About Mike Scrase

My first experience with doing voice work was as a very young child, on a preschooler’s program called Bump the Elephant. My dad was working as a foley artist for CMBT Animation at the time, and he had me come in to record a gulp sound for the Jay bird featured in the Christmas episode, seen gobbling a mince pie.

I feel very lucky that my dad allowed me to have a glimpse into the industry at a young age, because it cemented the idea that it was one a person could aspire to work in.

I went on to get an Upper Second Class degree in Film Production, with honours, and I’ve had several work placements with Aardman Animations where I gained experience in model making, claymation, editing in Avid Studio Pro, and had the opportunity to do some sound syncing on Creature Comforts USA.

Since then I’ve worked with Guksack, a UK sketch comedy group, appearing in sketches for Channel 4, Hat Trick Productions and Channel 4’s Mashed. I’ve acted in for feature film too: specifically 104 Films’ Dawn of the Darkfox.

I have stage experience having spoken in for a live taping of science podcast Story Collider, and performed stand up comedy for several years. I also write and illustrate my own webcomic.

I’ve lived in Bristol in the UK for most of my life, and so I can speak with a British accent and a North American one. I would also be ideal for roles that require an authentic pirate accent, as the accent stereotypically associated with pirates is actually just an exaggeration of the regional accent common to Bristolians and others in the South West (aka the West Country), and being native to Bristol I can take on the accent comfortably.
