Port Town of Horizon is an experimental video series that aims to blend ambient soundscapes with subtle narratives. Set in the fantasy world of Artoria, each video aims to capture the atmosphere of everyday life in the Port Town of Horizon. A tiered city atop a hill that overlooks the sparkling waters of the Levin Sea, Horizon is a booming hub for trade, art, and adventure. As we find ourselves transported to the cozy corners of the city, we come across its vibrant inhabitants. From soldiers to witches to monster hunters and savvy young shopkeepers, each individual has a story to tell and a role to play.
The idea for this project was inspired by the numerous ambient soundscapes on YouTube that provide many of us with the soundtrack to our studies, work, or creative pursuits. Using a modified version of the Pomodoro productivity timer, this project seeks to create ambient soundscapes that provide background noise to assist with focus. At regular intervals, listeners will be encouraged to take a break. During the break phase of each soundscape, short conversations between characters will take place, giving life to the world within the video. While audible, these conversations will be fairly subtle. Listeners can choose to eavesdrop or simply continue working or studying as life in the city bustles around them.
The characters and setting of Port Town of Horizon are original creations and will continue to be developed as the narratives progress.
The first video in the series will be set in Hildegard's Cafe. An art nouveau coffee house nestled above the Horizon Harbor. Lead Barista Lily welcomes an eclectic mix of locals on a bright Wednesday morning.
When submitting your auditions, please also provide your Discord handle. For your audition reads, I would greatly appreciate if you try 2-3 reads for each line. Feel free to experiment with the cadence and emotive direction of the lines.
I currently have a miniscule budget so I can only pay a token sum for the moment. However, I have plans in place to secure further funding for this project and will pass on payment for additional work/lines done in the future.
