DEATH A.M. [Sims 2 Machinima Series]
Project Overview
SYNOPSIS: Right before a job interview that was meant to turn a young recovering addict's life around, he tragically meets his demise and is instantly hired to work as a grim reaper instead.
PLOT: DEATH A.M. focuses on 26-year-old Jareth Knight's journey into "reaperhood". In this universe there is no hooded skeletal figure carrying a scythe - death comes for you in the form of regular undead humans who remained on Earth. Their mission is to help dying individuals move on with ease. They extract the soul moments before the death occurs so the soul does not have to experience the trauma of actually dying before traveling to the afterlife. It's like a public service thing! Jareth is a new grim reaper on the block and naturally very perplexed about the whole thing. As he learns the ins and outs of his permanent profession, he has the potential to grow more as a person in death than he ever did while alive. However, this would not be easy as his mind is continuously fixating on his past. The show will have several undead, as well as alive, characters' destinies intertwine as they face moral dilemmas revolving around death and/or appreciate the simple pleasures life has to offer.
GENRE: Dark Comedy / Drama / Romance
TRIGGER WARNING: This series will contain some intense themes, such as domestic abuse, death (evidently lol) and suicide. While I normally try my best to keep a healthy & tactful balance between comedy and drama in my projects, I still heed you to be cautious when applying.
REQUIREMENTS:
Have clear recordings without any background noise. You don't need to have a top quality microphone, just please try your best to minimize any disruptions. Don't have your TV on while you record, etc.
Meet deadlines and show dedication. If you are unable to send your lines on time please message me and discuss it with me - I will ALWAYS be understanding of your situation and give you an extension. Please simply be willing to communicate with me!
You must be at least 18 years old to apply.
Be comfortable with profanity. Most of my characters cuss a fair amount.
Do at least 2-3 takes per line. Improvise as much as you want! I want you to have fun with this and I'm always open to suggestions if you think you can make the dialogue sound more natural. Just make sure you also have takes of the lines as written originally.
Have a Discord account. There will be a server where I'll be sharing the scripts and providing important updates.
Be committed! This is probably the most important requirement, haha! Sims 2 is very tedious to work with nowadays and this is also just a fun hobby for me that comes second to my IRL responsibilities, so production will be SLOW! You will need to be okay with long time gaps in-between receiving each script. Please apply only if you're in it for the long run and you're able to be patient with me! <3
Additional notes:
- This series is loosely based on the 2003 TV show "Dead Like Me". The mythology is largely the same with some tweaks, but the story itself focuses on my own pre-existing OCs that have nothing to do with the live action show's cast, apart from maybe some similar character traits. Gotta give credit where credit is due! I also took some inspo from the anime "Death Parade".
- I'm not looking for any specific types of voices and any accent is more than welcome and appreciated! I'll be making my decisions entirely based on which performance I believe fits each respective character the most. If I don't end up selecting you, I assure you it is nothing personal!
- I'll be transparent and say that as of right now I have the first two episodes scripted, as well as some rough drafts of future scenes. I personally do not wish to have anybody record episodes in advance, though. Episode 2's script will be shared with you only after episode 1 is uploaded and so on.
- There won't be any explicit scenes. I don't feel comfortable making anyone record moaning, etc. However, there will be moments where a character has to scream in pain or violently cry. I know that's mostly a given with acting, but I also know not everyone is comfy with that so I thought I'd mention it!
- Most of the characters have LGBTQIA+ identities, but feel free to audition regardless of your orientation/gender. Just please be respectful and keep in mind that I do not wish to work with anyone who's bigoted, xoxo.

Before his death, Jareth was a recovering addict who lived a lonely life full of regrets and barely managed to make ends meet. He thinks he peaked in high school, but even those days weren't full of glee for him due to his upbringing that eventually led to his spiraling. Overall, his life was pretty miserable and he wasn't managing it well enough, so you can probably guess that his afterlife as a grim reaper would not be a walk in the park either.

