Minor role for a Soviet government official in his mid-40s, anthropomorphized as a Russian elk. He's one of the few men invited to a top secret meeting about a second Sputnik mission, which involves the first person to ever be sent to space. He has doubts and reservations about how something like this could work, but like most others around him, his superiors in government have the final say that'll seal the fate of the test subject.
