Dockheads

Dockheads

Project Overview

Hi! My name is Kyle, and I’m working on a 2D animated/live action model hybrid show with my friends about sentient trucks and cranes with a comedic/adult themed twist for YouTube called “Dockheads”.

The show is about a group of sentient machines in the 1960s experiencing life through their tough and messed up work environment in a rundown port in New Jersey.

The show is in very early production and no props have been built yet, right now we’re just testing the waters.

I should note, the tone I’m going for here is like an adult sitcom where the conversations the characters have are quick, realistic and natural.

I recommend before you audition to watch the animatic scene I linked down below to get a better feel of what these characters sound and talk like, and the overall pacing/vibe of the show. :-)

Crosby is a green, flatbed truck who understands the importance of his job but gets angry when someone does not take work seriously. He finds his coworker, Baldwin, to be incredibly annoying and does not trust him with anything at all. He has insane mood swings and can just go back to being an easygoing and nice guy.

His character is firmly rooted in his belief that he is the most competent one on the team, and that translates to very thin patience and makes him quick to anger. Whether it's conscious to him or not, he's constantly in a state of exhaustion with everyone and everything around him (especially Baldwin), and it comes out in a loud, abrasive personality

He speaks in a slightly high pitched dry/raspy New Jersey accent. He is tired and angry almost all the time. However when he snaps, he YELLS. He has a really loud and shrill yelling voice. His voice is not cartoony and wacky, it's rather human, fast paced and realistic.

Wilson is a brown forklift who is very delusional. He thinks he was involved in several instances that involved war and always has a crazy insane story to tell the others, but in reality, the stories he tells never even happened. He can get very panicky when it comes to danger in the port, often having an overreaction.

He talks in a very deep, deadpan, slight New Jersey accent. Think Sam Elliot but if he was from New Jersey. The only time he doesn’t talk with a deadpan voice is if he’s panicking. He will yell loud and shrill enough that it scares everyone around him. Like a deranged drill sergeant.

His voice is not cartoony and wacky, it's rather human, fast paced and realistic.

  • (deadpan and slightly annoyed voice) "They snuck into the port last night and poured wet cement on my forks.."

  • (deadpan and cold voice) "Hmmm.. What if we snuck into their base while they’re occupied and place fuel cans around the perimeter. Just like ‘52 when me and my squad were outnumbered 3 against 12-"

  • (panicking and yelling voice) "HE'S GOT A BOMB!!!. MOVE OUT!! TAKE COVER!!!"

Fisher is a blue, mobile crane who is the POV character of the show. He’s the newest member of the team and is like an intern fresh out of college, no experience, overly nice, innocent, curious and helpful contrast to everyone around him who are actually insane. He has not been "tainted" by his work environment yet. He will notice suspicious activity in the port and alert the others but the others will not care or question it

He talks in a natural, young adult voice. If he was a human, he'd be like in his early 20s.
