Emberfate: Tempest of Elements
Project Overview
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Set in regular modern-day life, you are the leader of a raiding guild in the world's hottest MMORPG, Emberfate: Tempest of Elements. Balance the intricacies of being a raid leader, ranging from preparing for boss battles or distributing loot, to managing the intricate relationships you have with your fellow players. Engage in conversations with your guildmates, listen to their troubles — and maybe pursue one of the three possible love interests to build a romantic relationship of your own!
Take charge of your own fate, and shape the future of those around you. In Emberfate, everyone is dealing with something, and your choices and support could make all the difference.
FEATURES
- 3 romanceable love interests
- Fully voiced dialogue (raid comms and voice / video calls with the love interests)
- A rich colorful cast of side characters to bond with
- An immersive experience to scratch the MMORPG nostalgic itch
FURTHER PROJECT DETAILS
- This is a romance visual novel, with one male love interest, one female love interest and one non-binary love interest. MC is player-customizable and does not have a fixed gender / background.
- This will be a PWYW / free release on Itch.io, and later put on Steam if funds allow. There is the possibility of adding extra content later down the line in the form of a commercial / paid DLC, whereupon the cast of voice actors might be approached to do more voiceover work for new lines.
- This project is currently in development for the amare game jam, which means the project submission deadline is end of April. Progress will be evaluated in mid-April to decide if it's more realistic to push out only a demo for the game jam and wrap up the project in May or June, but finishing the full game by end of April is the tentative goal.
- Many of the main and side characters are minorities: LGBTQIA+, people of color, neurodivergent, mentally ill, disabled, etc.
AUDITION DETAILS
- As mentioned, the current plan is to release the game by the end of April for the game jam. This means, if everything goes well, all lines will be delivered to the voice actors soon after being cast, and the lines will have to be recorded and delivered by 27th April.
- This is subject to change if the plan changes to only releasing a demo for the game jam, which will be decided before the audition deadline — but for now, April is the tentative goal, so please make sure that if you're auditioning, you will still be able to meet this strict recording deadline if need be.
- All roles listed here are the side characters, so it's estimated that each character will have 10 to 30 lines.
- Pay will be fixed at US$1 per line with no royalties from the game sales or donations. (I'm sorry, I really would like to do higher, but since it's a game jam project that will be released for free, my budget is a bit limited.)
- Please note that one line is not necessarily one sentence, but in general, you can expect the length of each line to be somewhat like the audition lines below.
- All payment will be made via PayPal.
- A contract will have to be signed once it's confirmed that you'll be doing voiceover work for one of the roles, so please be 18+ and be willing to sign a contract PDF with your real name.
- Even if your mic quality isn't the best, give it a shot anyway! Since the project is going for the immersive MMO experience, where some of your raiders will not always have the best mic, not having a super professional mic setup is not going to be held against you when I'm considering auditions.

Previously an esports player for a different video game, she is now retired and going back to school. While no longer playing competitively, she enjoys spending her free time chilling on the popular MMORPG, Emberfate. She is the main tank for the MC's raiding guild. Personality-wise, she is more of a mature, serious, cool-headed person. She may not joke around as much as the rest of the guild does, but she cares about them fiercely like the protective, dependable big sister of the family.
** Note: She is a white, bisexual female in her mid-20s. Voice talent who are bisexual are especially welcome to audition for this (and if you feel comfortable doing so, you can send me a private message letting me know you are part of this minority group and auditioning for this role, and I'll definitely prioritize that when considering auditions.)
[You're grabbing back aggro of the boss after a scuffed pull that almost causes the raid to wipe]
(Calm, focused) No, it's fine, I got it. It's on me now. I'll start pulling it to the back slowly.
[You have to leave in the middle of a dungeon because your roommate is almost burning down the kitchen]
(Slightly stressed and concerned, very apologetic) I'm so sorry, I hate to do this, but I think I have to go. My roommate is yelling something about a fire, and I need to go check on her.
An accountant by day, a stealthy Shadowblade on the popular MMORPG, Emberfate, by night. A silly jokester at heart who loves laughing and making people laugh, but not shy at all speaking her mind if someone were to piss her off.
** Note: She is an Asian lesbian female. Please only audition if you are Asian. Voice talent who are also lesbian are especially welcome to audition for this (and if you feel comfortable doing so, you can send me a private message letting me know you are part of this minority group and auditioning for this role, and I'll definitely prioritize that when considering auditions.)
[You are discussing with a friend in the raid what loot will drop from the next boss]
(Joking, mock threateningly, slight laugh in tone) If you jinx it, I'll reach through the screen to strangle you, I swear.
[You died in the raid after failing to dodge an attack]
(Slightly frustrated, guilty) Damn it. I'm sorry, I screwed up there. Couldn't dodge in time.
One of the off-tanks for MC's raiding guild who knows the lore of Emberfate like the palm of her hand. In real life, she also works from home in her online business and does very well for herself. All in all, a sociable and friendly person who has way too much energy for someone who seems to never sleep.
