Dagashi Kashi Fandub (SHORT PROJECT)
Project Overview
Hello, fellow voice actors!
This is my first formal casting call for a project I'll be posting on here. It'll be mostly a test of character for myself to see if I can organize and follow through with a project that'll have a solid end product.
I will be directing and playing a role with a fandub of the first 7-8 minutes of Dagashi Kashi, a light-hearted slice-of-life anime I've grown to like since it first came out. I explain the characters roles within the story in their bio sections.
For this project, I am seeking near-professional quality. I want to get as close to pro dub quality acting as possible. This doesn't mean your mic needs to be pro-quality, though I will want clean audio with no peaking or excessive reverb. You can add some compression and noise reduction for your audition, but I will be adding it for the actual project.
For your acting, I want you to go all out! Immerse yourself in your character as much as you can. You don't have to watch Dagashi Kashi since I'll be supplying you with all the background info and context for your lines. If you have seen it, though, DO NOT try imitating the characters. This will be its own production, not a mimicry of a previous one. Almost think of it like a parallel universe to the sub and dub.

Voice type: Bass to Low Baritone
Kokonotsu's quirky and slightly overbearing yet loving father who runs a candy store (Shikada Dagashi) out of his house in a rural Japanese town. Yō is very in touch with his inner child and is often playful and over-dramatic in his delivery. Despite this, though, Yō is deadset on Kokonotsu becoming his successor, hiring Hotaru Shidare--of the Shidare candy dynasty--to help him find joy in dagashi (candy).

(walking to his son's room without knocking; serious) Kokonotsu. We need to talk.
(critiquing his son's manga without his permission; slightly snarky) Honestly it's not bad, but I think you glorify the girl character too much. Also, right here I don't entirely understand the point. Maybe you should rewrite it so it makes sense to your readers.
(after Kokonotsu give effective advice for running the shop better) SEE?! YOU'RE A DAGASHI GENIUS!! YOU TOSS AROUND GREAT IDEAS WITHOUT EVEN TRYING! YOU MUST BE THE CHOSEN HERO TO KEEP SHIKADA DAGASHI GOING!!! (getting 'punched' by his son in a parody shonen anime scene) *various grunts of pain*
Voice Type: High Mezzo to Soprano (with an extended range)
Bubbly and quirky as all getup and wearing some equally quirky attire, Hotaru is the heir of the famous Shidare Japanese candy company. Hired by Yō, she shows up at Kokonotsu's house without warning and quickly inserts herself into his life. Able to see Kokonotsu's innate skills for selling dagashi (candy), she poses many candy-coated trials for him that he must pass with flying colors.
Hotaru, much like Yō, is only serious when it comes to Dagashi. She has an otherwordly naïvety involving things outside of dagashi. I expect you to shift from serious and more grounded to full-on ham and outlandish seamlessly. She's a VERY fun role to play, I'm sure!

(mysteriously entering into Shikada Dagashi, Kokonotsu house and place of work; relatively normal delivery) Is this THE Shikada Dagashi? (beat) Well, is it? Spit it out already.
(after Kokonotsu recognizes her last name; flips the switch into ham mode; excited) So you've heard of me! *makes sounds of excited anticipation as she randomly picks up Kokonotsu's family room TV* Yep, the famous Shidare company. Not to brag or anything, but it's my dad's business!
(after Kokonotsu comes with a new way to present candy; responses as if he's speaking heresy) Grill them? Grill Umaibo? [pronounce: ū-mī-bō]
(thinking and slowly becoming more excited; almost can't contain herself) M-maybe, but it still needs something!~
Voice type: High Baritone to Low Tenor
A close friend of Kokonotsu's. The two hang out regularly at each other's houses along with Tō's sister, Saya. He is typical teenage boy, though perhaps a bit more openly perverted. He can be a ditz and a huge dork, but he always has Kokonotsu's back. Within this short, he is only heard via a voicemail left on Kokonotsu's phone. Lucky for you, this means you don't have worry about matching lip-flaps.

(friendly greeting) Hey man! How's the manga going? I bet you're totally stuck. I'm at the café with Saya. Why don't you come hang with us?
(quickly turns more perverted; dorky laugh at the end) Or we could hit up the beach! You know summer break means there's smoking-hot lady rockin' out those swimsuits, hahaha!
(realizing he got off-track) E-Either way...see you later, Coconuts! (Kokonotsu's nickname amongst friends)
Voice type: Mezzo-Soprano to High Mezzo
[While she's not in this current short project, I WILL be looking for a Saya if I find this fandub a success and continue with it.]
A childhood friend of Kokonotsu's that also has a major crush on him, as well Tō's sister. She's the much more-grounded of the two main female characters. She's a typical tsundere that quickly becomes jealous of Hotaru for becoming Kokonotsu's crush. While she can be sassy and passive-agressive (as well as possessing a piercing stare that could scare away a tiger), she ultimately is a nice girl-next-door type. I don't want much fancy with her voice and am instead focused on your sheer acting skills.

(becomes jealous after Kokonotsu talks about his crush on Hotaru; ramp up the sass; throw that shade guuurl) Of course! You want extra sugar? After all, I'm only here to serve you. Who am to judge if you like sweet things?
(looking away from Kokonotsu; pouty) Don't force yourself. You don't have to drink my coffee if you hate it...
(after knocking out some of her brother Tō's teeth; comically casual) Bye. I'm off to do some grocery shopping. Look after the café.
