Stanley "Stan" Pines (born June 15, 15 minutes after his twin brother, Ford Pines, or June 16) is also known as Grunkle Stan and previously went by the alias Stanford Pines. He is the great uncle and summer guardian of Dipper and Mabel Pines, as well as the paternal uncle of Mr. Pines. As the deuteragonist of the series, Stan has a colorful past filled with crime and notoriety. He now resides in the secluded town of Gravity Falls, Oregon, where he runs the Mystery Shack—a dubious tourist trap that capitalizes on local myths and the naivety of tourists to fund his ventures.
