Line 1: (EVEN-TEMPERED] Well, it ain't Laredo.
Line 2: Hold your fire, men! Hold your fire! He's unarmed!
Line 3: [BELLOWING] QUIET! [THE OTHERS GO SILENT; HE BRINGS HIS VOICE DOWN, BUT CONTINUES SPEAKING WITH AUTHORITY] Gol-darnit, just quit flappin' them gums o' yours, Dan Counterman! I'm leadin' this posse, an' I'm conductin' this interview, an' all you're doin' is stirrin' Mr. Heinz up!
PORFIRIO ALVAREZ, Posse Member (Spanish accent)
Line 1: No quiero oír más!
Line 2: Buenos dias, Señor Sheriff. I have some coffee for you.
Line 3: Si. I'm sorry, Señor -- está muerto. He died in the night, I think.
DAN COUNTERMAN, Posse Member
Line 1: Well, this whole thing turned out to be a waste of time, didn't it, Sam?
Line 2: Yeah, well, I been thinkin' – what do we want to do with Heinz's body? We didn't pack no shovels, so we can't dig him a grave.
Line 3: But how can I believe in a thing if I ain't seen it?
NICK TRENTINO, Posse Member
Line 1: [CHEERFULLY] What's got you so riled up, Dan?
Line 2: He's a decent enough fella—
Line 3: Poor critter's in bad shape, shakin' like a leaf. What do you think it is?
JOHN HEINZ, Gang Member
Line 1: [WEAK, FRIGHTENED] Hello? Hello, help me!
Line 2: Yes, sir. First was Springer – Douglas is his front name. He insisted on bein' called "Major" on accounta' he'd been a' officer in the army. He was leader of the gang.
Line 3: Well, after that, I reckon I musta' convinced myself that I'd been asleep, an' dreamin'. I didn't tell the others about what I seen – or thought I'd seen. [BEAT] An' things were pretty normal the next day, an' the Majorsaid we might stay one more night, an' leave the next mornin'. I didn't pertickerly like that idear, but I didn't wanta say nothin' at that moment.
