Left 4 Dead: The Sacrifice Comic Dub

Project Overview

LEFT 4 DEAD is a multiplayer horror game set amidst a zombie apocalypse. The game notably takes place 2 weeks after the first person was reported as infected with the "Green Flu" Virus. In the game's intro, since a short time had passed since the first infection, the infected began to mutate, spawning more than just regular zombies. The world is filled with millions, maybe even billions of "Common Infected." Now that they've begun to mutate, among the Common Infected are now the less frequent, but much deadlier "Special Infected," such as Hunters, Boomers, Smokers, Witches, Tanks, Jockeys, Spitters, and Chargers. The Special Infected all have superhuman/supernatural abilities that the Common Infected don't possess.

This Comic Dub will focus on "The Sacrifice" Comic, which has FOUR TOTAL CHAPTERS being converted into EPISODES in this project). The comics tie in to the game's canon, providing a much more lore-friendly story to a game that doesn't exactly drop lore in your face. All that this project needs is the Voice Actors for Francis, Louis, and Zoey. I will be covering the audio, video editing and Bill's Voice Acting. This is my first SERIOUS project. A lot of the things I've worked on in the past have had a silly/comedic nature. I've been a fan of Left 4 Dead for a very, very long time, so this seems like the right thing to do right now!

Important details about auditioning for the MAIN CAST OF CHARACTERS; they need to be able to yell/scream. This comic will have a lot of it, and I'd like to honor that with our dub. The only other video(s) I've seen of this comic on YouTube or other sites are AI generated clones of their voices. I'm not a fan of AI, I don't endorse it, I don't want my voice used to train AI, and I will not do that to any of my Voice Actors, either. I'd like to as closely as possible, honor the original games with talented VA's who can make these characters shine.

Important details about audition for SUPPORTING CHARACTERS; a lot of these characters are NOT in the games, and don't have voices to reference or do impressions of. Therefore, I've created some notes of what I imagine these characters would sound like based on their environment, who they know, and other important details. Since these characters don't exist in any media that gives them voices, I leave it entirely up to you to interpret the voice how YOU see fit, and the voice notes are simply recommendations. With the amount of talented VA's out there, I'm certain we'll find some brand, new voices for these characters.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS PROJECT:

  • Good, clear audio quality. The best quality with the closest voice to what I'd like is most likely to be chosen.

  • Age of 18+ please! No minors are allowed to work on this project! This dub will include plenty of M-Rated and R-Rated content!

  • There will be a Discord server for this project, so please leave your Discord with your audition. People auditioned before this requirement, so, if they are chosen, I will get that information from them at a later time.

  • For the main characters, you NEED to be able to yell/scream. There is a lot of yelling and screaming, mainly from Francis, Louis, Zoey and Bill, therefore, as a VA auditioning for a main character, I need to hear that from you as your last line.

  • I recommend that you listen to the Voice Reference of the original VA's to get an idea for how to send in your lines. I haven't used any lines from the comic for auditions, rather, they are from the games. This is to see how you stand with what the original cast HAS actually voiced, and to make it easier for you to nail how their original Voice Actors did the job.

Please, understand that if you are not chosen, it does not mean that you did a bad job, that you have a bad voice, or that I disliked your audition. I will try my best to be fair in giving constructive criticism, while also listing positives about your audition! I do not want anyone here to walk away discouraged. At the end of they day, I am happy that you showed interest in my project, and that you took the time to submit an audition to it. There will be more roles in future episodes, so, if you didn't make it in this Episode, there very well may be a role for you in the future.

Thank you!

Latest Updates

  • All Roles Closed

First and foremost, I want to thank everyone that took the time to apply for these roles! I had a tough time choosing between many auditions as a lot of them were very solid! I definitely had a well rounded group of auditions from talented VA's! Thank you for your time, and i wish you well in the future!

There will be future castings as new characters will appear in later Episodes, so please don't walk away discouraged!

Congratulations to the VA's who made it! You all had some tough competition, but, I'm happy with the cast I've chosen, and I look forward to working with you!

  • Voice Actors

    • ZOEY'S ROLE: Hello, everyone! I've closed on Zoey's role today. I'm pretty confident Camryn can give a great performance as Zoey, and I'm looking forward to it. Thank you to everyone who applied for Zoey's role, I'm very grateful that you showed interest in my project!

    • LOUIS' ROLE: As for Louis, I have a voice I am envisioning, and I'd like to see that met with his Voice Actor. I would very much prefer that the role of Louis be cast to a Black Voice Actor! Earl Alexander's performance as Louis is quite possibly one of the best in gaming, and I would really like to honor that.

    • FRANCIS' ROLE: I've heard multiple very sharp auditions for Francis, which is crazy to me, because his voice is extremely unique. I don't think a lot of people are capable of hitting that same level of gruff rasp and that strange, but awesome voice note that Francis has. Surprising to say that I'm having a very difficult time choosing between several amazing Voice Actors who really came close to the original.

    • BILL'S ROLE: I will be voicing Bill, myself. I actually have recorded all of Bill's lines, as well. After hearing some of the Francis line reads, there's a couple of people who could probably pull off Bill's voice better than me, but, I'd like to continue in this direction with my project!

    • RAY'S ROLE: A few solid auditions for Ray, already! His role is slightly newer, as well, so that's great! I'll be leaving the role open for now, as I'd like to keep auditions coming in!

    • RESCUE 9'S ROLE: Rescue 9, I am still waiting for more auditions, but so far, they've been great! His role is also slightly new, so that's always nice to see!

    • UNNAMED SOLDIER'S ROLE: The oldest supporting character, for sure. Quite a few solid performances in the auditions for him, as well! I will definitely have trouble selecting the VA for this role, as well!

