Instead of pursuing his musical dreams, Terry dropped out of school to raise Maya alone, as her mother had no interest in being a parent and left soon after Maya was born to chase her own aspirations. At 22, he scraped together enough money to open Terry's Dive, a small bar on a quiet street in Las Vegas, where he spent most of his days working to provide for Maya and carve out a life for the two of them.
