Deltarune: Dark Edition Episode One Call [CASTING CONCLUDED]
Project Overview
What is D:DE?
Deltarune: Dark Edition is a fanmade AU project that aims to encompass a colossal expansion to the dark world. Covering the tales of three completely original and unique kingdoms alongside the Card kingdom, this project takes it's spiral into a dark edged spinoff more seriously than the only kid who showed up to school in costume on Halloween.
In a nutshell, the project itself is vast in proportion. A very large portion of the work for the series goes on behind the scenes, so we hope that you will understand our... vague casting.
The vague casting (Explained)
As you've likely noticed, none of the voice roles are directly named. In fact, naught but small glimpses to the character are given, paired quite deliberately with forgettable lines. As we work so much behind the scenes, even the characters in our story could give away a huge amount for any given episode. Thus, this is how things will be done.
When you audition for a character, we will reach out to you on discord. Discord is required for this project.
From there, we will take you into a group chat and talk to you about the character you auditioned for in brief detail. If all goes well and you are still comfortable with your character once they have been revealed, you will be cast.
It goes without saying that sharing any of the information you may find in the Discord server or through the casting process is greatly frowned upon. Please, respect our veil of secrecy.
THE CASTING HAS CONCLUDED
Hello, everyone! The D:DE team would like to thank you for your whopping 200+ auditions on our first episode's casting call. We got so many auditions from so many talented people, and I (the director) could hardly be happier.
Given that we are a project who only has trailers to show thus far, I am simply ecstatic at the amount of enthusiasm we've gotten thus far.
If your reading this, episode one's casting has been concluded. We are not currently accepting any more auditions, and you will likely not receive a response should you put one in past the given date.
We sincerely hope that you'll look forward to our future casting calls. Please be patient while we get our story ready!
What do we need VAs for?
When it comes to a characters voice, we... rather, I find the most important thing to be that the voice is believable. It can tear someone out of the immersion when you see a character present themselves only to have a voice that just... doesn't quite work.
In that same logic, I find it too tedious to sample from any given number of options in media when we could get a VA and create the text sounds required for the character that way, instead.
Not only will there be a voiced version of every episode, a characters vocal effects (laughs, shouts, etc.) will also be derived from the VA to ensure that we have the greatest control over our presentation.
How long will the project go?
D:DE is a very long term project. If you sign up, we will do our best to respect your schedule, but it is imperative to understand that it may not conclude for years to come.
As for such, we expect that you are prepared to be in it for the long haul if you join us. Again, this project has a very large story to tell, and we are determined to tell it. There's little that can be disclosed about the intended length, but rest assured...
We don't intend to create a one off.
What are the requirements for this project?
The basics are expected for auditionees. Quality gear helps you land your role, and willingness to work closely with us and accept critique is a must have. Communication is key among our group, so talking to us when you hit a snag or if something concerns you is expected.
Discord is also required for this project. All of the organization and communication occurs there, and as it can be accessed for free on browser without even having to install anything, it is expected. No matter how good you are, if we can't communicate easily, you won't get in.
Anything else, Mr. talks-a-lot?
No, that about covers it...
Though, there is one more thing.
D:DE as a project is intended to be the first step into a groups production of many original or spinoff works to come... Consider D:DE the first step into production.
Once this project concludes, all willing members of the active group will be invited to move forward into original works in the future as a sort of company rather than a simple group. We will not be calling people into the group who have not worked with us, so if you like what you see at any point during our casting process...
Feel free to throw your hat into the ring.
Lastly...
Please keep in mind that this is a fan project, and as an AU will have no impact on Deltarune itself.
This is a passion project at it's core, and will likely reap it's own community. We hope to offer as open and as welcoming a community as possible, but that starts with you. Please be respective and supportive of others.

Latest Updates

Some of the characters seemed to be detrimented by our veil of secrecy, and thus an update has been added to list them by name (we also gave them each a pin for visual reference. This couldn't have been done without our artist, AlliesImagination!) Additionally, we have extended the deadline to make up for the time that could have been spent auditioning with the knowledge that these characters were present. We look forward to your future auditions! Thank you.

