I'm Malik Watson. I'm an aspiring singer and voice actor living in Georgia. I knew about about voice acting since I was 12, because I would look up cartoons and anime on Wikipedia. I would go through pages and see who voiced my favorite characters. At first, I thought it was an awesome job but not one I would be able to do. I knew a family friend who was very talented and could do multiple voices. They talked about the voice over industry which inspired myself. Also, I would watch fan dubs on YouTube specifically Cristina Vee's channel. When I watched those videos, I realized voice acting was accessible for anyone. It wasn't until I was 17 while attending the Georgia Thespian Conference that I decided to pursue it .
Afterward, I searched for any material on voice acting and found a video by Eric Vale (Voice of Trunk from DBZ) on "How to Become a Voice Actor". From that video, I realized I had the skills to be a voice actor as long as I was an actor. All of the time I spent in improv and performing plays during middle and high school, I had what it took so I decided to improve those skills. I went to college for Digital Communications, so I could learn how to communicate effectively. Also, I joined chorale and musical theater to improve my range.
The only other thing I needed was networking. I didn't know anyone else besides family who could point me to the right directions. Eventually, I found some connections at MomoCon. It was my second year but first year volunteering there. I worked with another aspiring voice actor. They told me their story and showed their online presence in voice acting. I was amazed by this information and it helped get me started.
I'm new, so I want to try everything I can around here. I'll also post projects for narration, fandubs, and podcasts.
