My voice sounds familiar to many people. Not so much in the way of, 'where have I heard your voice before?' but more like, 'your voice makes me feel calm and comfortable in a familiar way.'
I spent the first half of my life acting in theater in both dramatic and musical performance. Through this method of study and practical application, I learned what it means to engage with an audience by inviting them to be a silent partner in the conversation happening on stage. This is how I approach my work in voiceover today. My voice is not only a vessel that assists in moving the story forward, but my voice is also a guide that takes the listener by the ears and invites them to be a part of the story.
My voice actor-Hero is Robin Williams, as he was my first exposure to character acting in Mrs. Doubtfire. After that, I was introduced to Carol Burnett and Eddie Murphy, both of whom played a substantial role in shaping my sense of humor as an actor. I grew up with under the influence of Cree Summer, Cheryl Chase, Christine Cavanaugh and E.G. Daily, when these powerhouse women taught me that if I trained my skillset and kept my imagination open, I could be anything...even a little toddler boy in a diaper.
When I create a character, whether it's for a commercial narration role or animation, I ground myself in who I am so that I can perform something or someone I know. This allows me to center who I am as a voice actor and deliver performances that are unique to my own voice, rather than a replica of an existing character. But on that note, I am one heck of a mimic!
I am looking for commercial, promo, audio drama and animation projects. I am also looking to expand my creative network by nurturing relationships with actors, casting directors, producers and animators.