Quick tweak to grammer
A few lines in the auditions had some improper grammar (Not using the proper versions of certain words being our main culprit). This has been fixed. Please let us know if any of the other grammar has managed to slip through our fingers. That is all.
The character
This individual came as a package deal with one of the more outrageous additions to our cast... and they aren't very pleased. Generally, they only adhere to the code of the pirate group they originate from, and stray from formality wherever possible. They find their current situation rather drab, and prefer to live life for themselves over others. While they aren't exactly a troublemaker, trouble seems to follow their presence like a shadow, lurking just out of sight of any light that happens to be brought unto their intentions.
Their crew (And more specifically their captain) is the only soft spot that exists on this bored and hardened individual, leaving few redeeming qualities for others to pick from. Low on energy but high on wit, this strong souled individual will step up to the plate when their needed... and no more than that.
The voice
The accent that we're looking here is most closely Australian. We're looking for a voice that can hold a dry, sarcastic tone on a scale of low energy and low enthusiasm forfeit only to exaggerated emotions (Primarily anger or shock). As a pirate, there is a desire for this voice to mix in a twinge of that classic pirate-esque grit into the accent.
he character will have their exaggerated moments, so while the withheld tone is important, it's also important not to go overboard. The Australian accent and the Pirate accent are interchangeable, but the Australian accent is preferable. Please keep in mind that the voice should try to incorporate both if possible.
Oh, bugger off with your rules. Of anyone you could preach to, does it have to be me? My headache and I have about seven reasons to clobber you, and if you keep it up that numbers just gonna keep on climbin'.
Every now and again, I get to thinkin... Wild, I know. There just so happens to be a little somethin' up in the noggin, eh?
Anyways, thinking isn't something I plan to make into a hobby, but from time to time it's a hard thing to avoid.
So I'll take one more round, bartender. If you call me that again, I'll put a dent in your head so large you'll get mistaken for a Hathy!
Er, no offence.
The character
This infamous individual is a frowned upon force in the kingdom. In one of the kingdoms darkest hours, the kings competition wreaked havoc upon the stability of the kingdom. In desperate need of firepower, a hand was extended to an unlikely individual... an outlaw. The numbers of the faction they lead and the devastating strength they wield were enough to balance out the kingdoms temporary fragility. With this faction as an allied force, it's fearsome militaristic reputation was restored... but it came at a cost. The outlaw's condition was to take part in the Kings competition, not only giving them royal standing, but the opportunity to claim the land for their own!
It is unlikely that the people will pick them as their leader, but with the peril that threatens the kingdom, their might is looking more and more appealing...
The voice
At it's core, this voice is a hard lean into pirate territory with a twinge of that "tough guy" trope mixed in. The voice should be rather loud and brash, and while it has it's quieter, grumblier moments, it will mostly focus on high energy. Accents are optional so long as that pirate accent is properly exaggerated. This character is a jolly one at heart, though they mostly live life for themselves. Putting great emphasis on anything beneficial to oneself is a good habit to make for this character.
P.S.
The character was inspired by... a certain show, and a signature laugh will be crafted once a person is picked. When you record your audition, the laugh is labeled as "Bwah-hah-har", but improvisation is welcome.
Aye, I like that idea!
It lets me cheat!Bwah hah har! Ye'd best not just be getting me hopes up! If it's a tussle you want... then I'll be takin' no quarter from ye!
As I say... the best way to ensure loyalty is to enforce snitchin'!
Good on ya, lad!
The character
This individual feels entitled to success, and will switch lanes on a dime if it means siding with the victor of any given confrontation. For as transparent as that is, though, no one can doubt their consistency. Known well for a disproportionate ego, they fill a role that is only called for by a vague formality- however, they treat it as if they were themselves a king!
Known for making use of a debatably incorrect echo of old English, their loyalty to the kings is renowned for it's strength... though to what king they answer seems to change as the days roll by. It is unclear whether they cling to their position for the standing of importance it brings or if they have some ulterior motive, but it doesn't take much to see through the façade...
But who knows? Maybe there's more to them than meets the eye? Only time will tell.
Update notice
This character was previously not labeled by name. "The character" portion and "The voice" portion have been updated to fit this.
See the project description for more information.
This role was previously known as "Pompous Puzzlemaker"
The voice
A loud and proud voice with a hard to place accent is the core of this voice. The ability to swap between a furious confidence and a bewildered complaint is key, as this voice won't go without it's comical moments. To hold oneself with a sense of self-imposed grandeur is a small nitpick that I (the director) will listen for. It's a very niche detail, but for those of you who don't quite get what I mean: confidence is HUGE. This is a make or break detail for me. Don't be afraid to get fancy with it, either! Roll your R's, flare your vowels... have fun with it! Exaggeration is difficult to overshoot for this character.
Beware, trespasser! For whatever calculation you may have undergone for your insensible incursion hast been without one crucial detail!
ME! Gehahaha!*sharp inhale*
You jest. Surely, you joke. Certainly, you josh. By all accounts't of logic, you must be fishing for a laugh! Yes, that's it! No-one could bypass mine trape so easily! If anyone knew what I was doing, I'd dare claim you had help!
That, however, would imply that anyone could keep up with my genius. Ha! What a thought...Ah! Ahaha! What a silly question...
You see... There's... You wouldn'st survive! Yes, the technique is made for mine sculpted physique, and would tear thine forme to pieces!
The character
The king of Spades is a strategically advantaged foe. Known for their critical thinking, their tolerance for shenanigans puts the term "none" to shame. With a cold outlook and a short fuse, their persistence is nothing short of frightening. During the war for territory, while the three factions were on standstill, he managed to direct the construction of a fortress. This very fortress would come to be the capitol point for all the kings once the treaty of the card war (The contest of kings) was struck. They are rather unhappy with the terms of the contest, however, and take the whole thing with a rather large grain of salt.
With their calculating prowess and cruel reputation on deck, however, one may be surprised to find that they are a strong familial figure. While they cling to their strong standing in the contest of kings with an iron grasp, few figures will make a more terrifying enemy if you make the mistake of bringing their family into it. For as goofy as their appearance and actions can occasionally seem, most anyone will tell you to be wary when making an enemy of them.

