Beyond the Gates Podcast (inspired by Twilight Zone, Black Mirror etc.) - Episode 1
Project Overview
My partner and I have written a radio-style anthology series of morbid morality tales with supernatural and sci-fi elements (in the vein of Twilight Zone, Inside No. 9, Tales of the Unexpected, Black Mirror etc.). Our aim is to be highbrow but entertaining. We so far have a collection of scripts, as well as accompanying artwork, music etc. We will aim to launch, promote and grow the podcast later in the year.

Thank you to all those who auditioned - apologies for the delayed update. We have potentially good fits for some of the roles; however, we haven’t yet found the right fit for all of the main roles. We’ve decided to extend the casting process for this episode, as it’s important to us to get it right.
Looking for an English male voice actor with a London-based accent. We're looking for natural, true to life acting as opposed to stylised.
Christopher is a somewhat gruff man in his early 60s (slight Ray Winstone vibes). He came from a tough working class background, and was a career criminal as a young man. He feels guilty about being an inadequate father but tries to make up for it with his granddaughter who he dearly loves.
Throughout the story, Christopher goes on an intense emotional journey which begins with a heartfelt goodbye on what he thinks is his deathbed. He is then awoken: forcefully resurrected to face trial for the crimes of his past, forced to confront his new reality and the notion that he might never be able to see his loved ones again.

I love you too, sweetie. More than you could ever know. More than all the flowers in the world.
[Terminally ill, near to death; speaking lovingly to his granddaughter]
Who the hell do you think you are?! You don’t know respect. You don’t know what it was like for people like me growing up. I didn’t have money, I didn’t have any opportunities. So what? I nicked some stuff.
[Passionately, angrily and vulnerably defending himself against judgmental prosecutor]
Death? What do you mean death?! What about my family? I want to see my family! This can’t be real… I can’t take this… help me.
[Reacting to being sentenced to death and knowing he won't see his family again]
An upper class British prosecutor (later Judge) who shows a complete disdain for Christoper. He is ideological, egotistical, and unsympathetic despite Christopher’s tough upbringing. He is snide and sarcastic. We're looking for natural, true to life acting as opposed to stylised.

And I’m sure you lay on your deathbed in regret of all you’d done wrong. Except one small detail you seem to omit: you didn’t confess your crime or return the money you stole. You gave it to your daughter, didn’t you?
Enough Mr Johnson. Any more interruptions and I might rule you in contempt of this court. You made your getaway, but you left the staff of that shop with sleepless nights, horrific trauma, and PTSD from which they may never have recovered. You then proceeded to fence the goods and spend the money with no thought given to the victims of your crime.
[Snide, judgmental, insincere]
British child. Daughter of Christopher. Speaks to her sick beloved grandfather. Selected actor will be able to provide the sound file, name they would like to be credited, and email address to receive payment via PayPal. We're looking for realistic delivery as opposed to stylised acting. You can read the opening scene to better understand that context: https://www.dropbox.com/s/25nc7f3pnpfeskk/OPENING%20SCENE.pdf?dl=0
I love you grandpa.
Are you going to heaven?Really?
(GIGGLES). I don’t want you to go, grandpa.
British man. Cellmate of Christoper who eventually becomes his partner. Selected actor will be able to provide the sound file, name they would like to be credited, and email address to receive payment via PayPal. We're looking for realistic delivery as opposed to stylised acting. You can read the opening scene to better understand that context:
Hiya mate, I’m Patrick. Welcome to your new home. I’m afraid it’s not quite The Ritz.
Hey, it’s alright. We’ll get through this together. I promise.
[Reassurance in response to a distraught Christopher]
Middle aged, lower middle class British accent. Daughter of Christoper. Speaks to him on his deathbed in hospital. We're looking for realistic, non-stylised acting. You can read the opening scene to better understand that context: https://www.dropbox.com/s/25nc7f3pnpfeskk/OPENING%20SCENE.pdf?dl=0
Annabelle, tell grandpa you love him. Go on.
[Speaking to daughter]
Dad! It’s okay. It’s who you are. I love you and I respect you, and I accept you for who you are.
[Giving Christoper reassurance in relation to sexuality]
Dad? Dad?! We need help here!
[Responding to Christopher becoming unresponsive]
British female. Has to give main character news both good and tragic. Looking for realistic, not stylised, acting.

Christopher Johnson, you have been reanimated using molecular reconstruction technology.
[Stern, formal]
No, no. Christopher. Christopher, it’s okay, listen, it’s not what you think… you’re safe now. Henry Tyler, he was the man who prosecuted your original Phoenix trial and conducted the review
I’m sorry but you can’t. I’m afraid she’s long passed.
[Gives bad news; is sympathetic]
