Doctor Love
Zephyr Berry for HAZEL (Female, 25-35, any ethnicity)
Hazel is a 28-year-old patient of a 1950s asylum. She is kind and thoughtful, but depressed, anxious, and sometimes aggressive. She was widowed during WWII, and has no family left, her only friend being the doctor who's quickly becoming fascinated with her.
An accent is not necessary to play this character, but a subtle transatlantic accent or Pennsylvanian accent is an asset. Feel free to give up to 3 takes of each line, to demonstrate different voices/interpretations/accents.
Hazel is an autistic character. A diagnosis is not necessary to audition for Hazel, and there will be a neurodivergent creative team and resources to support the actor in portraying this character.
Please remember to start your audition with a slate! Details in the project overview.

(quietly, bluntly) "Nobody calls me Mrs. Finley, anymore."
"Thank you. For caring. It's been a long time since someone really listened to me."
"No, you can't interrupt! Why is that patient more important than me?"
