Frontier Stories from Starfield ~ Season 1
Val Cheah for Jason Styra - S1E1 "The Last Flight of the Dauntless"
Jason is 12 to 13 years old, innocent, inquisitive. Jason is proud of the work his father does, not quite understand the cost, consequence or danger that exists out there. As proud as he is, he misses him deeply when he's gone.
Sure, Miss Rose I’m ready. I did my project on my Daddy, Captain Jason Styra! He’s been a pilot since before I was born, flying back and forth on different missions. Sometimes he maps stars or explores scary planets and other times he’s just helping new colonies like this one get all set up! My Mom helped me make this model, it’s the Dauntless, Daddy’s ship and it’s gone all over. NO! Don’t touch that, Billy! You’ll break it! Thanks Miss Rose. Shut up Billy. In this box is something Daddy brought from his last trip. He found it deep, deep underground and it was the only one of its kind. See if you pet this rock right here…it sings and changes color! Isn’t that neat? Mommy says it doesn’t really sing, but that’s not what Daddy said. My Dad is one of the last captains exploring space for Constellation. When he’s gone, Mommy and I get lonely, but she said what he’s doing is real important and that people like him are called away. I asked her who called, and she said, “the stars.” I didn’t know what that meant, but she laughed, and she said since the beginning we were called from the sea to the land and from that land to other lands. Then to the moon and to Mars and finally out to the stars. She said some voices are louder than her “I love you” or my “please stay” and when they speak you have to go. I asked her, “what voices?” and she just kissed me on the forehead…yuck and said, “I told you. The stars.” When I grow up I want the stars to call me too so I can go out with Daddy and fly the Dauntless! My name is Michael Styra and this is my Tell.
