The Ottoman Officer e is a shell of a man – marked by years of war, in chronic pain from his injuries, and separated from his wife and child.
The scene is split into two, highlighting the duality of his boisterous ‘officer’ persona, and his internal doubts. In his tent, he writes a sad and remorseful letter to his wife. When addressing his men, he gives a rousing speech about destiny and God, much in the way of the traditional World of Kaiserreich monologue.

(Remorseful, writing letter to wife) Cecigim, my beloved, my flower. That day in Cairo, as I stared down the barrel of a Syndicalist rifle, my last thought was with you and our unborn child. How cruel, I thought then, that I would never live to see her grow up in the world of peace we have sacrificed so much for.
(Boisterous speech to cheering soldiers) Brothers! I have seen the face of death! I have felt the touch of the assassin’s blade. I have witnessed that unseen hand behind the curtain, the scarlet devil that works endlessly to destroy our homeland. I have looked this devil in the eye. He whispers to you all. I know this is true. The devil says imperialism is a vestige of a bygone era. He preaches that men must be equal. But the Devil tells lies, brothers. Men are not made equal. Men are chosen. Men are made to serve under God and Empire. These so-called freedom fighters have fought us for five centuries, yet we still survive. Why is that, I ask of you?
(Boisterous speech to cheering soldiers) Once more unto the breach. VICTORY OR DEATH! Zafer ya da ölüm! Zafer ya da ölüm!