This role was previously known as "Calculating King"
The voice
The ideal voice is a low, demanding one. The character is very stubborn, and by no less of a factor quite stern. While a British accent is what I personally have in mind, any accent that gives off a sense of high class will do. A cold tone is favorable, as the character is attributed closely with cruelty in their unwavering sense of "If it works, there's your answer". No blow is too low, and no tactic is too cruel.
P.S.
We have decided that it is also a good idea to acknowledge the more popular take on this character's voice. Should this be easier, this take is also completely acceptable. This alternate take is rough and low, and more closely follows the sound that their text makes in the game. No accent is required for this- Instead, we're looking for an intimidating tone with a low, coarse voice. In order to match our Lancer voice, feel free to take some jabs at goofy, cartoonish inflection. Please do not go overboard with this, though.
As this is a rough voice, please be careful when auditioning.
Strategy begets victory. I live by these words, and if you think at any moment that I don't have a plan..? You've underestimated me.
Our situation is misleadingly named. To call this a kings "competition" is an insult to my every achievement! No, my victory is less a competition... and more a matter of time.
Oh, my naïve son...
Once I am the sole monarch..?
We can do anything we want!
The character
This individual boasts a grasp over their subjects that dwarfs the idea of an "iron first". With an infallible moral compass nudged only by personal perspective, they are the main head of law in the kingdom. Every royal figure has their story, and with every story comes rumor... and it goes without saying that this king is the most about business. Barely a moment of their waking hours isn't spent polishing the law (or enforcing it). Rarely does a day go by where the rumors of their bravery do not become enforced. In the face of the toughest situations or the most daunting of tasks, no-one is as efficient as he.
Campaigning on the idea that order and loyalty are the most important part of a kingdom, their faction provides the largest military force for the kingdom. In support of their words, this is not because they simple have the largest population- rather, their effective leadership strategy caused a whopping 70% of their kingdom to answer the call to arms. Thusly, their species makes up the largest section of the kingdom's fighting force... and they won't let you forget it.
The voice
The voice for this character was a difficult one to place. With a large cast, differentiating every voice came down to exaggerating a few key characteristics: And this one may not be kind on the throat.
The voice we're looking for is a coarse one. A dry, judging tone is optimal, as one that sounds on the verge of anger at all times while carrying that sand-like coarseness will do well for a vast majority of their interactions.
P.S.
We may already have a voice for this role, but the character is open for audition just in case this just so happens to be someone's specialty.
Ha, ha. You mock me in cold blood and do so with poor wit. If you expect that words are all it will take to knock me down... your safest bet is immediate surrender.
Silence! The law is the law... and it shall waver for no-one!.. ESPECIALLY under my rule.
You're just weak!
When the contest of kings bequeaths rightful claim of this land to me...
I will recall my every brave action!
The character
Being one in a crowd of many makes standing out a difficult thing. Despite that, very few things can hinder the power of dreams! This hopeful individual has dreams of becoming a standalone elite among their ranks. To their credit, they aren't at rock bottom!..
For the most part, anyways.
At the end of the day, their an average, indistinguishable soldier with high goals and higher hopes. Their an everyman in the midst of a crazy world with crazier events, but that won't stop them from giving each and every day their all.
Each. And every. Day.
Side note
This character is intentionally supposed to be difficult to blend into the crowd, and thus the best thing to do would be to cast the VA for this character to voice the rest of that enemy type. For reference, the enemy type is specifically ruddinn rangers. The role may possibly extend to other rudinns- overall, the enemy type you may end up filling is relatively common.
The voice
This voice is rather up to interpretation. While I imagine the enemy type to have a laid back, nasally voice, I really want the idea of the everyman to come through every time they show up. Please keep in mind that this is a combat oriented enemy type, so while the "laid back" bit is important, don't go too overboard. We don't want the soldiers to sound like their lazing.
Hey! It's me!
What, couldn't you tell?Yeah, alright I guess.
'Had that one coming.(This portion is optional. By reading through these, you will alert us that you are particularly willing to opt in for voicing the enemy type along with the character. We are more likely to cast someone who does this.)
- I'm just a normal person...
- Yeah, I guess that makes sense.
- Long live the guy who pays us!
The character
A kindhearted soul who's smarts and good intentions outweigh a lot of other things. Whether it be vague morals from tall tales or direct advice written by the authors of the various mediums they've have access to in their long wait, their quiet and secluded "community" leaves a lot to be desired. With little proof of a better tomorrow, the state of the world they live in left them hoping to help do better- And as any sane person would totally do they took an old legend to heart and devoted an unreasonable amount of time to seeing it through.
By a technicality, they don't count as royalty... and because their kingdom is small and recluse, a majority of the larger established kingdoms either pay them no mind or forget they exist at all.
This won't stop them from trying to carry everyone's best interests at heart, though!..
Even if it is taking a while to pay of...

