Sigmar Varddsson is an Innkeeper in the fantasy world of ‘Tamriel’, specifically in the country of ‘Skyrim’, a cold land based on mountainous Scandinavian countries such as Norway and Iceland. His age is left ambiguous but it is implied he is between 50-70 years old. 30 years prior to interaction with the player, he fought in what is now known as ‘The Great War’; a bitter conflict between the Imperial Empire and The Elven Aldmeri Dominion otherwise known as the ‘Thalmor’. He is a patriot of Skyrim and due to the war he fought in, he harbors xenophobic views upon non-humans, e.g Elves, Argonians (Lizard People), Orcs and Khajitt (Cat People). A real world comparison would be a war veteran who fought in Vietnam and harbors anti eastern views due to the conflict. Despite his xenophobia, he is sweet and somewhat feisty and is rather exhausted by the humorous and ridiculous situations both he and the player character are put in. The player has the option later in the quests to change his views on xenophobia if they so wish, so while he is stubborn he is open to change.
