Batman: Year One - A Fanmade Audio Drama
Henry Schultz for Bruce Wayne/Batman
After losing his parents at the age of 8 years old, Bruce Wayne spent 10 years traveling the world in search of skills he could use to protect Gotham. Now, he has returned.
BRUCE - Gotham. From up here, all you can see is the towering monuments of men who have long since passed...men who were all eaten up by the very city they chose to forge their legacy in. And those legacies cast long shadows. Shadows that have stretched out and blanketed most of the city by now. From up here, it almost looks like an achievement…like the city is actually a civilized metropolis…but I know better.
BRUCE - I think my father told me that Grandfather Alan used to use this to call the servants… (chuckle) that was during Alfred's father's time as the family butler. It's definitely the kind of thing that would be demeaning in this modern age. (sighs) Still though…if I did ring the bell…Alfred would come… (grunts) he would come in a hurry and get to work on getting me patched up before it’s too late.
BATMAN - I’ve come to bring you all a message. (pause) Ladies…gentlemen…you’ve eaten well… You’ve eaten Gotham’s wealth…it’s spirit…but your feast in nearly over. From this moment on, none of you are safe.
