Description / Characteristics of this Role:

Bucky Barnes is Steve Rogers’ childhood best friend and a skilled soldier in the U.S. Army. Unlike Steve, Bucky was always strong, confident, and popular before the war. However, beneath his charm and cocky exterior, he deeply cares for Steve and sees himself as his protector. After Steve’s transformation into Captain America, their dynamic shifts—Bucky now follows Steve’s lead, but their bond remains unbreakable. He is a loyal and capable fighter, but war takes its toll on him, forcing him to face the brutality of combat and the reality of loss.

Personality:

Bucky is charismatic, loyal, and protective of those he cares about. He has a natural leadership quality and confidence that makes him well-respected among his fellow soldiers. While he can be sarcastic and playful, especially with Steve, he’s also fiercely determined in battle. He doesn’t hesitate to put himself in harm’s way for others and has a deep sense of duty. However, as the war drags on, he starts to feel the weight of his experiences, making him more hardened and weary.

Key Relationships:

  • Steve Rogers (Captain America) – Bucky’s closest friend since childhood. Their relationship is built on mutual respect, brotherhood, and a lifetime of shared experiences. Bucky once protected Steve, but after Steve becomes Captain America, their roles shift.

  • The Howling Commandos – Bucky fights alongside these elite soldiers, forming strong camaraderie with the unit.

  • Peggy Carter – While not as close as Steve and Peggy, Bucky respects her skills and sharp wit, often teasing Steve about his interest in her.

  • HYDRA & Red Skull – Bucky despises HYDRA and the Nazi regime, seeing them as the ultimate threat to freedom and everything he fights for.

Character Arc:

Bucky starts as a confident and battle-ready soldier, but as he fights alongside Captain America, he begins to understand the weight of being a hero. He experiences loss, hardship, and the brutality of war firsthand. His journey is one of loyalty, sacrifice, and eventually, tragedy. By the film’s end, he has proven himself as one of the most skilled and dedicated soldiers on the battlefield, but his fate remains uncertain as war consumes him.

Voice Description:

Bucky’s voice should carry both charm and strength. He speaks with confidence, often playful and teasing when talking to Steve, but serious and authoritative when giving orders in battle. His voice can also carry a hint of weariness, reflecting the hardships of war.

  • Tone & Delivery: Warm, confident, and occasionally sarcastic. In intense moments, his tone becomes sharp and commanding.

  • Speech Pattern: Casual and natural, with a soldier’s directness. He speaks with ease but can switch to a serious tone when necessary.

  • Emotional Range: From lighthearted banter to intense battle cries, Bucky’s voice needs to express camaraderie, concern for Steve, and the harsh realities of war.

  • Accent: Brooklyn accent, though not overly thick. It should reflect his New York upbringing but remain clear and natural.

Accent:

  • Bucky has a Brooklyn accent, similar to Steve’s but a bit rougher and more casual.
  • His speech is less formal, with contractions and a slightly sarcastic tone.
  • Occasionally drops “g” sounds in words (e.g., “We ain’t losin’ this fight.” instead of “We aren’t losing this fight.”).
  • More laid-back and charismatic in contrast to Steve’s serious tone but gets intense in emotional or combat situations.

extra lines:
  • “I’ve been fighting my whole life. What’s one more war?”
  • “If we go in, we go in together. No one’s gettin’ left behind.”
