I Hope So is a webcomic that follows the story of three lionesses who fight against the dangers of nature, and learn the value of found family. It is inspired by the independent animated series, My Pride, but is in no way affiliated with it. It is but a different take on the same concept. The story also lends themes from animal classics such as Watership Down and The Animals of Farthing Wood.
RULES FOR AUDITIONING
DUE DATE: August 20th, 2022
Please read the comic prior to auditioning.
At minimum, record with a USB mic. Clean audio quality (no pops or heavy background noise)
Must be 16+ years old to audition.
DO NOT ADD VOICE EFFECTS TO YOUR AUDITION.
General touch-ups for noise removal and clarity is fine, but ultimately, we want to hear YOUR voices for these characters and YOUR voice-acting skills!
Please record them in AABBCC format.
Give me your *BEST* growl / roar, or other lion noise AT THE END.
This way I know you read the rules and I can tell if you can pull off a good lion sound for the comic.
Please note if a character is trans. We only want trans VA’s to play trans characters.
For the HIGHLIGHTED characters who are not simply trans. We prefer people who fall into or near those identities, but unlike the trans characters it's not DO or DIE.

Gender: Female
Personality: Hopeful, as her name implies, is a born optimist. She has never let the fact that she is missing a leg get her down and is determined to fit into family life and contribute to her pride.
Mother? Do, um… Don’t you think it’s time I get a name? Since I’m… not a cub anymore.
Wow! You’ve grown so much! Is that a mane? I think you look very handsome.
*enraged* He killed Clever! It’s his fault she’s dead- Him and that white lion-

Gender: Female
Personality: As a Traveler, Storm’s home is the world. She is a free spirit who has a “no worries” attitude that has carried her through life. She is proud of her culture, and represents a better life for Hopeful, who she develops very deep feelings for early on.
May I know the name of the Travelers newest follower…? “Cute?” That name suits you.
It’s so much easier having you hunt with me! My brother is so lazy- he’d rather catch a picker and call it a day.
The traveler teaches us to respect the land and everyone in it. It’s why no true traveler will ever lay their claws on you. We’re all family.

Gender: Female
Personality: Carries the confidence and experience of a lion three times her age. Adamant is the golden child of the Grove and its future Queen, so has had to carry an arrogant and cocky front to carry such a burden. Deep down, however, she is unsure of the world outside of the Grove and, when she finds herself embracing the lifestyle of a Traveler, finds herself confronting demons she never thought she had.
Den duty is perfect for you! Makes you look and smell like a hobo lion!
Just sneak out on the next hunt! It’s way more fun when we’ve got competition.

Gender: Female
Personality: Vicious isn’t named as such for no reason. Temperamental, merciless and controlling, she never passes up an opportunity to belittle Hopeful, especially as she grows older and more independent.. Much of this behavior can be attributed to Jasper’s influence, however, as she is submissive and fearful of him.
She’ll get trampled for sure. Or worse, hurt one of her other legs. No. I’m not letting her hunt.
You will no longer meet with that tramp, or I will tell your father of this.
*disbelief turning cold hearted* She- she should’ve backed off! It’s her own fault, it’s what you get when you disrespect your parents…

Gender: Male
Personality: A kind, courteous soul who cared for his pride and family. A good boy, basically. A diplomat who preferred to settle disputes and protect his territory and family with the least amount of violence.
Never harm a cub. A kings heirs are more important than his own life. A prideless king will know nothing of this and threaten harm.

Personality: A mother to everyone in the pride, particularly Hope. The complete opposite of her sister, Vicious: supportive, loving and accepting.
It was the will of the great king that she lived. She has the soul of a survivor.
Get up! You must get up! The pride won’t wait… You were very brave last night…
*angry* I’ve stood by and watched you hurt all of them. My sisters. You’re daughters. But now you’ve killed one of us, you’re no king! I will not allow this to continue!

Personality: Thoughtful and always cautious. Her cubs are her world and everything she does is for their benefit.

Gender: Male
Personality: Secondary antagonist. An unrepentant asshole. Has absolutely no respect for anyone but himself and is just foul to his entire family. Like all bullies, he is a lying coward deep down.
You’re being hysterical. It’s cruel to even keep it alive. But if you want to get attached then fine. I’ll get my heirs one way or another.
*taunt* Oh- you should’ve been there Clever. Merry really thought we would have entertained his request for peaceful negotiations!

Gender: Male
Personality: Our main antagonist. Cold and calculating. A feared dictator who views everything as a business transaction, so a CEO type, essentially. However, he loves his wife and kids and wants nothing but the best for them.
*annoyed/composed* I truly don’t care whether she minds or not.
At least this one is quiet. But I’m sure you’ll scream. They always do- in the end. It beckens the Traveler sooner, I suppose.
This is the second time you’ve sent me the most worthless of your kingdom to join my pride. Do you take me for a fool?

Gender: Nonbinary trans masc
Personality: Sees the good in everything and never allows themselves to be down. Due to this, however, they are uncertain about their future as King so can be unconfident at times, especially when confronted with the mortality of their grandfather, Obsidian.
OH- I wish I had the balls to admit I’m a squire before trading insults with the future king of the mountains! Now state your business or else I will do my job.
You know, I’ve had a long night. Can we talk about this in the morning?
I know you’re worried about who will look after the pride after you pass. I just don’t want to think about it all the time. It’s hardly wholesome.

Pronouns: He/him
Gender: Male
Personality: His pride's Jester, cheerful and always willing to lend a sympathetic ear. He is also the voice of reason when it comes to disputes between Diamond and Obsidian.
*Yawning* Come on Obsidian. It’s time to turn in.
You gonna try and have ‘the talk’ with them again?
Why don’t you go down to the void and meet them there? That way you can cut them off from sneaking around you with one of their little escape tunnels.

Gender: Male
Personality: Our own personal Mufasa. A honorable, kind King who views all of his subjects as his equals and is renowned for his leadership in the area. Is aware that his current life is drawing to a close, so is occupied with passing down the title of King to the pride's rightful Heir, Diamond.
Now that’s an idea! You get some sleep love. I’ll won’t be long!... Hopefully.
It’s reality- it’s not wholesome. The Traveler could come for me any day now, and I just want you to be prepared.
What I’m trying to say is that the world can be a cruel place. I just want you to be prepared for that. Overcome it. Thats how this Kingdom has survived for generations.

Personality: The dutiful Knight to King Obsidian and King Opal. A proud warrior who has not let old age diminish their service and is always willing to rush into battle for their pride, which requires their Kings to remind them to stop and think things through sometimes.

Pronouns: She/her
Gender: Female
Personality: A cautious and morose figure due to being a Traveler in a pride's territory. Is a devoted mother to Storm and Wind, nonetheless, and takes great comfort and pride in her belief in the Traveler, which is something she's passed down to her children.
You should go back to the Golden Grove, cub. Your pride is probably looking for you.
Water is sacred and too precious for anyone to own. It’s more important than even food. Drink at every opportunity.
