Autumntross: A Thesis Film

Autumntross: A Thesis Film

Project Overview

I am helping my friend (@pidginplaces on Instagram) make their seven minute long student thesis short-film, Autumntross, and we're looking for voice actors! The film is a 1960's inspired tribute to the American civil rights movement with a rabbit-twist. When passionate Ivory and cool-headed Codi lead a lop-eared worker's strike, Ivory's old friend Harley the up-eared rabbit gets caught in the middle of it. Projected date of completion is May 2025.

Paid: Flat Rate 20 USD
Role assigned to: BmoonVA

Ivory is a lop-eared rabbit who's mission is to pave the way for equality at the abusive mill she works at. How? By using her music to uplift her fellow lop-ears and take a stand! Her passion and bravery is contagious, even if it can land her in trouble sometimes. Despite this, she'll always stand up for what's right and do so with a smile.

NOTE: Lop-eared rabbits were heavily inspired by the black community. For the sake of proper representation, it is preferred Ivory's voice actor be black. PLEASE NOTE THIS IN YOUR APPLICATION'S DESCRIPTION WHERE APPLICABLE. Applications that do NOT comply with this guideline are less likely to be considered. However, if this guideline does not apply to you, we encourage you to look at Harley's role instead, as her guidelines are looser.

Ivory's register is in the alto or tenor vocal range and requires good breath support. Despite her lower register, however, her voice is not necessarily deep. You can reference Angela Davis for her speaking lines through the YouTube link below:

Ivory Vocal Range: C3 - C4 (Tenor) / C4 - C5 (Alto)

Ivory also performs the majority of folk-style singing inspired by black spirituals in the short-film. You can reference Norma Tanega as a singing example through the YouTube link below:

There will also be a short flashback segment with child Ivory, so please be prepared to potentially do a child impersonation.

Songs to potentially reference when auditioning: We Shall Overcome - This Little Light of Mine - Hound Dog

Due to the short film being more down-to-earth, a more natural, conversational style of dialogue would be preferred over the usual over-exaggerated cartoony style.

MUST BE AT LEAST 18 YEARS OLD TO APPLY

Language:
  • english

  • (Stated proudly/matter of factly, and somewhat fast) "Oh, you know, I'm currently leading a worker's rebellion against an oppressive mill's labor practices with my partner Codi, here!"

  • (Raising voice to speak past a crowd) "Sir, with all due respect... We came here to make our voices heard. We don't plan on going home just yet."

  • [please sing a verse or two from a song of your choice]

Paid: Flat Rate 20 USD

Harley is an up-eared rabbit who happens upon her childhood friend leading a worker's strike. She's soft-spoken and kind, but her status and naivete can blind her from the truth. However, her moral compass and loyalty will always steer her back onto the right path.

Harley's vocal register is soft and light. Her delicate demeanor, however, can be lost when frustrated. Her singing voice takes on the same soft-spoken demeanor as her speech. Reference Dusty Springfield and Joan Baez in the YouTube links below as an example:

Harley Vocal Range: C4 - D5 (Mezzo-Soprano/Soprano)

Not only is Codi the partner of Ivory, they're also her rock. Codi's chill demeanor keeps the lop-eared worker's strike steady, but they also aren't afraid to speak their mind or cause a little chaos when needed.

NOTE: Lop-eared rabbits were heavily inspired by the black community. The character Codi also identifies as nonbinary. For the sake of proper representation, it is preferred Codi's voice actor be black and nonbinary.

Codi sings in harmony with their partner Ivory, and their vocal range would be high tenor/low alto. Reference Harry Belafonte in the YouTube link below as an example:

Codi Vocal Range: B3 - G4 (Tenor)

You may reference Simon and Garfunkel “You Can Tell the World“ and other spirituals for your potential song audition choice.

Their speaking lines are in the lower range with an overall coolness and chill vibe to them.

  • "It ain't about the pay, it's about the unfairness."

  • (With very noticeable snark) "Oh I'm sure you haven't, but that's just it ain't it? Not everyone gets it as easy as an uppie like you."

  • [please sing a verse or two from a song of your choice]
