative cases. A few of her lines are long because of her talkative nature and how easily she can release a constant stream of chatter. The voice should sound friendly and energetic, one full of life and vibrancy.

  • (nervously, with great anxiety) "I-I’ll be fine. I made it this far, didn’t I?"

  • (triumphantly, making fun of Austin) “That’s right. You cracked the moment we reached the top! You were screaming like a widdle baby!”

Elizabeth "Lizzie" Moore

Role assigned to: Solaria

Elizabeth "Lizzie" Moore is a female child, 7 years of age, and is the little sister of one of the show's main characters, Alyssa. Lizzie is loud, obnoxious, bratty, and oftentimes spoiled. She will often lash out if she doesn't have her way, and will pester relentlessly until she does. She cannot be trusted to go outside, as she could get herself hurt or potentially ruin someone's property with her reckless actions. It can get to a point where she even needs to be confined to a leash so she doesn't run amok. And when she starts fuming and gets into a temper tantrum, she pretty much acts like a gremlin, right down to making noises akin to one. She is a huge fan of UNO.

Despite being obnoxious at worst, and precocious at best, she deeply loves her big sister and always wants to hang out with her. She affectionately nicknames her "Lyssie," just as Alyssa and others nickname her "Lizzie". Since Alyssa is busy and juggles many responsibilities, those days where Lizzie can hang out with her are more rare than often.

For her voice, since she is a very young child, something around that high range will work. A voice that can oftentimes be bratty, but also slip into legitimate or deceptive innocence, and obnoxiousness. While, at the same time, showing that she truly loves and looks up to her big sister. We appreciate and encourage if you take a different spin or interpretation to this character.

Mr. Rinaldo

Role assigned to: AtlanticPaladin

Mr. Rinaldo is the proud middle-aged owner of his eponymous pizza joint, Rinaldo's Pizza, and prides himself on the restaurant's pristine quality and authentic Italian cuisine. He takes great pride in his food, and is not afraid to express those sentiments outright. He deeply values his employees and treats them with respect, even if that respect isn't reciprocated. Mr. Rinaldo is typically kind and appreciative of his customers and employees. However, his motives can sometimes be questionable. Various employees, particularly delivery boys, have quit their jobs due to being asked to do things that put them in great danger. Mr. Rinaldo finds accusations about those to be absolutely absurd, often dismissing the former employees as being high or under the influence, when those employees tend to be valid in their reasons. Additionally, every week without fail, he often leaves his restaurant without notice to "take care of personal matters". Regardless of questionable intentions and methods, Mr. Rinaldo means well and aims to be the best owner he can be.

For the voice, I'm looking for one that is in the lower range, quite deep and almost baritone. Something that works for a kind middle-aged man who can be quite expressive and appreciative. Although there's a shroud of mystery with this character, the voice shouldn't reflect that. As far as everyone is concerned, Mr. Rinaldo is a kindly pizza restaurant owner. We appreciate and encourage any different spins or interpretations of the character

  • “Don Parmesan... I think I have a long way to go before I meet your expectations.”