** Note: She is a white trans female. Please only audition if you are part of this minority group. If you don't feel comfortable openly auditioning, please feel free to send me a private message with a link to your audition file.
[You're talking to a friend during raid who just mentioned having lunch when it's night time for you]
(Slightly surprised / confused at start, then turns teasing) Lunch? Oh right, he's the weirdo living on the opposite side of the earth.
[You're rambling about your favorite subject — the lore of Emberfate — to one of the newer players, before another friend cuts you off in exasperation]
(Excited, passionate) Did you not watch that cutscene at the start of Tempest of Elements? It actually brought back one of the antagonists from the previous expansion, which I'm so excited to see, since that would theoretically tie up so many loose ends as to —
Jokingly called the boomer of the guild although he's not even the oldest, he's gone from being an uncle to being a proud father of his newborn daughter. Currently sleep-deprived and somewhat cranky as a result, he's generally a wholesome and warm person who gives amazing advice and is the loving dad of the guild.
** Note: He is a Middle Eastern male. Please only audition if you are also of that ethnicity!
[The raid is discussing whether to make another attempt or call it for the night]
(Apologetic, slightly stressed out and grumpy) Well, I'd be down for another attempt, but — as you can hear from my background, Rachel won't stop crying. I'm sorry.
[You are talking about your newborn daughter to your friends]
(Excited, proud, happy) She's beautiful, isn't she? She has the sweetest smile. And she's already so smart. Did I tell you what she did the other day?
A highly intelligent, massively nerdy genius who offers excellent free tech support to friends. Unfortunately, she can be a bit too rational and logical, as well as coming off as being too arrogant or a know-it-all to those who don't know her, so she struggles with making friends in real life and spends most of her time online.
[You're discussing with the raid whether to call it for the night after losing some members who have to leave]
(Somewhat frustrated) There's no way we'll kill the boss when we're missing two people. We might as well save ourselves the deaths and durability loss.
[You're discussing raid strategies with the leaders]
(Serious) That's not going to work. Here, I'll run a quick sim to confirm — the raid does not output enough DPS to use that strat.
The innocent, little brother of the guild, he is one of the youngest among the guild members as a high school senior. Hyperenergetic, easily excitable and talkative, he's a bundle of excitement and joy who is probably on Emberfate far more than he should be at the cost of neglecting his schoolwork.
** Note: He is a neurodivergent Asian male with autism and ADHD. Please only audition if you are Asian. Voice talent who are neurodivergent are especially welcome to audition for this (and if you feel comfortable doing so, you can send me a private message letting me know you are and auditioning for this role, and I'll definitely prioritize that when considering auditions.)
[You just made a mistake that almost wiped the raid]
(Panicking, apologetic) Gahhhh, no no no, I'm so sorry!
[You and your raid finally managed to kill a difficult boss]
(Excited, happy) I can't believe this! That was awesome! I knew we could do it!
An easy-going guy who is admittedly not the best at playing video games, but he tries and is always happy to receive advice and learn more from others. Known for having a horrible mic that makes him sound like he's from outer space.
** Note: He is an Asian asexual male. Please only audition if you are an Asian male. Voice talent who are asexual are especially welcome to audition for this (and if you feel comfortable doing so, you can send me a private message letting me know you are and auditioning for this role, and I'll definitely prioritize that when considering auditions.)
[You're being welcomed to the raid after joining for the first time]
(Happy, enthusiastic) Thanks! I'm hyped to be here! Thanks for taking a chance on me!
[You're repeating yourself after people can't understand what you're saying because your mic is too bad]
(Slightly exasperated with a hint of a laugh) I said, I think — you know what? I'll just type it in guild chat.
A rich, successful CEO of his own company — with a drinking problem that he won't admit to. He's a proud, inexpressive man who shows his love in the form of gifts and money and is now suffering from marriage problems.
[You're being asked about your tendency to drink.]
(Upset, cold) I don't want to talk about it. Stop asking.
[You're talking to a friend about your marriage problems]
(Sad, uncomfortable, slightly desperate) Do you think you can... talk to her about it, maybe? She... won't listen to me. I'm... not sure what else I can do.
A smooth, charming man who's a bit of a flirt but knows how to be respectful with women. Very charismatic if he wants to be and popular with people. A very loyal and loving person who values family and friends above all.
** Note: He is a Black male. Please only audition if you are of that ethnicity!
[You're talking to a female friend about running a dungeon together]
(Flirtatious, joking) Well, I'm always happy to go on an adventure with you, though I admit an orc-filled dungeon is not exactly the most romantic spot.
[You're confessing your feelings to a woman you've been interested in for a while]
(Genuine, heartfelt, slightly uncertain) I think you're a wonderful person, and you deserve to be happy. And I'd like to try and make you happy again... if you'd let me.
