About James Bates

Hello there! I'm James, aka CTAVI. My catch phrases of "I need to know" and "I am not a clever man" have led me towards gaining a very particular set of skills, and by "particular" I do in fact mean "needlessly specific". I have a solid range of knowledge in the fields of theoretical physics, computer programming in several languages, and 3d modelling. However, my main passion is for creating things for people to enjoy (whilst also potentially shoving my deeply neurodivergent interest in physics down their throats in the process). I have also spent the last decade or so working on a fantasy/sci-fi game series with strong cosmic horror tones as a passion project, in which time I have done extensive worldbuilding and laid out as many mechanics and systems as I can. I have put a lot of effort into making sure that these mechanics all work well with each other - avoiding making anything particularly unbalanced. I am planning to voice act multiple characters in this series, and so I have spent my time trying to hone my own skills in this field as well. Any opportunity to do this, I'll gladly take!

No charge! I want to do this for fun, and so if my skills both happen to line up with the ones that you need and your project seems like something I'd enjoy working on, then that's all I need

What James Bates is looking for

Anything related to VA work would be ideal, as I want to prepare myself for the massive undertaking that is the Divine Origins project (my game series). This series is planned to span many different worlds and genres, with hundreds of characters, and I'm going to need to voice a lot of them. Therefore, as this is my passion project, anything that helps me get there is my passion project too. I'm also happy to consult for any questions such as "is there any way to achieve this whilst abiding by the laws of physics", or "how can we make this more realistic", as such constraints can be extremely interesting to work with. Of note, I created my own fictional field of science for my project, designed to integrate as well as it could with existing real world physics so as to not disrupt it, and remaining as realistic as it possibly could. Finally, 3D modelling work is also something I'd be happy to help out with where I can, in particular anything surrounding procedurally generated materials - my favourite element of 3D design!
