Calvin and Hobbes Comic Animation (One-off) ONE WEEK ONLY

Calvin and Hobbes Comic Animation (One-off) ONE WEEK ONLY

Project Overview

Hi there! I'm going to be animating this classic Sunday strip: (https://i.imgur.com/UUafOJK.jpg) from Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson for a Uni class project and need voices for both Calvin and Hobbes. The characters will have minimal animation, and will be placed onto a live-action background. This is a one-off quickie project. All interpretations welcome for Calvin, whatever your age or gender! Could be like Nancy Cartwright as Bart Simpson, could be like Jason Ritter as Dipper/Brendon Small from Home Movies, whatever you think fits. Deadline is November 4th.

Calvin is 6 years old, and incredibly intelligent and articulate for his age. He's often cynical about the world, but still maintains some innocence and naiveté, as well as earnest wonder. In this strip, Calvin isn't so much sermonizing to Hobbes (though he often does) as he is trying to make sense of the world. I think he's still processing the things he's saying here as he says them. Whatever interpretation you have is welcome. Any age, any gender, whatever you think Calvin's voice is. I know it's a difficult one to nail down. Attached lines are the full script. Please take a look at the comic (https://i.imgur.com/UUafOJK.jpg) to get a sense for Calvin's expressions.

  • Look, a dead bird! Isn't it beautiful? It's so delicate. (Sighs) Once it's too late, you appreciate what a miracle life is. You realize that nature is ruthless and our existince is very fragile, temporary, and precious.

  • But to go on with your daily affairs, you can't really think about that. Which is probably why everyone takes the world for granted and why we act so thoughtlessly. It's very confusing.

  • I suppose it will all make sense when we grow up.

Not a lot of lines, obviously. I think of Hobbes as having a fairly deep voice, and sounding laid-back. But whatever interpretation you have is welcome.

  • It must've hit the window.

  • No doubt.