Olivia is in charge of the group of grim reapers at the center of the series. She is the one who receives a list from a mysterious shadowy source of who is meant to die on a weekly basis and assigns each name to a reaper. Olivia takes her job pretty seriously and even though they respect her tremendously, she sometimes butts heads with her undead subordinates. Despite being one of the older reapers, not much is known about her life before she passed away or even how exactly she died, as she tends to avoid that topic and encourages her team to do the same in regards to their own deaths. She is somewhat of a local celebrity both among the undead and some mortals, because she recently became a published author...by accident.

Eric comes from one of the most (supposedly) famous old money families - the Howells. He often goes on and on about his once glamorous & privileged lifestyle....while deliberately leaving out the part where his family looked down on him and thought of him as a disgrace who only wasted their money. You can imagine his disappointment when he found out he's undead and could no longer rely on his trust fund. Despite not being rich anymore, he tries to make the best of his situation and enjoy his afterlife to the fullest. He tends to be kind of inappropriate when it comes to his work as a grim reaper by stealing/taking stuff from the dead, though.

At first glance, Gigi appears to be a standard graveling - an invisible monstrous creature born from a lost/mishandled soul, whose only purpose in this world is to cause accidental deaths. However, once they were given their human form by Grayson, it slowly becomes clear that they do not follow the same behavior of the others in their group. Gigi is very detached from her graveling nature and doesn't understand why. She is meant to be a mere shadow, a tool for death deprived of any actual human feelings or complex thoughts. And yet she is capable of experiencing a lot of different emotions? For the most part she goes along with what she's meant to do, but she will secretly keep trying to find out why she's different.

Stefan died while he was backpacking through Europe with a couple of friends, so he ended up moving from country to country for a while before making his way back home. Even though he's been a grim reaper for only 27 years, he carries himself as if he's done this for much longer and tends to pretend that he is second in command to Olivia...despite being under her management for only 1 year. Even though he often comes across as obnoxious & full of it, he has genuine compassion for the decedents he's assigned to and tries to accommodate everyone any way he can before escorting them to the great beyond.

There's something fascinating, yet disturbing about her...and a certain undead admirer is determined to figure out what that is.

He is especially close with his sister, Aidan, and is almost never seen without her. The same goes for his other sister, Lilian...minus the "close" part - the two constantly bicker.

As a fan of anything morbid, spooky and mystical, she sometimes offers them advice...even if it is unrelated to what is actually going on. May is pretty blunt with others, but she isn't cruel in any capacity. She is also a former model and "rival" of Phaedra.

Piper is the grim reaper who took Jareth's soul. His was the last one she needed to fill her quota, so subsequently Jareth became a reaper in her place as she went off into the great beyond. This was a bitter sweet development for Olivia, since she unapologetically admits that Piper was her favorite from the team. Her only actual present time appearance is in Episode 1, however, she will appear in several flashback scenes.

Zee is aware that "dying of old age" isn't really a medical cause of death; that often what claims the lives of the elderly is an accumulation of things. However, she was fed up of her previous co-workers, so she decided to start her own department based on the expression. Her and her new team of grim reapers work primarily in nursing homes and exclusively collect the souls of senior citizens. She is good friends with Olivia and the two hang out whenever they are not busy with their head reaper duties.

Him and Jareth shared a lot of the same struggles, but Roy never allowed for his problems to get out of hand the way Jareth's did.

Gabriel is just a graveling. That's all there is to him. He has absolutely no recollection of his past or when he turned. He just does what he's meant to do and is usually paired up with Georgie and Gigi when it comes to more elaborate accidental deaths. Gabriel is simply the shell of the person he never knew he was.
Note: Gabriel barely talks at the start of the show and when he does it's in very short and painfully monotonous sentences. He will most likely be developed later on and have longer lines.

Since the grim reapers will be collecting various souls on a daily basis, I will need at least 4 dedicated people who will be on standby to voice these short parts when needed. Extra roles also include characters such as teachers, retail workers, the loved ones of those who passed away, grim reapers from other departments, etc.
(Disappointed) "Aww man, I died? But I just got my paycheck!"
(Unveiling a lie) "Hey, wait a minute! Cindy doesn't have any siblings!"
(Curious) "So what happens now? Will I get reincarnated or something? Can I be a cat in the next life?"
