Doomsday Paradise: Kickstarter Dreams
Project Overview
Introduction - The Game
Doomsday Paradise is a multiplayer dating game where you have five days to find love before the end of the world. You can check it out on Steam here. The game itself is goofy and has a light hearted, relaxed atmosphere. The project is nearing the end of its development, and I'm looking to give some voices to the Kickstarter-backed rewards. The art posted below is their rough concepts, since they're still in the production pipeline. You can check the Steam Page, trailer, or website for a better feel for how the game looks / feels in practice but of course that's not required to audition.
I highly recommend skimming through a playthrough of the game from Steam Next Fest to get an idea of how these are used in practice. Here's one such video.
Scope of Each Role
There are three types of roles present here. I pay $5/line.
One romance option. This character has 14 lines and the full rate is $70. Their lines are flavor and meant to add texture to the dialogue. They should be relatively short but convey feeling / emotion.
Seven enemy characters. These characters have 5 lines and the rate is $25. For many of these characters I'm looking for sounds / flavor more than words.
Four minions. These characters have one line and the comp is $5. A minion only has focus for about 3 seconds, so lines that are longer than that will overlap with others (read as: that's a no-go). Minions casting is more for fun for fans of the game than anything, so I'm going to admit right here that there will probably be some bias in their casting not present for other roles.
Requirements
- Up to 3 takes for each line. If you send me more, I will discard your audition.
- Please do not slate your audition.
- Please submit auditions in whatever file format sounds best. CHECK YOUR AUDITION FOR COMPRESSION ISSUES AFTER IT IS UPLOADED!
- Please include your email address and/or Discord username, if you have one, with your audition. I'll need to contact you to arrange payment, sign contracts, etc., afterwards.
- Please record in a quiet space free of background noise! I'll be using the takes to figure out how the final production will sound after all!
Getting Cast
Once you've been cast, if you agree to the role, you'll receive a quick contract establishing my rights to use the voice lines commercially, and solidifying payment terms and conditions. Upon signing the contract, you will officially receive the part.
Payment
Payment will be sent via PayPal after your lines have been recorded. Roles are priced at $5/line, which comes out to $70/character.
TIPS- I have a document from the first round of auditions last year with my advice / takeaways. You can find it here.- The most common mistakes are poor mic quality, overacting, and submitting a take that's way off the game's tone.- These lines will play many times a game- I'll be asking questions such as "will this line get annoying after the fifth listen? Tenth? Hundredth?"
TIPS part two- creature noises need to fit the pacing of the combat system and also the tone/atmosphere of the game.

An inquisitive scatterbrain- Brymelle's is extremely curious and always concocting up new experiments. Unfortunately, she's extremely easily distracted and often leaves her experiments in unstable and dangerous states. Brymelle frequently verbalizes what she's thinking (example: She might say "Smile!" when happy).
The KS backer for this character will have input on the final casting.
As a romance option Brymelle has 14 lines. These lines are there to provide flavor- so lines that can adequately convey expression are great. Lines that are overly long will feel repetitive / drawn out, and will be a problem. I recommend no more than 2-3 seconds depending on line length.
Angry Line: "Hazardous Material Found!"
Flavor Line: "Test Subject Found!"
Love/Affection Line: "Heartbeat... Accelerating!"
Skulldweller is an eldritch creature that inhabits a three eyed skull. It wears down its foes with poison before moving in for the kill.
Skulldweller is floaty and not necessarily "angry." Concepts that I think bring to mind what I expect Skulldweller to sound like:
1. Otherworldly / eldritch. Something alien and strange.
2. Unnerved, anxious, the clicking of beaks- picking up the phone only to hear breathing.
3. Something pained, raspy, grotesque.
Skulldweller was cast previously- but I'm moving the voice to another KS monster so we'll be casting this part again.
*Intro Sound* -> Skulldweller has floated into frame and sees its prey.
*Turn Sound* -> Skulldweller is starting its turn, and will immediately start attacking / defending.
*Killed Sound*
The Insect Queen is a large bug that fights alongside its hive of smaller bugs. These bugs display no real intelligence- but a great deal of aggression.
They fight by repeatedly stinging and poisoning their foes.
The Insect Queen should feel like a gigantic, loafish wasp.
*Intro* -> the Insect Queen flies in. It's detected a threat.
*Turn Start* -> The Insect Queen is about to start her turn. An ominous humming as it prepares to attack.
*Killed* -> The Insect Queen has died. This should be an extremely short sound. A weak exclamation as she dies.
Horsie is a dead horse piloted by two imps who bombard the player with fire and... well not so fun stuff.
Horsie should sound weak, ghostly, and haunting. He's essentially a specter. Mixed in, of course, are the sounds of the imps- who caw and chant like little goblins.
*Intro* -> Horsie is piloted in. A wheezing noise as he approaches the players.
*Turn Start* -> A haunting wail as Horsie prepares his turn.
*Killed* -> A weak sigh as Horsie falls apart. Needs to be very short.
A terrifying, draconic creature. Only its head can fit in frame. It attacks by smashing tentacles against the party and firing white hot beams of flame.
The creature is strong, intimidating, and powerful.
*Intro* -> A deep, low growl. Hungry, more than angry. The creature has found its meal.
*Turn Start* -> The creature roars. Its onslaught begins.
*Killed* -> One final weak roar as its head hits the ground.
The Fairy Godmother sees herself as an elegant princess. The Tooth Fairies from along the kingdom worship her, smashing in the faces of children to collect their teeth and present them as offerings. She is crazed, deranged, and ever so hungry.
Her vibe is possessed, deranged, monstrous ballerina.
In practice, we might overlap multiple takes to get the "refined" and "monstrous" aspects out. I'd try to demonstrate both- it's key to her character.
- female adult
*Intro* -> The Godmother dances to the stage. Melodious twinkling goes dark and aggressive.
*Turn Start* -> The terrifying shrill shriek of an enranged banshee, or the refined giggling of a beast hiding its true nature.
*Killed* -> The final, grating cry of a disgraced heiress who's just lost everything. She's no longer holding back her monstrous self.
The Goblin King is a cackling fanatic. Armed with his flamethrower, he seeks to burn down civilization and reclaim the surface.
They should sound like a gremlin. Happy, unhinged, having fun- wicked.
*Intro* -> The Goblin King trots onto the stage. "HELLO EVERYBODY! *giggling*"
*Turn Start* -> WEE-HEE! HAHAA!
*Killed* -> "AGH!"
The Power of Love is essentially a biblically accurate angel. Come down from above, it's an unstoppable force that has no concept of suffering, pain, or panic.
The Power of Love should sound like a cute, children's cartoon creature. Inspiration might come from Teletubbies, Furbies, Care Bears, or the like.
*Intro* -> The Power of Love gurgles as it flies onto the stage.
*Turn Start* -> The Power of Love lets out some kind of chirp.
*Killed* -> The Power of Love lets out an excited cry before vanishing into glitter and starlight.
The deranged squaking of one of Horsie's imps.
These lines are pure flavor.
It should be no longer than 2-3 seconds MAXIMUM. This minion has multiple lines- because there will be multiple imp minions.
*Chanting*
*Squacking*
As a minion, feel free to write your own lines you feel like would be fun for the character. Minions have only a single line- so while there are suggestions below I'll only be using one. If you get the part I'll likely just use your audition.
No more than 2-3 seconds.
*Say something you think would fit*
HEY HEY HEY!
Let's ROCK AND ROLL!
Suzana's bored, capable... and maybe a little violent.