ONCE AGAIN, thank you to everyone who's expressed interest in this project! I'm very grateful that you even clicked on it in the first place, let alone auditioned and gave the performances that you all did! Wonderful job, thank you!

  • 11 Cents Per Word Payment Update

Apologies for the delay for the payment update. Now that the script is finished, I conducted a word count of each character and made calculations at a rate of 11 cents per word. I've also slightly rounded each total price up to an even number. This makes it a pay slightly higher than the rate given. I hope this is to everyone's satisfaction! I've included any grunts or sounds I'm asking you to make as a word, as well. This leaves the total word count as such:

    Louis: 449 words ($50)

    Francis: 343 words ($38)

    Zoey: 140 words ($20)

    Ray: 101 words ($12)

    Unnamed Soldier: 45 words ($5)

These word counts will be listed under each role corresponding to the characters individually.

  • Ray and Rescue 9 Voice Actors

I was originally going to voice Ray and Rescue 9, myself, but figured it might be best to list them both for a potential Voice Actor before it comes to that. Please see below to find information on the voice notes!

LOUIS (MAIN CHARACTER)
closed
Paid: Flat Rate 50 USD
cast offsite

Character Information: Louis is a systems analyst for an IT department. Louis is normally optimistic, observative, knowledgeable and kind. He also canonically knows some Japanese, as seen in the game's campaign under the same name, where he calls Francis an idiot in Japanese.

Voice Notes: Louis has a mid-slightly deep voice, with a slight Pennsylvanian accent. His accent gets a bit heavier when he becomes heated. He needs to sound like a corporate worker who has a lot of pent up frustration that he's ready to let out, with a kind and optimistic outer shell. I would prefer a Black/POC Voice Actor for this role.

THIS CHARACTER WILL BE YELLING/SCREAMING, SO PLEASE MAKE SURE TO VOICE THE LAST LINE WITH THAT IN MIND.

*Louis has 449 words in this script.

I don't need an exact impression of Earl Alexander's performance, but as close as possible with the best audio quality will be the most likely to be chosen.

FRANCIS (MAIN CHARACTER)
closed
Paid: Flat Rate 38 USD
Role assigned to: D. Alton

Character Information: Francis is a tough biker with tattoos all over his arms and neck. He's cocky, confident and large & in charge. He's a hell of a fighter, and he knows it. He loves to stir chaos, but he does care about his buddies, Bill, Zoey and Louis. Despite this, he still talks a lot of trash to Bill the most, and occasionally to Louis and Zoey, as well.

Voice Notes: Mid-Deep voice, gruff, glottal fry/rasp. He needs to sound like a tough, middle aged biker who enjoys starting fights with people at bars.

I'm looking for a close impression, but perfection is not necessary. The audition with the closest match and the best audio will be most likely to be chosen.

ZOEY (MAIN CHARACTER)
closed
Paid: Flat Rate 20 USD
Role assigned to: Camryn Alexis

Character Information: Zoey is a college-aged girl who loves old horror movies. Zoey very deeply cares for the friends she's made between Bill, Louis and Francis. It's hard to tell if she cares about them so much because of her personality, or because she's terrified of being left alone in this harsh, new world. She's resilient, but still quite scared of the new surroundings related to the zombie apocalypse.

Voice Notes: Zoey has a mid-high voice. She's slightly younger, college-aged (above 18), but she also has a slight glottal fry or rasp. The rasp is almost like what you'd hear in a sultry or seductive voice, minus the seductive nature. She is not flirting with anyone in the comics or games, therefore, a seductive voice is not needed. She also gives off a confident and caring outward appearance even though she's often quite scared on the inside.

THIS CHARACTER WILL BE YELLING/SCREAMING, SO PLEASE MAKE SURE TO VOICE THE LAST LINE WITH THAT IN MIND.

*Zoey has 140 words in this script.

RAY (SUPPORTING CHARACTER)
closed
Paid: Flat Rate 12 USD
Role assigned to: ScientistBarnacle25

Character information: Ray is Louis' coworker at Franklin Brothers'. He has a minor role in Louis' flashback during the beginning of the infection.

Voice notes: This character does not exist in the game, therefore there is no official voice for Ray. I imagine his voice is mid-slightly deep range. This range isn't exactly required. Given that he works with Louis in PA, I imagine he has a slight Pennsylvanian accent similarly to Louis. This accent is not required, however.

*Ray has 101 words in this script.

The best interpretation of this character's voice with the best audio will likely be chosen.

  • (Suspicious, slightly frustrated, slightly scared) No! (Slight pause) Louis. People are dying. I'm not gonna get infected just to keep Franklin Brothers' bullshit database running!

RESCUE 9 (SUPPORTING CHARACTER)
closed
Paid: Flat Rate 7 USD
Role assigned to: James S. Alexander

Character information: Rescue 9 is the codename given to the military squad that rescues the survivors from the Farmhouse. Although it's a squad, only the soldier in charge relaying messages to the military base identifies as Rescue 9, so that's what we will call this character.

Voice notes: This character is believed to be the Soldier responding on the radio to the survivors responding to his radio broadcast. This character does not need a voice match or impression. However, if you would like to voice match, you're welcome to view the reference.

UNNAMED SOLDIER (SUPPORTING CHARACTER)
closed
Paid: Flat Rate 5 USD
cast offsite

Character Information: This character is introduced, with his name, in a later episode. For now, we will refer to him as Unnamed Soldier. This character also has no official Voice Actor, as his presence is purely in the Comic.

Voice Notes: I imagine this character as an older man. Likely someone higher brass in the military. Therefore, I would think his voice would be senior, deep, gruff and commanding. Maybe even a Southern accent, but not necessary if I like your audition.

*Unnamed Soldier has 45 words in this script.

A good interpretation of the voice as well as good, clear audio will be most likely to be chosen.
