It may have been the music that attracted her to band class, but it was love that made her stay... even if she doesn’t have any musical talent whatsoever. But what high schooler Camilla lacks in ability, she makes up for in passion — especially when it comes to Victor, the handsome musician who’s caught her eye. Will love rule the day, even when your crush-of-choice is a real brass-hole?
Victor is what we call a “brass-hole“ (hence Brass & Sass), he is very sophisticated, traditional, talented, and passionate. He is the best horn player in the band with a rough backstory. The leading male.
[thankful] “Even though the plan fell flat, I really enjoyed playing in front of everyone. Thanks for letting me do that.”
[furious] “If it wasn’t for my playing, that plan wouldn’t have even worked! Do you think just because you pasted a few posters around the school, that you fixed everything?!”
[very flustered] “Wait, why are we in my car? She’s in my car. My personal space! This is way too up close and personal. She’s too… close...”
Beth is compassionate, protective, insecure, and snooty. She plays piano as her main instrument of choice, but joined the band to get closer to Victor, playing the flute. She is Camilla‘s main obstacle.
[passionate but held back] “ Yeah, Crestomere is pretty shabby. But what about me? Okay, not to say that I’m anything like those crazy Ashmont kids you keep talking about, but… You’ve heard me play at our recitals!”
[saddened] “And most importantly… he understands what it’s like… to feel like you’re drowning.”
[serious yet annoyed] “I know that! But by pulling me aside to tell me you’re into him… It feels a lot like you’re petting yourself against me.”
Rohan is loud and proud, popular, affectionate, and sporty. He doesn’t mind breaking the rules until introduced to Camilla. After that he joins the band and plays the triangle. He is Victor’s main obstacle.
[sweetly] “Do you have Mrs. Weber for Bio? You seem familiar. I am Rowan, by the way.”
[comfortingly] “I don’t know. I guess I just don’t fret too much over the small stuff. Like— things always seem to work themselves out in the end… So why should I care?”
[questioningly] “So… How are you able to jump into stuff? Like how you did with Band? How do you get so… Passionate about things?”
Mrs. Petracki, A.k.a. Mrs. P, is lighthearted, sweet, calm, and all around positive. She is the band’s director and also Victor’s aunt. She is one of the reasons Camilla didn’t quit the band right off the bat, she also introduces Camilla to the trumpet.
[hopefully] “Don’t be discouraged, dear. We all have to start somewhere. And besides! You still haven’t tried what I call, The King of Band.”
[promisingly] “Oh, Vicky. Looks like will have to fix that right? Here’s an idea, then! Find a replacement for Camilla! Just know that, for me it doesn’t matter how good they are!”
[motivational] “ It’s completely normal to lose motivation. Joining band with no prior knowledge is hard— more so in high school! Give yourself some credit where it’s due.”
Not much is known about Rose. He was friends with Victor before he transferred to Crestomere. She’s very mysterious.
[affectionately] “Victor, you really inspire me. You know that right? Someday I’m gonna get as good as you… so watch out!”
Safiya is quiet, shy, put together, and open minded. She is Camilla’s best friend and will do you almost anything for her, even join the band. She plays the alto sax. She is Camilla’s right hand man.
[sincerely] “That was pretty uncalled for. You sure you want to keep dealing with this guy? There are so many other options like...”
[guilty] “… I really don’t know if I can, Cam. I’m not saying it won’t be fun! I’m just always busy with this job...”
