About Khalmir

Originally from upstate New York, I now live in East Tennessee, USA. I ride motorcycle, garden, cook, and read; and I'm a NetFlix and News junkie. I'm a retired expert in plastics materials, processing, design, and recycling. Internet pioneer since 1991. I have a warped, dark and dry sense of humor.

Audio Engineering for Voice Actors

Instructed by Tony Wijs, Laneth Sffarlenn

This class takes you into the world of sound waves and spectra analysis to give voice actors an introduction to what goes on in a studio booth, and in post-production. It covers the basics of Hi/Lo cuts, EQ, and compression, and explains how to get desired effects from recordings. It covers booth equipment like sound interfaces, microphones and earphones with a focus on evaluating quality. The end product of the class was learning to build a plug-in chain for professional sound output. The class explored Reaper Digital Audio Workstation, but the concepts apply to any quality DAW. Tony and Neth skillfully wade you into this world which can become infinitely deep very quickly. The class was very much driven by student questions and gave me better understanding of what I'm producing when recording an audio.

Voice Acting 201

Instructed by Deb Munro

This class was a leap beyond VA 101. It took general concepts and added much more challenge and coaching focused on more performance in rendering character lines. Deb brings a ton of industry experience and high energy to her presentation, and gives insider tips and real-life training on how your delivery would sound to an expert producer. She teaches how to evaluate the emotional energy required of the character. We learned to make even a short submission line have a "journey," and layers adding texture. We also covered what expect as a Voice Acting career progressed; what to expect from producers or audio technicians, in a recording studio - and how to respond as a professional. The 12 week format seemed to give more time for the concepts to really be absorbed and fully explored for each student. Very worthwhile class.

Voice Acting 101

Instructed by John Wang, Jamil Burger

This class introduced us to basics of voice. We learned how your voice works, voice exercises, enunciation, articulation, inflection, breathing and projecting. We practiced with tongue twisters and delivering lines with different direction. We learned about the importance of dedication to a project and touched on how the industry works. My impression of the class was it was informative and fun.

What Khalmir is looking for

ATTN: I am in college this semester and unable to accept roles until Dec. 2024. I'm looking for minor roles and even one-liners or extras parts to gain experience with the process. I'm a retired senior, so I can be available for long-term projects without conflicts. My plan is to take full advantage of the training and peer group available here. I'm hoping to find steady work in voice acting or narration.