The voice
The main idea is to go with a soft, reserved voice- The kind of thing you'd expect to hear in an audio book dedicated to inspirational quotes. You have an honest and innocent perspective on the world, so having confidence in your claims is important! However, as a functioning individual just like everyone else, you have your limits, and occasionally you'll need to express something other than supportive congratulations. Please keep this in mind.
Oh! It's tutorial time! I've been practicing a long time for this... I just need to find the... page... It's somewhere in this book..? Propably??
Here! I'm sure you'll find it! It's all there!Who cares if there's no proof that things will pan out the way the stories say? There's no proof, anyways! Even if things look bleak... I have no reason to lose hope!
*Long sigh*
Any day now...
Generally, our current team is fine. However, help would be appreciated... and that's why we're leaving casting for helping roles open. I (the director) like to move at a high speed in production stages, so while I intend to keep the team small, I will recruit until we can create content at a comfortable pace.
The main purpose of this audition is to get an artist who can create basic pieces for episode thumbnails and promotional pieces. That's... pretty much it.
Additionally, sprite artists are always welcome.
We are NOT currently recruiting for concept artists, and this role will not be cast to anyone until we are finished recruiting.
That is all.

I (the director) am currently the main (if not the only) designated writer for this series. It is VERY lore heavy, and in order to write for the series you will need to be willing to work in close quarter with me. For the most part, the story itself is already written... however, mico interactions (the likes of which would appear in episodes) are not set.
It will be a taxing job, so please do not audition if you don't have experience with writing or aren't prepared to do a lot of lore delving to familiarize yourself with the material.
I only intend to cast one extra writer. This role will be cast once a proper fill has been found.

This one is simple: The amount of songs required just to cover our planned cast is an enormous undertaking, and the OST is going to surpass Undertale in the amount of tracks in the series. We already have composers on deck, so we're looking for someone who is familiar with Deltarune/Undertale's music style.
FL studio is a required method for the main OST. The version required to share FLPs will be provided.

Out of all of the crew roles up for audition, this one is the most important for a simple reason: We do not have anyone designated to creating sound effects. Currently, we are well capable of creating sound effects as we need them, but it would be very helpful to have someone on board who knows what their doing.
That's... generally, that's it.
For the audition just... create some sounds. If you don't know what sounds to make, get some classic stock sound effects and make a new version.
Again, though, this Casting Call is geared towards VAs, so expect them to be reviewed before we review the crew roles.
