Project: 'Sparrow' | Indie Game Casting Call; 1st Round
Project Overview
Project : Sparrow is a "Hack-&-Slash RPG" inspired by Devil May Cry, Dissidia 012: Duodecim, and RWBY.
Set in a version of our world once teetering on the brink of collapse, two consecutive events will change the course of its history forever.
A crystal of unknown origin appears on Earth during a dire energy crisis. Now known as "Anima", this crystal is harnessed to create fuel and electricity. This springs forth a new age of technological advancement never before seen in recorded history. But in the ensuing excitement, a single oversight causes grave ramifications for the future with an event referred to as 'The Altering'.
Now, a new generation of adolescents gifted with supernatural abilities fight for their right to still be seen as human, while the world's powers seek to exploit them for their own selfish ends.Set in Japan, you play as a rag-tag group of teenagers seemingly bound by fate. They've been tasked with searching for other wayward children affected by 'The Altering' and bringing them to one of four rehabilitation centers built across the country. But, in the midst of their assignment, the team runs afoul of a very sinister plot.
__Director's Note : Hello, and thank you for taking the time to audition for this casting call! This will be the first of several rounds of auditions for Project: Sparrow. This first round focuses on the protagonists in the project itself.
I am looking for a more grounded portrayal. While these characters and the world are inspired by anime, I am not too keen on the tropes and "quirks" related to the genre's general voice direction.

Luna is a very kind, but withdrawn and introverted young woman. Easily flustered by most interactions, she doesn't have much confidence and is often spoken over. She has a creative and inquisitive mind, with a love for the arts. Most notably, drawing and dancing.
Her speaking voice is quiet, silky and very pleasant to the ear. She has an almost singsong-y intonation to her voice. Rarely does she ever yell, as her manner of speech is very mousy and somewhat rushed. Almost as if she actively regrets every word she says.

"Hello, it's--er... it's nice to meet you. I'm Luna."
"I love dancing.. It's so freeing... when I'm moving, It's like nothing else matters--like the world around me just falls away."
"You're.. asking me? I'm sorry, I.. I can't really think of anything to say."

Kyosuke is a very energetic and outspoken person. A punk in every sense of the word, he stands up for what he believes in, and helps those in need. He has little respect for government and bureaucracy, believing that they do not have the people's interests at heart.
Kyosuke has a confidence to his voice but he himself is generally soft-spoken, only ever raising his voice in excitement, protest, or anger. His voice is bright but low, with a 'bouncy' sort of enunciation to his words. Although not pleasant in the same way as Luna's more musical tone, Kyosuke's voice is very calming.
The vocal equivalent of tea.

"Hey, how's it hangin'? You guys doing alright today?"
"...Do you think we're fucking stupid? Just tell us the truth; why did you call us all in here?"
"Alright, dickhead. Let's see if you're still laughing after I knock your fucking jaw loose."

Rin is a loud, carefree, and excitable young lady. Always looking for something to do, she is never in the same spot for longer than 5 minutes. Impatient and brash, she rarely takes "no" for an answer.
She doesn't hide her emotions, and let's her face tell an entire story before she even opens her mouth.
Rin's voice is very bright and orotund. To many, it's reminiscent of fondant; very sweet, but too much at one time is deeply overwhelming. She exclaims more than she speaks, and fires off words like a turret.

"Guys, hurry the hell up! We're gonna miss the previews!!"
"Welp, I tried. Does anybody else have any *better* ideas?"
"Wouldn't that be awesome? I would KILL to be a superhero!"

ADDITIONAL NOTE : Mariko is 1 of 2 identical twin siblings. If you would like to audition for her role, I would ask that you also audition for the role of ‘Liliana Utsunomiya’.
Mariko is a young woman riding the border between altruism and cynicism. She keeps herself completely guarded, almost to her own detriment. In her eyes, no one can be trusted. Everyone besides her sister, that is. She's always willing to tear into someone, be it physically or emotionally.
Mari's voice is low and silvery. Almost singsong-y in nature. She speaks with a clear, but very sardonic tone, bordering on condescension with a very colorful vocabulary.

“Watch it. You’re getting entirely too comfortable. We do not know each other.”
"You are 26 and balding. I think you have bigger issues to worry about than a couple of teenagers, I dont know."
“… I swear to fucking god, I don’t get paid enough for this shit.”
Please refer to the Director's Notes for 'Mariko Utsunomiya'.
Liliana couldn’t be anymore different from her sister. An optimist by choice, she's terrifyingly good at reading people. She is able to emotionally wound someone with surgical precision, and hides her venom behind a big smile, making those on the receiving end of it none the wiser.
Lili's voice carries similarly to Mariko's, but is much lighter. The way they emote is very different as well. Mari leading her expressions with a scowl, and Lili beginning hers with a smile. Whereas Mari would speak with a growl if she were upset, her sister instead takes on a more deadpan tone. In addition to this, she speaks in one-worded statements to stifle conversation.

“Some people don't think before they speak, and hey! That is okay!”

Naoki is a lively, free-spirited young man. Always willing to help anyone he meets, he is a pillar of hope for those around him. His optimism bleeds into everything he does, never giving in to despair or hopelessness.
A playful and gentle giant, he never takes himself too seriously. But, that playfulness belies a staunch and steadfast ally who is willing to put his life on the line for those he loves.
Naoki's voice is very distinct. Leading with an pattern of speech formed from only ever learning to speak by way of country bumpkins and former street urchins, it's boisterous, endearing, and convivial. His voice is deeper than most boys' his age and strong enough to reach volumes that can cut through stadium crowds. He'll never have to worry about being misheard.

An enigmatic and asocial young man, André is a person of few words, and even fewer explanations. His cold demeanor is a repellent to most and he prides himself on that fact. However, this is all a clever ruse.
He has more love to give than anyone else in the world. But that bleeding heart of his was buried a long time ago, and he doesn't remember where he left it.
André's voice is smoky and sharp, always spoken with an uninterested, almost facetious tone. His words carry like bricks; they are often thrown at those on the receiving end or used to build walls to keep others from getting too close.
