Although he presents a tough, prickly exterior, he is somewhat of a coward at heart and would back down in the face of a physical confrontation.

(Demanding to know the identity of one of the inspectors) “Who’s this guy with you? Where’s his clearance?”
(Protesting when the inspector tries to suggest that some cargo might contain hazardous materials) “There’s nothing hazardous inside these crates.”
