Animated YouTube Series - Single Character Recast
Project Overview
Hello! This is a casting call for the animated series called "OpalYoutube," a slice of life-comedy series about the daily life and adventures of two girls and a guy rooming together in an apartment. While this project doesn't qualify as NSFW, there will be cursing and suggestive themes at times. I would hope this series will be more than just a pilot, so it would be greatly appreciated that if you are casted, you stick around. Each episode will be semi-animated, sacrificing real frame by frame animation for a more comic-dub style to allow for longer plots, cheaper animation, and more continuous uploads. Each episode will be split up into 4 skits, all ranging from a 0.5 to 1.5 pages long each. This will be a paid project, and you will be payed after you have done your part, not until after the project is fully finished.
More specifically, this is just a call to recast the character of Opal, due to a change in direction I wanted for the character. The voice actor chosen here will start working after the pilot episode.
While for this recast you won't be participating in the pilot episode, you will be voice acting in the subsequent episodes.
This pilot episode will be finished around the time when this audition comes to an end.
All roles are English speaking roles.
Main roles will be paid a baseline of $50. Feel free to negotiate if you feel as though this is too little. All payments will be made through Zelle, Venmo, or Paypal. The payments will happen when all your voice lines are in, not when project is finished.
Brief Character descriptions:
Opal:
24 year old girl
She is very bold and extroverted, needing to be around people a lot of the time
She can be selfish, whiny, egocentric, lazy, greedy, competitive, vindictive, lustful, and easily driven to anger when insulted or hurt
Despite all these flaws, she is extremely caring towards what and who she cares about; she also is enjoyable to be around and has a keen sense of fun; she is often seen being goofy, happy-go-lucky, and flirtatious (she is very much a glass half full type of girl)
Opal does not and can not conceal her emotions, what’s going on on the outside is usually what’s going on on the inside
Opal is NOT stupid, Opal is actually fairly intelligent and capable, but she still makes dumb decisions based on her impulses
While she does go after a lot of guys, she always goes after them from a place of power and self confidence, not out of an attempt for attention
Opal is unapologetically herself, and is very confident in herself as well
Opal is hardly embarrassed about anything, being the type to openly talk about sexual encounters, but she can be embarrassed about liking “nerd things”
-
Opal enjoys life, despite everything it throws at her
Though at times she can get really sad and vulnerable, but will always reach out for help
-
When engaged in something, she can be really motivated with what she’s doing
At the same time, when something is boring, she can be incredibly unmotivated
Granite:
20 year old guy
He is selfish and finds pleasure in the annoyance of other people
Granite can be extremely selfish, narcissistic, egocentric, lazy, greedy, and vindictive
Granite dislikes Opal, and will go out of his way to bother and annoy her
While he is mostly playful when getting on the nerves of others, there are times where it can get a lot more serious, being very insulting and insensitive
Granite likes over-dramatics, and gets excited when he gets an evil idea
-
Granite refuses to do anything he deems “a hassle,” even if it benefits him (I.E. watching TV, doesn’t like the show, remote is out of reach, refuses to get up to get the remote)
Unless the hassle includes messing with someone
Granite will say ANYTHING on his mind, and doesn’t care about someone else’s feelings
Unlike Opal, Granite thinks before he acts, carefully comparing and contrasting the consequences and benefits of his actions, though he can sometimes say “whatever” and do whatever he want
It is harder for Granite to enjoy life than it is for someone like Opal, he has a negative view on life
Granite refuses to admit his own mistakes
He can do the right thing at times, and really does like and respect Leah (Opal not so much)
Leah:
24 year old girl
She is sweet, kind, and genuinely cares for people
Leah is the voice of reason, and often the straight man
Leah will get embarrassed when talking about sexual or private stuff, unlike Opal who doesn’t care
Leah is easily flustered
Leah cleans up around the apartment, remembers dates, wakes Opal up for work, does the bills, and makes most of the money, she is easily the most responsible out of the three
Leah is smart, organized, and pretty much has her life together
-
Leah will sometimes get sick of Opal and Granite’s “shenanigans,” and will get annoyed/irritated with them
When it seems fun, she might cooperate
Leah can get angry when pushed too far, and might have an outburst, but will most likely apologize for it afterwards
-
Leah is extremely empathetic and will almost always feel for other people
Sometimes too empathetic
-
Leah is the type to get really invested into something quickly if it interests her
These can become quick obsessions
Leah is not good at dating, nor is she good at talking to guys she doesn’t know
These are just brief character descriptions. Full character sheets will be available when hired. Additional information will be provided if asked.
Expectations
Expectations:
- Meetings will be online only, no in person
- Mic quality should be impeccable. No auditions with background noise, audio peaking, reverb, or poor quality in general.
- No sound effects or music in the background, I appreciate the creativity but it distracts from the voice acting
- There will be three lines to audition with
- Each line can have up to three tries
- Most importantly, while talent is important, character is even more important. Racism, homophobia, sexism, antisemitism or anything of the sort is unacceptable. I want a kind environment for everyone involved.
Last remarks
I look forward to working with you in the future! The current assumption is that after the pilot episode, each episode should take 5 months to complete. This is a passion project of mine so your participation means the world.

[Waiting at the front desk to a barren store, extremely bored] "Ugh, my brain… stupid boss won’t even allow me to use my phone..." (The phone rings, she picks it up, and answers in a fake cheery attitude) "Hello, this is ‘Clever Closet,’ the smartest clothing store in town, Opal speaking, how may I help you?" [She then thinks to herself in either rage or disgust.] "I hate this slogan so freaking much."
[Recounting a story about a bad mistake she made while drinking]. "Anyway, we got to talking, and he was telling me all about his problems and stuff, and I mean, we got a bit drunk..." [apologizing to her best friend] "I'm really sorry I missed the movie night we had planned..."
[Extremely happy] "Oh my God!! I love it! It's so cute, and fluffy, and cute! I just want to hug the little guy!"
