Audiobook Narration For A Book

Project Overview

Chapter One - The Awakening:
I was lying in the sterile, white room of the Boone Hospital, caught in dusk between consciousness and a drug-induced murk. The machine was beeping rhythmically, the beeps being continuous in their melody. It was 19th November 2021, while I was in the fog of recovery from a stroke that had cruelly attacked mainly the right side of my brain. Before this, my life was as a 5 th - standard math teacher. It was a one-hour drive to the South Harrison High School. I used to really enjoy it as it was a therapeutic drive that prepared me to train young minds to develop their analytical skills. After a long day at school, I would listen to my favorite music and unwind from my day. When I was lying half asleep. The first sign that something was erroneous came from my sensation and not from a doctor’s explanation. My left arm draped over my stomach and felt numb, as though it belonged to someone else. Panic fluttered in my chest, as I tried to reconcile the feeling with any understanding or a guess. This was my introduction to left-side neglect, a cruel trick played by my brain due to the damage on its right side. At that moment I realized the physical reality of my condition as it crashed into me swiftly. A cruel trick caused by the stroke, the physical therapists said that I needed to be careful around hot items because I had no feeling on my left side. To demonstrate this, they had me close my eyes and raise my hand when I felt them touch my left leg, when the test was over, they said that I only felt them touch my leg 40% of the time. I grew up on a small farm in northern Missouri and therefore had familiarity with living under stringent conditions that shaped me into a resilient being. Being the oldest of three siblings, I always had this huge bar of responsibility over my shoulders. My upbringing was such that my day constituted of hard labor, with occasional escapades to the basketball court and running along tracks. But all of this could not prepare me for the condition I was in on the hospital bed.
