Echoes of Barenziah: A Skyrim Thieves Guild Expansion Mod (Winter 2022)

Echoes of Barenziah: A Skyrim Thieves Guild Expansion Mod (Winter 2022)

Project Overview

This is a quick casting call to fill roles for our upcoming alpha releases this coming January. A previous casting call was issued earlier this year.

The majority of dialogue lines are completed and ready for recording right away. We're hoping to have these lines all voice-acted in our upcoming release if possible, so VAs with immediate availability (January 3-15) are especially welcome, but we will work with you to set out reasonable deadlines.

Previous applicants are welcome to re-audition.

--------------

Echoes of Barenziah is a mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (Special Edition) that transforms the game’s Thieves Guild into a more complex, rewarding, and immersive faction. We are enhancing the questlines, introducing player choice, and expanding the faction’s characters in breadth and depth.

Of course, at the heart of any transformative project are stories and the characters that bring them to life. Echoes adds several new engaging NPCs with accompanying dialogue, while revoicing and expanding dialogue for a select few from the original game.

What You'll Find:

  • Dialogue crafted by an experienced writing team (including several actors and dedicated lore specialists) who understand the nuances of writing believable, personality-infused dialogue.
  • Interesting, engaging, and diverse characters that breathe new life into Skyrim’s criminal underbelly while staying true to the game’s aesthetic.
  • A rewarding collaboration space that includes LGBTQIA2S+ creators invested in representation.

What We Need:

  • High-quality voice acting for a wide variety of characters. New voice acting should integrate seamlessly into the existing game.
  • Several roles require multiple recording sessions as we are releasing the mod first as an alpha (early 2022) followed by the beta later in 2022. Please note that by auditioning, you are agreeing to reprise your role at a later date to record additional dialogue.
  • We welcome both experienced and novice voice actors to this project. Don't be deterred by the listed accents; consider those suggestions. If you think you have a voice that suits a character, we want to hear it!

Role Size:

Roles are listed by general size in order from largest to smallest. The final line-count of the roles is in flux as we coordinate completion of the final draft, but will not differ significantly from the size listed. Please ask either on the page or via DM if you have any questions.

We can make certain schedule accommodations, but we do our best to hit our release deadlines and ask that voice actors commit to doing the same.

Rating and Triggers:

As Skyrim is MA-rated, so too does Echoes touch on some adult subjects -- but nothing straying beyond the tone of the original game.

Echoes contains some potentially triggering subject matter (indicated accordingly on the character roles). These elements are handled with sensitivity, with varied "own voices" creators providing input. Please refer to the warnings and consider your comfort level.

Technical Details:

Please audition with the recording setup you intend to use for all of your voice acting. Refrain from editing your audio beyond minor cleanup (removing bad takes, light noise reduction).

You may audition for as many characters as you wish! We're happy to consider you for multiple roles. Just let us know how many characters you can comfortably commit to voicing.

Parveeya (Redguard)

Unpaid
Role assigned to: EggBerryArtz

Parveeya is the first mate of the Dainty Sload and this desert-born woman understands the realities of life on the sea: how to bend with the winds, how to sway with the tides. She is shrewd and sharp-eyed and while her temper is sharp, it moves slow. She never acts without thinking things through first, no matter how hot her blood is boiling. She's a practical woman and she does what she has to, no matter what. Her speech is confident and brisk without being brusque. Parveeya is a no-nonsense woman but she is also, at heart, a negotiator and she knows how to convince other people to see her point of view...usually without having to bash their heads in.

  • Things are getting as rough as whitecaps out there, Volf, and if we don't batten our hatches and prepare to ride this storm, we'll all go down with the ship.

  • [worried] You think I wanted this? Mutiny? I'm the Dainty Sload's first mate, and that means it's my responsibility to keep this ship floating, no matter what it costs...even if it costs us our captain.

  • I'm going to run you through and feed your body to the slaughterfish!

Maralie R'en (Dunmer)

A former Legionnaire, Maralie often felt as though she was living her life in chains. It wasn't until boarding the Dainty Sload (and meeting the love of her life, Analande) that the gleam of the horizon brought a smile to her face instead of a grimace of envy. She isn't going to give up the beautiful freedom of the seas--or her fiery-tempered beloved--for anything, not even the captain whose ship first lifted the illusory shackles from her limbs. Her voice is gruff and stern but not cruel. She's used to barking orders to her fellow sailors (and to shouting for Analande to stay out of trouble, although the latter goes unheeded more often than not).

She is also prone to singing idly--sea shanties, for the most part--and has a low, pleasant voice. We thus ask that anyone auditioning for her provide a link to a SINGING SAMPLE in addition to the voiced lines below.

  • You'll be wanting to watch yourself. Coarse ship's ropes are rough on uncalloused hands.

  • [distraught] Analande, my love! Breathe! Just breathe. Stay with me, you useless fool!

  • [furious] I'll gut you like a fish, n'wah!

Bryar (Bosmer)

Unpaid
Role assigned to: nerdalie

Bryar is a Wood Elf immigrant to Skyrim. She became lost in a snowstorm when she was younger and was saved by a mage, Svart, one of the last Nordic Clever Men. She joined him as an acolyte when he recognized her keen connection to the Green magic of the Wood Elves. Svart and his acolytes, Bryar and Hran, take up residence in Snow Veil Sanctum in a new Thieves Guild hideaway after a dungeon-oriented quest.

Her accent is slightly cockney if you like, but only slight. Bryar has been gone from Valenwood for a long time, she's largely lost her accent. Her dialogue is blunt, short. She says as little as possible.

  • (normal speaking voice) I'm Bryar. Hello.

  • (sarcastic, deadpan) The Nords get testy about people eating their dead.

  • (yelling over people arguing) How is this helping anything?!

Hran Vinterfeld (Nord)

Unpaid
Role assigned to: Karmen Kay

Hran is an obsequious Nord mage desperate to impress his master, Svart, who is a traditionalist Nordic Clever Man. He's trying to project confidence and mastery that he doesn't have, and fails to realize mastery of magic does not equate to mastery of the Clever Craft. Svart and his acolytes, Bryar and Hran, take up residence in Snow Veil Sanctum in a new Thieves Guild hideaway after a dungeon-oriented quest.

Accent is slight Scandanavian, but tilting toward British/RP. Hran is from a noble Nordic family, but has been influenced by Elven culture at the College of Winterhold.

  • (normal speaking voice) I've mastered spells from every school of magic.

  • (desperate) I've finished outlining these glyphs, Master Svart. See?! May I work with the ancient runes now?!

  • (yelling) Do not disturb me! I'm trying to summon a thu'um!
